Chapter 23

Starting from today, it's a new chapter update.
After finishing my first date with Sir Percival, with the ball approaching, I couldn't say I was bad at it, so I practiced dancing diligently every day.
One evening after dinner, I was invited by the Earl to have tea with four of us in the salon. It wasn't particularly unusual, but recently, with the wedding preparations, the Earl and the Countess had been busy, and Sir Percival had been handling the administrative duties. I had been busy making sure I was a suitable future Countess, so it felt like it had been a while since we had all gathered like this.
The salon, prepared for tea, was cleared of everyone except the head butler, who handed a bundle of letters tied with twine to the Earl.
"Hmm... We had agreed that we shouldn't show these to Mimosa, but it seems we need to deal with Casablanca before the ceremony."
"......Could it be that all of these... are from my sister, I mean, Casablanca...?"
"Yes. They are letters filled with insults, complaints, and poorly written nastiness. You don't have to read them; unfortunately, the content is more trivial than a single page of your favorite book."
"Mimosa, I'm sorry. I was hiding the letters addressed to you. But I thought that if you read them, you might get depressed, so I kept quiet."
While I am grateful for the consideration of the Earl's family, I don't feel the need to be apologized to.
Now that I know the truth, and with how much I've been cherished in this environment, I can clearly see that I was just being overly sensitive and reclusive.
Perhaps because my posture has improved, I don't stutter as much as before, and I'm not as nervous... I think.
"No, thank you for your concern. The content of the letters from Casablanca... well, I can mostly imagine. But why now...?"
In response to my question, the three members of the Earl's family sighed deeply.
Ah, it must be a very troublesome situation. Even someone as socially inept as me can tell from such deep sighs.
"Recently, Percival and I went out, right? It seems that the engagement announcement didn't match up with the rumors about Percival..."
"My friends were half-amused when they heard about it... It seems that Casablanca, I mean, that girl, is sending letters to everyone, suggesting that Percy is having an affair with a handsome servant and Mimosa. It's embarrassing to have such a sister..."
"If I had dressed more like a noble... no, but Mimosa looked very cute that day, and I was the perfect foil... no, that's not the point. Anyway, it seems she is just adding to her own shame."
I was speechless with disbelief.
There's nothing 'secret' about Sir Percival. There was even a young lady at a tea party who was seriously in love with Sir Percival. Everyone knows the 'current' Sir Percival, especially those of higher status.
This will bring shame not to Casablanca, but to her father, Viscount Norton. Father is a kind person... He must be enduring the hysterical sister and mother while working.
"I will write a reply to my sister for the ball. If she's in good spirits, I will invite her to the ball."
I looked at the Earl's family with determined eyes.
