From that point on, I started to think while watching that strange man. Yes, I finally stopped my ridiculous escapist daydreams.

I thought about the forest, and how all of the creatures had disappeared overnight, leaving behind a miserable shadow of what it had been. However, as I was a rabbit, I was not in an environment where I could gain much knowledge, so I had to think carefully about it.

The most likely reason was magic. The second most likely was that a giant beast with magical powers had gone on a runaway rampage. Any other reason I could think of were all related to some natural disaster having occurred.

But I can’t understand why any of that would have happened in the first place. Perhaps the people in front of me might know about it? Al, Mara, and even his Royal Highness; I’ll have to gather information from you!

In truth, I really want to know what happened to my friends. But since I’m totally unprepared for this situation, I’ll have to take it slowly for now.

When faced with the chance that those little light brown children might not have survived, I felt a fear and anxiety that I couldn’t stand overwhelm me.

I decided to think about my future. It was peaceful in that forest and in the past, it was easy to live without knowing anything, but it will be tough in the future if I try to live like that.

Ignorance is equal to powerlessness, so of course, I want to acquire knowledge. If there is something I can learn that will save me in an emergency, I want to know it!

I will do my best if it is for a peaceful future!

Viva la rabbit life!

Aim! Peaceful life!

Huh? That’s not how the saying goes? Well, I’m a rabbit, so don’t worry about it too much.

In the end, the thoughts and plans I had were still pathetic and timid.

His long ears twitched as he suddenly sensed the approach of several noisy animals. What’s this? What’s going on? This is worrying…I can hear at least five animals approaching. The sound gets louder and louder.

[Wow!]

[Oh, it’s unusual for His Royal Highness to be in his study at this time of day. It seems the dogs have arrived. What will you do? Will you return to your private room?]

Wait, those sounds are all dogs?!

[Oh, that’s right. It’s a bit of a hassle, but since it’s for them, let’s go. It’s time to feed them a little.]

Hmmm…

It seems that His Highness is moving to his private room alone. I don’t know the size of those dogs, but if I’m not careful, they could eat me alive! Staying here is a great idea!

Excellent decision, Your Highness!

[And Kuro…let’s go.]

Terrible decision, Your Highness!

It’s not a good idea to take me with you! Hey, are you listening?! They’ll eat me! I’m too delicious! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!

[Don’t go wild. We’re just moving rooms. Be good, okay?]

I’m sorry! I’m going to get up! I’m leaving!

However, while exchanging this one-way communication, I was quickly caught. His Highness wedged me under his arm, and I couldn’t move at all! Well, I mostly couldn’t move because I was so flustered… so many muscles!

Al seemed to have left to move the dogs to another room, as he wasn’t standing at the door. While wondering where exactly the private room was, I found it was much closer than I expected. In fact, it was just next door to the room I was just in, the office. The office is of course, huge, but not big enough that the private room needed to be on another level. So we just walked there, without going up any staircases.

Anyway, what I meant to say was….

*Gacha*

[Kuro. I’d like to introduce you to my pet dog.]

I’m not ready at all !

By the way, I remembered while being carried down the corridor that Al had said his Highness had owned ten dogs before he caught me. The thought sent me into a cold sweat.

Although rabbits don’t sweat.

It’s why they don’t smell bad!

However, not sweating won’t fool a dog with a keen sense of smell. They would be able to tell when even the smallest something was mixed in with his Highness’s scent.

His Highness moved me to his shoulder, so I guess I’m safe but…Dogs quickly surround his Royal Highness, barking and whining. They jump and paw, trying to climb towards me!

The area around his Highness has become very noisy indeed.

Hiiiiiiiiii! I felt it! I felt claws graze my tail!

His Highness had said they were dogs, so I thought they were dogs. Even though I was worried, I still met them because, of course, I thought they were dogs. But aren’t they bigger than dogs?! These gray mofumofu-sans! Your fangs are sharp! You’re aiming for me, right?! I’m sure of it! These might as well be dogs to you, but this makes a big difference to small animals like me! Yeah!

Because, aren’t these wolves?!

[Hmm, it seems you’re welcome. I’m glad. You guys, Kuro is now a pet of mine, the same as you. So don’t bully him.]

[Your Highness -]

[What wrong, Al?]

[ Kuro-sama is scared. He’s trembling.]

[They bullied him so quickly?!]

[Rather, am I the only one who feels it is Your Highness who’s doing the bullying…?]

Al! I agree with that too!

As expected, the wolves quickly quieted down under the intimidating glare of His Highness. True, they had been picking on the Black Rabbit, but they truly had no intention of eating it. It was because they were so curious as to why the Lord had put the little rabbit so high up that they kicked up a fuss and got excited.

Yes, that’s right, it was all His Highness’s fault!

In the end I was so frightened that I couldn’t even think. Frightened by the wolves, and even more, I was frightened by His Highness’s anger, and went wild in the room.

However, by using a technique that combines agility and dexterity, I made sure not to break, knock down or mess things up in the room. I was relieved.

So the place where I finally settled was…

[Cha! Kuro-sama, your head is hidden, but your butt is … fluffy! Do the rest of you see this?]

[…]

[Kuro-sama, I’m really sorry to have frightened you. I’m sorry. So…It’s fine if you stay there and calm down for a while.]

*Bang!*

[Ah, I’m very sorry!]

In the end, I had pushed my head between the chests of drawers and managed to calm down, but now I had the pitiful appearance of my fluffy butt poking out, exposed.

Well it seemed this scene had healed everyone’s hearts, and His Highness quickly forgave them in indulging in the scene. But! While feeling healed, and apologising, I want you to look! After all, you haven’t actually reflected, have you?! Hey, I was actually really scared, you know?!

*Bang!*

So I express my anger by hitting the floor with my back foot.

My anger seems to have been handed down and the Prince, looking at my fluffy butt, rubbed his forehead vigorously against the floor. He curled into a ball skillfully, begging forgiveness.

And looking down on it with cold, keen eyes was Al.

Even the wolves were huddled in the corner of the room, shaking under their Lord’s pressure.

What a chaotic scene…

However, it had really been a life or death crisis! So I won’t stop banging on the floor for a while!

Think about my (little animal) feelings!
