Chapter 41 : The End of Battle
Bishop Ornoa’s large body crumbled to the floor.
The particles of odo’s light were leaking from his entire body, and dispersed in his surroundings.
Part of those particles of light entered my body.
That was the undeniable proof that bishop Ornoa had already died.
「W-We did it…」
I muttered weakly as if to confirm the situation myself.
Edda and I bravely challenged those two formidable enemies seeing that my weapon’s ability couldseal 《Beloved Guide; Tahlia》, and finally seized the victory with Gamdon’s last attack.
But, I knew very well that we’ve yet to win the war.
Speaking of 【Lv:42】, that was the standard level of magus assistant in the army.
It was an absolutely powerful opponent.
「Bishop-sama… has been killed? A mere adventurer mob… shouldn’t be able to beat him, right?」
「O, OO, Bishop-sama…. Ouroboros-sama, Mercyyyyy….」
As expected, even the enchanted weapon users of grey cult who didn’t lose their fighting spirit when I killed their healer-who also act as their command and key player in their tactic- have finally been shaken with the death of bishop Ornoa.
Some of them fell on their knees while still holding on to their enchanted weapon, as if they lost hope.
I somehow managed to prop myself up while desperately surpressing the wound on my abdomen.
Even if we beat bishop Ornoa, the grey cult’s members could still push us back but… seeing this situation, it seems we finally have a bigger possibility to defeat them.
「HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA! GOOD JOB, SCRAWNY MAN!」
The grey cult member called Dick abandoned his opponent and went straight to me.
His face was a mesh due to the drool coming out from his mouth, he brandished his dagger as he made a beeline toward me.
This guy has yet to break.
His personality was even more bizarre compared with the other members of the cult.
Maybe, he was fundamentally different from the other members.
He was simply a sadistic serial killer who joined their cult in order to kill even more people.
On top of that, he was clearly marking me as his target even during a chaotic fight.
Maybe I pissed him off after I abandoned him to kill the grey cult’s healer.
It seems he enjoyed the process of hunting his prey and a fight where both sides went for a kill.
「Dammit.」
I retreated while swinging my sword to deflect Dick’s dagger.
The injury on my abdomen which was caused by bishop Ornoa’s palm strike flared again.
It felt like my inside was torn even with slighest movement.
「The heck is that shi*tty defense? I’m not gonna hear sissy words like “You only kill the weak one”. Now prepare yourself, I’m going to go for the kill this time, fight like you’re going to die.」
Dig was preparing for another attack with a stance that was full of opening.
He tried to bait me into his trap.
Edda ran past me from the side, stabbing toward Dig.
Dig was careless, he didn’t see this attack coming, he just barely defended himself with his dagger but Edda skillfully disarmed him too.
"
"
Dig quickly turned his body in midair and caught his dagger before it fell to the ground, and tried to stab Edda the moment his feet landed on the ground.
That stab might be a feint to hide his own opening after he landed on the ground but, almost at the same time, Edda was also stabbing her sword toward Dig, and due to the difference between their weapon’s length, Edda’s sword dug into Dig’s shoulder first.
Dig retreated right away but fresh blood was spraying from the stab wound on his shoulder.
「AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! WHY EVERYONE LOVE BRANDISHING THEIR WEAPN FROM SAFE PLACE! WHY THEY DON’T WANT TO ENJOY THE THRILL OF WANDERING BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH IN CLOSE COMBAT!」
Dig screamed as the arm which shoulder got stabbed was lying limp.
「…Edda!」
「Get back, you’re just a hindrance if you join the battle with that kind of injury.」
「Ah, sorry, I leave the rest to you…」
「… But then, the current you look shadier than the normal you.」
Despite her harsh and thorny words… Edda was a reliable comrade.
Since I’ve been getting used to her abusive remarks as of late, I could finally differentiate when she really meant it and when she was joking.
「STAPH INTERRUPTING MA FIGHT WITH THAT SCRAWNY MAN!」
Despite having an overwhelming handicap namely the length of his weapon and the wound on his shoulder, Dig could still utilize the flexibility of his dagger to attack Edda.
Even after being cornered this far, Dig’s attack was as fierce as before.
But, even with his extreme mastery of his weapon, Dig’s opponent was also a master of her own weapon.
Edda saw through the gap in Dig’s attack which was caused by his wound, and chose a hit and run tactic while slowly tormenting her enemy through the gap of his attacks.
「I can’t… let’s take a break till the battle ends. It might sound unreliable but, I’ll protect you during that time.」
Mani came over till she was standing right beside me and patted my shoulder.
She readied her 《Evil Spirir’s Battle Hammer; Gadras》, keeping her vigilance from our surroundings.
I looked around to confirm the current situation, and nodded lightly to her.
From the very beginning, the adventurer’s side already overwhelmed the grey cult with our numbers.
The enchanted weapon’s user from the grey cult had lost the key player of their tactic, their healer right in the beginning of the battle and their leader, bishop Ornoa just a while ago.
The eight enchanted weapon’s users from the grey cult had already less than half of them by now, and that number would only be reduced in a while.
We won this battle.
I was looking at the general situation in our surroundings along with Mani, the casualty from the adventurer’s side was two, and the current situation of our two environmentalists.
Two wounded people were walking toward Mani and I.
「Good job in beating the leader of those lunatics! I really thought that we’re goners when I saw them appearing out of nowhere during the battle but… it’s only matter of time before we win this battle!」
「I retreated early and can’t gather enough achievement, sorry…」
「Don’t worry, I just happen to be good at attracting their attention… Moreover, the one who beat their boss is Gamdon-san.」
I replied to the two with a slightly embarassed smile on my face.
「… Don’t let your guard down. Though there’s only less than half of them, we’re going to lose if they kill our environmentalists. We mustn’t let our guard down… in addition, something doesn’t feels right about this situation.」
Mani warned the three of us.
… She was right, without environmentalists, all of us were gonna die in less than a few hours on this miasma-filled fourth floor.
The same goes for if we were ambushed by demon beasts in our weakened state.
The place where the grey cult kept their hostages was also suspicious, how much they prepared the countermeasure against miasma over there.
We can go to save the hostages as long as we beat the last three of those grey cult members.
「… Sorry but, that move is too naive.」
Heidar stabbed the throat of one of the grey cult members with his 《Prognostication Short Sword; Gjallarhorn》.
The dead fanatic crumbled to his knees, and fell on the ground like a sack of potatoes.
The adventurers who assisted Heidar from nearby showed a relaxed look on their face as they wiped the beads of sweat from their forehead.
