Chapter 598 of 1160

The Amber Sword Volume 2 Chapter 137

3 min read707 words

TL: Alright guys, get ready for another long round translator’s notes.

First of all, welcome to the new site. Let me start off with this.

F*** it’s finally over!

The past week was pure misery trying to clear functionalities and design. There’s no “Oh wow, I’m so proud for creating a website of my own!”, it’s “Shit, I can’t even tell whether the site looks good or not.” Maybe the reading font is kind of shitty and not big enough, etc (but custom css adjusts it in seconds, so if you guys aren’t pleased with it, tell me in the comments.).

Well, let’s move on to the next topic.

Schedule for May (Important)

For the month of May, I’ll be spending 200 hours on translation alone to get a feel for it. The rest of my time will be spend on drawing. Schedule break down will be:

Weekdays

Morning

– 2 hours of drawing practice

– 3.5 hours of translation

Afternoon

– 1 hour meal time & break

– 5.5 hours of translation

Evening

– 1 hour break

– 1 hour on translation on other series

– 1 hour editing TAS old chapters

16 hours a day.

Weekends will be limited to my drawing and exercise.

I want to see if this is going to work out and I have set up a patreon specifically for The Amber Sword translations. Back then a user asked if I can set up a patreon, and honestly it’s either I go full time translating it or I don’t. By the time I end up finding a real job/paint my own drawings at home and sell it at cons in the future, the schedule for things might really be 10 chapters per month, and I think I won’t even be able to complete it even after 10 years.

I really thought about this a lot and I’m not sure whether you guys want to pursue this series for so long, so I guess I’m going to ride on the patreon wave and see if you guys are interested.

If you want a comparison. One mega-sized harry potter book is around 200,000 words. TAS has about 1500+ chapters, so think of it as 14 harry potter books.

Stuff regarding the website

Next there’s the issue of the new website. I copied over the posts in txt format, therefore expect all images and comments to be gone. I’m leaving the default comment system in place for now (poll below). Technically speaking, I don’t expect myself to changing the front image any time soon (I know, I know, the boys want to see girls instead. You want to the dragon girl right?) because I’m going to be busy with the above schedule.

If you have any specific requests for the website, go ahead and post so I can take a look at it. I’m not sure how the “follow blogs” work, so if you have any clue help me out please. Hopefully there are no functionality bugs, but if you do find one please let me know as well (like next chapter goes to another series or something).

I tried my best to kind of slim down the website, but it’s still at 400kb per post(wordpress is 1.4 megabyte per post). Home page is at 700 kb. Just in case anyone is interested. Page loading time is 1 second vs wordpress 2.8 seconds so there’s an improvement (US server tested).

In any case, please enjoy the ad-free experience. For now anyways. ~_~

One particular series that I took out is the R18 novel Wolf prince and ice princess. I’ll leave it at wolfietranslation. For now.

Just in case you were wondering, honyaku (JP) = translation.

The final thing I need to ask is for the wordpress coding pros —

I tried various ways to do get “left right keyboard” functionality to cycle next and previous chapters, but I can’t seem to get it right.

Night day cycle is also out my league.

I think I’m missing a few steps to check the boolean “True” on wordpress ‘category’. The function post_link is linking to somewhere and I need to do something about it, but I’m too lazy to figure it out. Anyone wants to help?
