Chapter 1

7 min read1,649 words

A sound that defies description, “Puaaaaaah!!” echoed through the Albert family mansion.

It was a vigorous, adorable, and endearing cry. Not a single person in the mansion found this unreserved wailing annoying; instead, everyone’s faces lit up with the thought, “Here we go, another lively day.”

Especially Mary, who, upon hearing the cry, abruptly lifted her head from her tea with her mother, Carré, and stood up. “She’s calling me!” she exclaimed, facing the direction of the cry, and immediately dashed out of the room.

The beloved cry of her child.

Though the child couldn’t yet speak clearly, the wailing clearly conveyed a call for her mother. It was a mother’s intuition.

“Wait for me, my dear. I’m coming right away!”

With a burning sense of maternal duty, Mary hurried through the mansion, determined to reach her child.

Do not think that a noble lady should not move hastily; this was a brisk walk restrained from a full sprint.

And so, she hurried through the mansion...

“...It’s so big. Our house is too big.”

She felt her energy draining halfway through. Her brisk steps turned into a wobbly, weak shuffle. But she continued walking, driven by a mother’s resolve.

“I underestimated the size of the Albert mansion... Perhaps I should have considered selling off half of it, even if it meant a slight decline in our status.”

She couldn’t help but think such unsettling thoughts.

After all, the Albert mansion, second only to the royal palace, was vast. It was luxurious for a leisurely life, but quite troublesome when one had to rush to a call. Of course, she understood that this was a luxurious complaint.

“Next time, I’ll have tea with Mother in a room next to the nursery. Or maybe I should blow up the mansion and rebuild it into a more child-friendly building.”

While walking through the mansion, her thoughts grew increasingly unsettling.

Incidentally, the crying had already stopped, which meant someone must have calmed the child. After all, in the prestigious Albert family, there were always nannies on standby, ready to soothe the child if Mary was delayed.

Despite the mansion’s vastness, she finally managed to reach the nursery.

The door had a cute nameplate, and just seeing the name written on it made her face light up. Her love for her child grew every day, and even the nameplate seemed precious.

But now was not the time to gaze at the nameplate.

Shaking off her thoughts, Mary reached for the doorknob.

“Who was the first to arrive this time...”

Muttering to no one in particular, a grand drumroll echoed in her head.

Inspired by this sound, she firmly grasped the doorknob and declared,

“...I bet the dessert for lunch on Brother Lang!”

With that, she loudly declared and swung the door open.

The room was always kept at a comfortable temperature, and a gentle breeze from the slightly open window swayed the light pink curtains. The wind also caused the mobile above the crib to sway gently.

Anyone could tell this was a room for a child, specifically a very young infant. The numerous baby items and cushions scattered around the room also conveyed how much the infant was loved.

In the center of the room stood...

“I apologize for not meeting your expectations.”

The butler, dressed in his uniform, apologized in a formal tone while gently rocking the infant in his arms.

Mary, not particularly disappointed, replied, “It was Robert this time, wasn’t it?” She had lost the dessert for lunch, but it wasn’t something to regret.

“I thought Lang would win two in a row since he was first last night. This time, it’s Robert’s turn.”

“No, no, it’s not a win. It was just a coincidence, a chance encounter. I didn’t mean to outdo anyone from last night.”

“I see, you were still dwelling on being outdone last night.”

“To adjust my timing, I deliberately stayed in a room far from here, assigned work to Lang and Lucian, and then slipped away when I saw an opportunity. I certainly didn’t do that.”

“You’re being too meticulous.”

Mary was exasperated, but still tried to take the baby from Robert...

The sound of hurried footsteps made both of them turn to the door.

“Cute, cute, our little angel! Uncle is here... Damn, it’s Robert this time! I thought you were with us just a moment ago!”

“The angel’s cry reached us... I was outdone, I was wondering why you were so conscious of time this morning. It was to outdo us here... I lost to Lang last night, and now to Robert. My dignity as an uncle...”

The noisy intruders were, of course, Lang and Lucian.

Despite their contrasting personalities, they were both loud, and this was just another day for them. Or rather, even Robert, who stood there with a smug expression, declaring it a “coincidence,” was part of the usual routine.

Mary sighed, noting that even as uncles, they hadn’t changed.

Just then, more noisy footsteps were heard.

Mary, Lang, and the others turned to the door. The situation and the flow of events were predictable, and they had already speculated, “It’s him, isn’t it?” and “What a pitiful younger brother.”

“Such harsh uncles. Even Father is having a hard time.”

Mary chuckled and took her beloved child from Robert.

Holding the baby in her arms, she looked into the chubby, expressive face. “What is it?” she asked in a drawn-out voice, which only made the baby’s face scrunch up cutely. Mary sighed contentedly, her eyes narrowing in affection.

Just as she did, the door opened.

“Roxanne... Father... Father is here... Oh no, I ran from the back garden, and my side...”

Groaning, Adi stumbled over to Mary. He must have been working in the garden when he heard the baby’s cry and rushed over at full speed. After all, the Albert mansion was vast, and the distance from the garden to the nursery was considerable.

But seeing his child’s face made his fatigue vanish. Adi peered into Mary’s arms, and his expression softened instantly.

Rusty-colored eyes met rusty-colored eyes, and the scene filled Mary’s heart with happiness.

“Roxanne, since you’re awake, let’s go for a walk with Father and Mother.”

She gently rocked the baby and spoke. While doing so, she ignored her brothers’ boasts about not losing at night and their claims of knowing the timing of the baby’s cries. They were noisy and troublesome, but they often gave her and Adi some family time.

After watching them leave, Mary turned to Adi.

He held out his arms, likely indicating that he wanted to carry the baby for the walk.

Mary deliberately turned her back to him, asserting her right to carry the baby.

“I can’t let you, Adi, since you lost the right to carry the baby.”

“But I was in the garden...”

“No, you can’t. Roxanne, Mother was the second to arrive, wasn’t she?”

Mary addressed Roxanne in her arms. The baby’s soft, indistinct sounds seemed like agreement. Though the baby couldn’t speak clearly, Mary took it as a sign of agreement.

As she walked out confidently, Adi followed with a resigned smile.

“Adi, look, it’s Parfait!”

“Really? What’s he doing here today?”

(´;ω;)(;ω;´)

“He’s talking to another Parfait. I wonder what they’re discussing?”

“I don’t even want to acknowledge that there are two of them. But the atmosphere seems tense.”

(´;ω;)っ――――

“Oh, one of the Parfaits has taken out... a novel!”

“Really? The other Parfait has taken out something too.”

(`;ω;)っ{・・・)

“It’s a speech bubble! That’s a comic speech bubble!”

“I see, one is a novel Parfait, and the other is a comic Parfait.”

“The two Parfaits are facing each other, and the tension is palpable...”

“Should we stop them?”

“Yes, it’s sad to see Parfaits fighting. Parfaits, I don’t know what’s going on, but please calm down.”

(´;∀;)(`;∀;)““Miss Mary!!!””

“What’s going on? You’re both Parfaits, so you should get along.”

(´;ω;)“We were deciding who would announce the news first... The novel volume 8 is being released today, on 12/1, and I wanted to be the first to tell you... But the comic Parfait...!”

(`;ω;)“The comic volume 3 is also being released today, on 12/1... I haven’t appeared in the comic yet, so I thought I should be the one to tell you first, but the novel Parfait...!”

“I see. What do you think, Adi?”

“That’s a tough one. Oh, the surroundings are getting bright... Miss Mary, put on your sunglasses!”

“Thank you, Adi!”

“The Parfaits should put on sunglasses too, or their eyes will be hurt!”
