Chapter 74

"Trinity, we've been breached, the method is unknown. We've already cut the transmission cables. You're in danger now, you need to leave quickly." Morpheus suddenly warned from behind. The actor was using a wireless earpiece like the computer agents, not a mobile phone, to facilitate more flexible entry into the Matrix.
"Are there computer agents?" Trinity asked.
"Who?" Neo interjected, alarmed.
"Yes, they're all here. There's no time, you need to escape from the other exit."
Trinity bit her lip and said angrily, "Damn it, come if you dare."
"Don't be reckless. There's a payphone on Wachowski Street, three kilometers away. You can use it. Go, now!"
Trinity looked around sharply, grabbed Neo's hand, and led him through the subway, climbing up a metal ladder by a subway grate.
The villain Hugo Weaving and his subordinate Charlize Theron made their first appearance, wearing sunglasses, suits, ties, and leather boots, with a serious demeanor, exuding coolness. Especially Charlize, who was incredibly eye-catching.
"Chief, your duties have been clearly explained to you."
"Hey, this is also my job. You said I could improvise. What, are you kidding me?"
"Your duties were clearly explained to protect you. Your men have been eliminated."
"We can handle this much." The chief defiantly retorted. Hugo Weaving walked away, and the chief's face changed, realizing the situation was bad. He shouted, "Besides, I sent two teams, they'll bring the person out for you to see."
"Chief, your men are all dead."
The three computer agents had just entered the subway passage when they immediately faced Trinity and Neo, who were escaping up the subway grate.
"Bang, bang, bang, bang" a burst of gunfire rang out. Neo was terrified and quickly pulled his foot back to hide under Trinity's pull. He clearly didn't understand the situation, "I just stole some money, why are the special agents chasing me? And they're shooting."
The pace was fast, and the agents' pursuit was immediate. From underground to the streets, and then to the rooftops, a more incredible chase and battle was about to unfold.
Neo looked at Trinity's changing expression as she ran with him, bit his lip, and forcefully broke free from her hand, shouting, "I just stole some money, why are the special agents chasing me? No, no, they're after you, I can't go with you."
Trinity shouted, "Come on, do you think it's just about that? There's no time, come with me quickly."
"No, no, you're not just a hacker, who are you?" Neo yelled.
Morpheus, the overseer, suddenly spoke, "Trinity, let him go. You can't escape the computer agents with him. They care more about your life." Trinity helplessly let go and watched Neo run away in a panic, then ran in another direction alone.
At this point, the agents clearly considered Trinity more important than Neo. They hadn't yet realized Neo's significance. As long as they caught Trinity, Neo wouldn't escape, so they all focused on surrounding Trinity.
The chase moved from the ground to the rooftops, and Trinity leaped like a superhero between the city's skyscrapers.
At Chen Tiandu's request, the scene was shot from below looking up and from above looking down, capturing Trinity's leap and the flowing traffic below.
"Ready, Action!"
With another night shoot, Trinity took a deep breath, stood up straight, and looked at the opposite rooftop dozens of meters away. She suddenly sprinted and leaped, crossing a river of light in an instant, with the bustling street below flashing by.
She glided through the dark night sky, her face tense, her nerves taut. Suddenly, something in her mind snapped, and everything slowed down. It felt like she was wearing a parachute, her body automatically adjusting its landing posture, slowly descending to the ground. Her bent legs absorbed the impact, and she landed steadily on the opposite rooftop.
She didn't stop, but continued to run.
The female computer agent chasing her, played by Charlize Theron, also leaped without hesitation, landing on the opposite rooftop on one knee, then looked up at the camera, exuding coolness.
The other police officers were stunned, stopping at the edge of the building, exclaiming, "This is impossible!"
This scene needed to be shot on a blue screen, with CG processing to complete the final image. Naturally, many wires were used, and Kate endured a lot during the real shoot. Fortunately, she gradually mastered the wire techniques and, under Yuan Heping's guidance, her movements became more standardized.
This scene was very classic, and since Chen Tiandu decided to make changes, he added more shots to the exciting parts.
So Kate not only leaped across one street but engaged in a continuous chase across several streets. Chen Tiandu imagined a series of high-altitude leaps, like a superhero battle.
He thought of the intense fight scenes in "Man of Steel," where the destruction was immense, a classic of non-human combat. Here, people entered the Matrix without the indestructible bodies of superheroes, so Chen Tiandu focused more on technique than invincibility and unmatched strength.
With a series of graceful techniques, the scene naturally became very beautiful.
After several streets, Trinity hid behind a building, panting heavily with two guns in her hands. A tall building blocked her path, and she couldn't jump any further. The camera focused on a lit wooden window dozens of meters away on the opposite wall. Trinity bit her lip and ran quickly. Gunfire rang out behind her. She leaped, her body straight like a diver, and "bang," she crashed through the wooden window, rolling down the stairs several times.
"Click, click," Trinity, still on the ground, raised her two guns, aiming at the narrow wooden window behind her. A chandelier swayed above her head.
Trinity was drenched in sweat, her rapid breathing showing her tension. She waited for five seconds, but the agents didn't follow.
"Get up, Trinity." Knowing she couldn't stay down, she encouraged herself.
"Get up," she muttered, leaping up and quickly escaping. But just as she was about to reach the payphone on Wachowski Street, she saw Smith arrive, driving a large truck straight towards the phone booth.
Thus, a classic scene from the original occurred: Trinity racing against the truck, escaping just before the phone booth was destroyed.
On the other side, Neo successfully escaped into a crowded nightclub. He saw police chasing him and used the crowd in the dance floor to hide. He hid in the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and splashed water on his face. When he lifted his head, he suddenly noticed the bathroom mirror rippling like water.
He stared, and the mirror returned to normal.
He thought it was a hallucination, but the mirror rippled again. It seemed this world was never real, and such illusions kept appearing. He cautiously touched the mirror, and his finger actually went through it. He pulled back, startled, and the mirror rippled like water, making a sound.
This scene was not in the original, where Neo's doubt about the reality of the world was only hinted at through Morpheus's words, which seemed forced and unconvincing. So Chen Tiandu added this scene to show that Neo often "encountered" the illusory side of this world.
"Ring, ring, ring" his phone suddenly rang, startling him. Annoyed, he answered, "Who is it?"
"Someone's in, Neo, follow the white rabbit."
"What?" Neo's face changed.
"Hey, handsome, are you alone? Want to go out and play?" A drunk woman suddenly entered the men's room and lunged at him. Neo waved her off, "Go away," but then noticed a white rabbit tattoo on her bare shoulder. He hesitated, then decisively grabbed her waist, "OK, where to play."
Following the white rabbit, he successfully escaped the agents and returned home. The next day, he went to work, but the computer agents found him at the office. Guided by Morpheus, he escaped the agents, but Morpheus's route was extreme, requiring him to escape via a maintenance elevator outside the window. Neo climbed out of the window between skyscrapers, the wind blowing his tie, and his phone fell.
This scene, even for viewers without acrophobia, would make their legs go weak and unable to watch.
Chen Tiandu's legs also went weak when shooting this scene. He didn't think he had acrophobia, but he still didn't dare to walk like that. So he was tied with two safety harnesses, but still felt insecure, "What if the rope breaks?"
Chen Tiandu, usually very efficient, was stuck here, and Kate teased him for a long time. Everyone saw the ordinary side of this impressive director.
"Ha, to be honest, did you feel your pants get a little wet?" Lawrence joked.
"Hey!" Chen Tiandu loudly retorted, "It's already good that I could walk up there. It's a hundred meters high, a hundred meters."
"Actually, it's only 65 meters." Kate suddenly added, making Chen Tiandu grit his teeth, wanting to slap her butt. Kate caught his resentful look and raised her hands, laughing, "OK, it's high, a hundred meters, most people wouldn't even dare to look."
"Ha ha ha~~" Everyone around laughed.
Even the shooting was so difficult, it was unimaginable how the result would be, so Neo was still captured.
This entire scene was shot at night, and everyone had to adjust their schedules, working very hard every day, but fortunately, the shooting progressed smoothly.
Through this collaboration, Director Yuan Heping saw a different side of this young man from the mainland. No wonder he could achieve so much in Hollywood on his own. He knew every shot he wanted to shoot and was full of energy, always one of the first five to arrive at the set. And he had a beautiful girlfriend with him, yet he still got up early.
Working under such a director, no department was idle. It was definitely tiring, but efficiency greatly increased, and the pace was fast.
