Chapter 3

In the morning, Han Xiaoshu, holding an axe, walked into the depths of the forest with Little Fatty.

Actually, there were many tasks for servants like them, such as chopping wood and fetching water. These were mostly daily trivial matters, providing some convenience for the outer sect.

Han Xiaoshu heard that those with better luck would be taken by the senior disciples outside to assist them.

Tasks like helping to clean up or keeping an eye on the fire in the alchemy furnace were all things that ordinary people could do.

...

When they arrived at the place where the trap was set last night, they found their luck was not bad.

A rabbit had been impaled to death in the trap. The animals here were not like those outside; they had much higher abilities.

A pit over two meters deep, if not equipped with some mechanisms, might not even stop a rabbit.

This was the experience Han Xiaoshu and Little Fatty had accumulated over a year, as they occasionally needed to treat themselves to a feast.

Han Xiaoshu skillfully impaled the rabbit, then skinned it and washed it with the water bottle he brought in the morning.

Holding the skinned rabbit, Han Xiaoshu weighed it and felt it was quite meaty.

He then wrapped it in leaves called Lanzing grass, which were similar to lotus leaves on Earth but grew in the ground.

He mixed some mud with water and coated the rabbit wrapped in Lanzing leaves thickly.

He placed it in a pit filled with mud, covered it with dry firewood, and set it alight, then left it alone.

There was no concept here like on Earth, where setting a fire could lead to imprisonment.

So there was no great concern.

Little Fatty watched from the side, full of doubt, as he saw the mud and the digging.

"Xiaoshu, we're having a special lunch today. What is it? It looks really delicious."

"Wait and see, this time I guarantee you'll eat so much you'll swallow your tongue," Han Xiaoshu replied with a smile.

In the morning, Han Xiaoshu did not rush to use the simulator to practice the cultivation technique, as he was really afraid of the feeling of being so hungry he would collapse. He planned to practice after having a full lunch.

...

Time flew by as Little Fatty repeatedly asked questions, and finally, it was time for everyone to rest.

Han Xiaoshu noticed that Little Fatty's eyes had been fixed on that piece of land since the morning, occasionally pondering the aroma that wafted from the ground.

When he dug through the ashes and pulled out the hard mud ball, the aroma had already seeped through the cracks in the mud shell, attracting the attention of many senior disciples.

With a "thud," Han Xiaoshu used the back of the axe to gently pry open the mud shell, shook off the mud, and peeled off the Lanzing leaves.

"Xiaoshu, what's this? It smells so good, I'm almost drooling..."

Before Han Xiaoshu could fully separate the rabbit meat, Little Fatty was already eagerly asking.

"Um, this is... called Beggar's Rabbit. I came up with it myself."

"How is it? Smells good, right? Here, have some." He then gave a large portion of the rabbit meat to Little Fatty.

The meat was already very tender, so it was easy to separate. It felt like the meat could fall off the bones just by shaking it.

"Mmm, mmm, delicious, really delicious. Xiaoshu, you're so amazing, but what does 'Beggar' mean?"

Little Fatty asked while eating, not thinking much about Han Xiaoshu giving him a large portion. To him, since they were brothers, what one brother gave, the other should accept without hesitation.

"Beggar, it's just... why so many questions... I just made it up. It sounds smooth, that's all," Han Xiaoshu replied, not knowing if there was a term for beggars in this world.

"Oh, oh, delicious. Let's make this again next time. It's much better than what we get at the dining hall."

Little Fatty didn't pay much attention to Han Xiaoshu's answer, holding a piece of rabbit meat in one hand and a steamed bun in the other, taking bites from both and occasionally praising Han Xiaoshu.

After finishing the rabbit meat and steamed buns, Han Xiaoshu felt full and brought up the simulator interface, clicking the button for the basic cultivation technique to start automatic cultivation.

Han Xiaoshu felt this was more like a cheat than a simulator.

No one would believe it if he told them. Others cultivated by meditating.

He cultivated by eating and letting the simulator run, which was a bit frustrating, but also a bit satisfying.

Leaving half his energy, Han Xiaoshu started his afternoon work.

An hour of chopping wood quickly passed, and Han Xiaoshu gained 10 points of spiritual energy, which he added to the progress of the Wood Spirit Meridian, bringing the progress to (8/100).

He had considered allocating the spiritual energy to other meridians but decided to abandon this idea for now.

He had no particular advantage in other meridians, and it would be better to specialize in one, possibly achieving better results in the upcoming meridian inspection.

Compared to other servants, he had already surpassed many. After all, he could not only meditate for an hour each day but also increase his cultivation progress based on his level of fullness.

Fullness, yes, indeed.

Who cultivates by eating until they're full? He glanced at Little Fatty, who was still savoring the Beggar's Rabbit, and then at his figure. Could I end up like this too?

He wondered if there was sword riding in this world and if it would be a burden.

Han Xiaoshu thought about it and felt a bit uneasy.

"Xiaoshu, my old man will be back tonight. He sent a message yesterday asking you to come back with me."

Little Fatty suddenly turned around and said to Han Xiaoshu.

"Uncle Gou is coming back? Isn't he working in the outer sect? It's not easy for him to come back."

Han Xiaoshu was a bit surprised.

There was a clear distinction between those who entered the outer sect and servants like them.

For servants, once they entered, they could not return at will, as if bound by some constraint.

"Yes, my old man hasn't been back since he was selected to enter the outer sect ten years ago. I almost forgot what he looks like," Little Fatty said without much emotion.

It wasn't surprising that Little Fatty said this, as he was only five years old back then.

But in this world of cultivation, family ties were a very faint concept.

Everyone sought to transcend and become immortal, and after a hundred years, those around them might be nothing but bones.

Children had little affection for their parents, but for parents, children might not be everything, but they were a significant part.

Otherwise, they wouldn't stay in the sect as servants for the next generation. This was a matter of position.

After having a big meal at the dining hall in the evening, Han Xiaoshu and Little Fatty left amidst the surprised looks of the others.

This time, Han Xiaoshu did not wait to be full before using the simulator to run the cultivation technique; he ran it while eating, which did not make him feel too full.

Even so, Little Fatty's eyes were full of surprise.

He didn't eat much, but there was so much meat. Han Xiaoshu ate so much but remained so thin, which felt a bit off.

Sensing Little Fatty's gaze, Han Xiaoshu felt a bit embarrassed.

"I'm growing, so I eat more," Han Xiaoshu made up an excuse.

"Growing, planning to grow wider?" Little Fatty replied instinctively.

Han Xiaoshu was speechless. You really have a point.
