Charlie squatted down, smiling and looking him in the eye, saying, "Have I ever told you that you look just like Dr. Seuss when you're drunk?"
Chen Tiandu was a bit tipsy, smiling with a deep gaze as he stared into her eyes, "Anna, I'm being serious." He added a gesture, propping his face with his hand and tilting his head to look at her, "I'm very serious."
"Ha ha," Charlie's acting was quite good, naturally hugging Chen Tiandu's arm, turning to look at the camera, and joining in her husband's joke, "I guess it would cost at least a few hundred dollars, I need to read the content..."
"Do I really look like Dr. Seuss?" Chen Tiandu continued to interject.
Anna ignored him, "This is to commend him for his outstanding achievements in the field of child psychology, his enthusiastic work attitude, and his continuous efforts to help..."
Charlie was reading the award content, but Chen Tiandu casually picked up a glass and drank it, showing no concern. These physical actions were not written in the script and were entirely up to the actors to improvise.
Charlie was interrupted again, laughing and snatching his glass, "Can you focus a bit? ... He has continuously helped countless children and their families, and the city is honored to present the 'Son of Philadelphia' award to Dr. Michael Conroy, that's you. The Special Professional Excellence Medal." She leaned into Chen Tiandu's embrace, proud of him.
"Wow, we should hang it in the bathroom," Chen Tiandu playfully shrugged, exaggerating his tone.
"Seriously, today is a special day. The things you've done for children are finally recognized..." Charlie, playing the role of his wife, kept praising him and celebrating, while Chen Tiandu, playing Dr. Malcolm, appeared indifferent and even a bit silent, his eyes occasionally darting away. But he still patiently listened to his wife's praise and finally kissed her.
In these few shots, Chen Tiandu's eyes changed continuously, vividly portraying a husband with worries yet deeply in love with his wife.
The two embraced and kissed as they walked toward the room, acting like an old married couple who had had a bit to drink and were getting playful. With the music, clothes were thrown everywhere. Suddenly, Anna froze, staring at a pile of broken window glass.
Malcolm's eyes changed, and he quickly walked over.
At that moment, a shadow suddenly darted behind them.
"Ah—" Anna screamed in terror.
"Cut. Great, come and take a look."
Assistant Director Hancock said, and there were a few claps around.
It was Vin Diesel and Kate clapping, encouraging several others to join in.
Chen Tiandu smiled, walked behind the camera to review the previous shots, and Charlie also came over to look.
After watching, Chen Tiandu smacked his lips and said, "It's just okay, where's the good part? Charlie, when you look at me, don't avoid my gaze. We're playing an old married couple; I won't eat you, so why do you avoid my gaze?"
"Sorry, ha ha," Charlie laughed and joked, "It's just that your eyes are too deep, I can't help it."
Chen Tiandu said helplessly, "My eyes aren't gentle enough either, let's do it again."
...
A week later, after finishing the apartment scenes, the filming moved to the scenes where Cole meets Dr. Malcolm. After learning from the crew for a long time, Haley finally got to appear on screen.
"Cole, are you excited about the upcoming scenes?" Chen Tiandu, wearing a coat, leaned against the wooden door of the church.
His eyes smiled with a hint of sadness, habitually slipping into the role of Dr. Malcolm.
Haley smiled slyly and used the character's name to address Chen Tiandu, "Yes, Dr. Malcolm, if you're a good psychologist, you should be able to guide me on how to act."
Asking if he was a good doctor, this was also the next line of dialogue.
Chen Tiandu smiled and ruffled his hair, "We'll get to know each other."
For those who haven't done this, it's hard to imagine that behind a few seconds of screen time, there are days of preparation for the set and props. But after just a few seconds, all this preparation will be destroyed.
Of course, big companies have their own studios, and some major films can preserve the shooting scenes for tourists to visit. Hollywood has developed its tourism industry this way.
After two weeks of shooting, Kate finally appeared on screen for the first time.
Despite the limited number of scenes, it took two weeks to wait for Kate's appearance, which shows that Chen Tiandu's progress wasn't fast.
This was closely related to his meticulous approach. He didn't rush, always leaving plenty of time for everyone to rest and maintain the best state for shooting. If one take wasn't perfect, he would ask for more.
This set of scenes was about Cole going to school in the morning, with Kate playing Cole's mother preparing breakfast. She noticed a stain on his school tie and helped him change it. In a few seconds, she suddenly found all the cabinet doors and drawer handles in the dining room open. She screamed in fright, and Cole... with a tense and fearful look, nervously and worriedly watched his mother. His hands were sweating, resting on the table, but he hadn't moved.
In a subtle way, it gradually revealed Cole's uniqueness. By this point in the shooting, nearly 17 minutes of footage had been completed, but Cole's "ghost eye" had not yet been revealed.
"Are you looking for something, honey?" Kate, startled, looked at Cole with a suspicious gaze.
"Chocolate chip cookies, Mom."
Kate's eyes shifted between Cole and the open cabinet doors, speaking softly, "They're right here."
"What are you thinking, Mom?" "A lot of things." Kate closed the cabinet doors one by one.
"Do you think I'm bad, Mom? Am I a freak?" Haley looked at Kate with a sad expression.
"Hey, look at me. I will never think you're bad, understand?"
"Stop!"
Chen Tiandu called a pause, and Kate and Haley looked at him in confusion.
"Kate, Haley, you both did great, but can you be a bit more natural? Kate, when you said 'Hey, look at me,' you were standing too far away, which made it seem stiff. Try moving to the table and leaning on it, looking seriously into Haley's eyes. After all, you love your child and don't want him to be hurt."
Kate smiled apologetically at Haley and turned to say, "Okay, I understand."
Chen Tiandu gave her an encouraging look, "More interaction, you're an experienced actor, don't be nervous. Hairstylist, make Kate's hair look more natural, like a woman who just woke up and hasn't combed her hair yet."
"OK."
In the following shooting, Kate quickly realized why Chen Tiandu praised Haley. The boy's timid and fearful eyes were heart-wrenching. Sometimes he got into character faster than she did, and if she didn't put in her full effort, she might be outdone by him.
"The Sixth Sense" wasn't a particularly complex movie. After more than half a month of collaboration, the actors gradually immersed themselves in their roles, and they didn't need to strictly follow the script's sequence for shooting.
Kasenberger was a busy man and didn't spend much time on set, giving Vin Diesel and other production assistants many opportunities. Vin Diesel didn't mind; he was just taking advantage of his vacation to earn a producer's fee.
As one of the three major figures at DreamWorks, Kasenberger naturally wouldn't be on set every day.
Sometimes he would stay for just a few minutes and leave, and sometimes he wouldn't appear for several days.
But recently, he had been coming more frequently, spending a lot of time "chatting" with Chen Tiandu every day.
Although they "chatted" away from others, everyone still noticed and couldn't help but worry about the future of the production.
