Chapter 74

EP.74 Behind Story - Hunting Evaluation (2.5)

[Behind Story - Hunting Evaluation (2.5)]

※ This takes place after the Hunting Evaluation (2) and before (3).

Elt Island.

During the Hunting Evaluation, after I had taken down Roze Redriver and advanced to the mid-section.

I had finally reached the swamp. A place where thin mud formed a vast lake. It looked difficult to pass through.

I could create a bridge using ice or rock magic, but...

There was a high possibility that monsters and enemy familiars were hiding in the swamp. I could cross using elemental magic, but if they suddenly attacked, I would definitely lose.

‘It’s better to turn back.’

I moved my feet in a different direction.

Then.

Whoosh───!

“Whoa!”

The swamp suddenly surged up!

A reptilian monster the size of two adult men combined flew up, splashing mud. It was the swamp crocodile familiar, Dov, wrapped in water mana.

[ Dov ]

Lv : 60

Race : Monster

Attribute : Water

Danger Level : Low

Psychology : [It wants to knock you down and receive praise from its master.]

It opened its mouth wide, revealing threatening and sharp teeth.

[Roar!]

As the crocodile monster was about to pour a large amount of water from the magic circle, I quickly pressed my fingertips together and condensed ice mana. The magic circle for [Ice Burst] appeared in front of my hands.

「Waterfall (Water Attribute, ★3)」

As the crocodile monster tried to pour a large amount of water from the magic circle,

I released the condensed ice mana towards it.

──── 「Ice Burst (Ice Attribute, ★5)」

Boom───!!

The explosion of ice. A powerful shock wave hit the crocodile monster and [Waterfall].

The ice that spread instantly engulfed the crocodile monster and shot up into the trees.

Thud──!

The long ice block that had frozen the crocodile monster fell into the swamp, forming a thick leg. The ice block, solidified by mana, did not break at all.

It was a much longer ice block compared to the first semester. [Ice Burst] had become quite proficient.

The desire to cross immediately stirred, but I restrained it. As mentioned earlier, if I crossed the ice bridge and enemies suddenly attacked, I would have no choice but to lose.

[Master, another monster is coming.]

[Rumble──.]

Rumble───.

A monster covered in rocks came rolling over in a crouched position. It was an armadillo monster, Arivoli, about 2 meters tall in its curled-up form.

It seemed to have come after hearing the sound of the magic being cast and the ice block falling into the swamp.

[ Arivoli ]

Lv : 56

Race : Monster

Attribute : Rock

Danger Level : Low

Psychology : [It wants to knock you down and be petted by its master.]

「Ice Spear (Ice Attribute, ★4)」

I lightly raised my arm and materialized [Ice Spear] above my head.

I aimed it at the armadillo familiar, Arivoli, which was rolling towards me.

Just as I was about to shoot the [Ice Spear],

─── 「Lightning Strike (Lightning Attribute, ★4)」

Boom─!!

“...!”

A purple lightning bolt pierced through the gaps in the leaves and struck Arivoli.

A powerful electric shock that paralyzed its entire body. The rock armor on its back was easily shattered.

Arivoli lost consciousness, its four legs stretched out, without even having time to scream. Its legs twitched intermittently.

Purple electric currents began to crackle and flow from it due to the aftermath of [Lightning Strike].

‘What’s going on, again...?’

[Master, something dangerous is coming!]

At the urgent call of the Ice Snow Dragon, I felt my heart sink.

Why, why? What now?!

────── [Squawk!]

Suddenly, a familiar raptor's roar echoed through the jungle.

“Ah!”

Breaking through the trees, a black bird wrapped in purple lightning landed powerfully in front of the armadillo familiar, Arivoli. The electric current and wind pressure spread in all directions.

Wow, I was really startled...

“Galia...?”

The bird that appeared before me was a black thunderbird, smaller in size than usual.

It was ‘Thunderbird-Galia’.

[ Thunderbird-Galia ]

Lv : (100)

Race : Monster

Attribute : Lightning

Danger Level : X

Psychology : [It is glad to see you.]

“Issac, I found you.”

On the back of Thunderbird-Galia was a girl with rose-gold hair. She was the top student of the first year in the Magic Department, Luce Eltania.

“Luce?”

The thunderbird lowered its head to the ground.

Luce slid down the thunderbird's neck and landed on the ground as if she were gliding.

She smiled warmly.

Thank goodness... I was really scared when you used [Lightning Strike].

Relief washed over me. Luce would definitely be on my side.

“Hey, how did you find me? That’s amazing...!”

I tried to approach Luce with a smile, but

I stopped short because something seemed off about her.

Her cheeks were flushed, her breathing was hot and heavy, and she had a seductive smile.

As if... she was excited.

A shiver ran down my spine. It reminded me of Luce from the extra bad ending N.13 ‘Cage’ in <Meryen's Magic Knight>.
