Chapter 106: Twist
Ji Yunhe's hand struck forcefully onto the Grand Master's chest, then her eyes widened.
It was as if her strike had landed on a ball of cotton, the force scattered away and his body glowed...
Changyi, standing outside Ji Yunhe's black aura, was shocked by what he saw.
The bright light around the Grand Master's body quickly merged at his chest and took in all of the power she used on contact.
"Yunhe…!"
Ji Yunhe felt a sharp pain in her palm before Changyi's cry reached her ears. "Immortal seal..." She could not believe it, the Grand Master actually had an immortal seal protecting his body.
Her arm shattered under the seal inch by inch and she was violently knocked back onto the wall again.
Both the black demonic aura and her tails disappeared. Ji Yunhe slid down the wall and fell lifelessly to the ground.
Changyi charged in with his sword and aimed for the Grand Master's back.
The Grand Master did not move or dodge. When the sword was about to pierce into him, a person covered in blood ran between them and blocked the blade.
Princess Shunde...
She had broken free of her confinement on the wall and shielded the Grand Master with her body. Changyi's sword pierced into her shoulder, but was then shattered by her bloody hand. He summoned the surrounding water and ice needles flew at both Shunde and the Grand Master.
Shunde pulled the Grand Master and they fell to the ground together, dodging the needles. Her body stained his immaculate white robe with blood.
"Master... master..." Shunde's eyes trembled and looked frantic. "I won't let anyone kill you, I won't..."
The Grand Master spaced out for a moment as he looked at the bloody face in front of him, and he gently stroked her cheek.
Shunde shivered under his cool touch and the madness in her eyes receded. Her expression now had a calmness that had not appeared in a long time. "Master..."
Her voice seemed to have woken him from a trance. "You are not her..." he said.
And Shunde's calmness was instantly torn to pieces.
The Grand Master turned his head and looked at Ji Yunhe who had passed out from his seal. He narrowed his eyes. "No one has seen her in decades, Ji Yunhe couldn't have either."
After fending off the two, Changyi slowly made his way to Ji Yunhe. His body was stiff and in a lot of pain from overusing his magic, but that did not keep him from reaching her side.
He touched Ji Yunhe's arm and felt how weak and soft it was. "Yunhe..." he called her name with a trembling voice.
Ji Yunhe did not respond to him. The blood at the corner of her lips terrified him, as if he were back on that frozen lake, quietly sealing her under ice...
The pain that ripped through Changyi's heart did not get to linger long.
A person in white stepped toward them and his footsteps brought an incredible force. The pressure made Changyi feel like he was under a mountain, but he did not bend. He turned his head to face him.
The Grand Master walked step by step closer to Ji Yunhe, his face full of killing intent. "You couldn't have seen her." His voice was colder than the north.
Changyi stood in front of Ji Yunhe with his sword in hand.
The Grand Master gave a cold snort in disdain, "Jiaoren, you can hardly protect yourself right now, let alone protect her."
"I can protect her." No nonsense, only determination.
The Grand Master formed a seal in his hand and waved his sleeve. A magic blade formed out of the everchanging wind and slashed at Changyi.
Ice spears rose up from the ground and blocked the blade. The Grand Master's eyebrows tightened, "You are at the end of your line." His hand moved again. With a flash of light, the wind blade cut through the ice spears in front of Changyi, but it suddenly took a turn and headed for Ji Yunhe behind him.
Changyi immediately retreated and threw himself onto Ji Yunhe, shielding her with his body. The wind blade slashed onto him.
Blood flowed from his black robe, but Changyi's face showed no signs of pain. Aside from the one inside his arms, nothing else mattered to him.
Once he confirmed that Ji Yunhe was not injured, he hurled the ice sword at the Grand Master, and ice spears once again unfolded between them.
"Struggling in vain," the Grand Master mocked and shattered all the ice spears, but unexpectedly, a drop of blood flew through the shards. The Grand Master turned slightly sideways, and for the first time, took the initiative to defend. When he turned back, the corner of his brow had been cut by the drop of blood that condensed into ice on contact.
The Grand Master paused as his own blood trickled out from the wound and rolled onto the floor.
An exhausted jiaoren just injured him?
"A hundred years have gone by in this world, and only you, a demon, is worth a look," the Grand Master said as he wiped the blood off the corner of his brow.
Changyi's fingers were now starting to frost over from exhaustion, and his breath exhaled vapor so white that it was impossible to ignore. The extreme cold temperature inside his body made it difficult to even turn his eyes.
"But, that is all."
The Grand Master's aura swirled around his body and stirred the wind and clouds in the sky. The surrounding air grew so heavy that it was difficult for people to breathe.
He stared at Changyi and prepared to make his killing blow, when suddenly, a breeze independent of his control blew by his ears. It was so light that it was almost imperceptible, but that breeze carried a delicate flower through the gale, and across his side.
In the midst of the Grand Master's raging storm, the flying flower fluttered and drifted to Ji Yunhe.
It landed into her hand that was sitting lifelessly on the ground.
The Grand Master narrowed his eyes and watched as the breeze rolled onto Ji Yunhe's arm then wrapped around her body.
She trembled and opened her eyes.
Her usually dark pupils now flashed with a strange glow, and Changyi saw a demeanor in her face that looked completely different from before.
The breeze lifted Ji Yunhe off the ground and into the air.
She said to Changyi while gazing at the Grand Master, "Excuse me for borrowing her body." Her tone of voice was also very different from Ji Yunhe.
She seemed to have turned into a different person altogether.
Changyi froze.
The Grand Master watched as the air around Ji Yunhe moved. It was not demon power, but the spiritual power of a demon master, and the magic she was using was identical to his.
The wind split between Ji Yunhe and the Grand Master, seemingly battling against each other.
She stared at him from the air, then made a gesture with her hand and more wind started to flow to her side.
The Grand Master had already lost his will to fight by now. His eyes followed her and his shock grew with her every move.
Images from the past emerged and he saw her face and heard her voice.
"This is how it's done..."
"Do not be lazy."
"My disciple is so smart..."
Things that he would never forget, even over hundreds of years...
There was no battle to be fought.
All of the wind now fell to Ji Yunhe's side. She stepped on it and looked at the Grand Master from above with the exact same expression that he had remembered.
His lips trembled, "Master..."
Princess Shunde knew exactly what that word meant to the Grand Master. Her hands clenched into fists.
Ji Yunhe dispersed the spell and landed in front of the Grand Master.
He just stood there and watched her silently.
The Grand Master did not dodge or hide, as if he had been waiting for this moment. He watched as Ji Yunhe lifted her broken arm, formed a seal with her hand, and pressed it into his chest.
The immortal seal around his body lit up and rotated for a moment, then slowly began to crack.
The Grand Master still just quietly looked at Ji Yunhe.
"You've always been here." He thought about what Ji Yunhe had said earlier and smiled. "You've always been here."
Blood seeped out of the corner of his lips as the cracks grew bigger around his immortal seal.
Ji Yunhe's face finally showed some emotion. "I gave you the immortal seal before I died in order to protect you, not to have you linger in this world and turn it upside down."
"Then kill me." He smiled as the light at his chest slowly dissipated under her palm.
The immortal seal shattered, releasing an explosion that destroyed the surrounding trees. Lin Haoqing, who had been pinned to the ground this whole time, finally regained his freedom. He turned over and coughed.
And Ji Yunhe slowly began to close her eyes.
"I won't allow it!"
Shunde madly dashed forward and her sharp nails penetrated the Grand Master from behind before anyone could react.
Blood immediately gushed out from his back, and his power began to flow into her body.
Shunde's face distorted under the sudden influx of his tremendous spiritual energy, looking hideous to the extreme.
She laughed wildly, "Hahahaha! Kill you? Only I can kill you! Hahahahahaha!"
The Grand Master no longer had an immortal seal and was now seriously injured, so he could not defend or push Shunde away.
He raised his hand, and with the last bit of strength, sent Ji Yunhe into Changyi's arms.
"Go..."
His voice was weak while the wounds on Shunde's body began to heal at a terrifying speed visible to the naked eye. She turned her head and the green aura around her body skyrocketed, trapping them all. "No one is going to leave today!" She laughed hysterically. "You will all die here! From now on, this world is mine! Hahahaha!"
Changyi held Ji Yunhe tightly in his arms. Under the pressure of Shunde's aura, walking was already extremely difficult for him. Casting a spell to ride the wind would be nearly impossible.
He looked at Lin Haoqing who was still sprawled out on the ground coughing in pain. He seemed severely injured as well...
It was a hopeless situation...
Just then, a white light streaked across the sky and smashed through Princess Shunde's green aura.
Changyi saw Lin Haoqing appear at his side.
The person who came carried them one in each hand, and crashed through Shunde's green aura again. They soared high into the sky, leaving the madness below.
But Shunde was not in a hurry. She drained the last bit of power from the Grand Master's body, then pushed him away. He staggered two steps and fell to the ground. He had not seen the earth at such an angle for many years, nor had he ever looked up at others from such a perspective.
He turned his head to look at Princess Shunde, the woman he had raised single-handedly because of his own obsession...
Her face looked terrifying, and those unhealed scars were now filled with green gas, wriggling across her face. She had no humanity left in her eyes, only madness.
She looked at the people fleeing up above and blasted a burst of energy at them, but it was blocked and knocked back down, landing next to the Grand Master.
Shunde wanted to go chase after them, but she abruptly coughed.
There were so many different sources of power inside her body that they started to repel against each other. She twitched and trembled.
The Grand Master watched her. He now did not even have the strength to stand up.
The sky gradually darkened and Shunde finally seemed to have fused her powers together. She looked at him.
He was still lying on the ground, unable to stand. His face was gray and defeated, and his head of black hair had turned white.
"Master." Princess Shunde cocked her head as if she was looking at a joke. "Hahahahaha, master, you also have a day sprawling on the ground, hahahahaha!" She laughed and stretched out her hand, pulled him up and led him step by step into the dungeon.
Shunde casually pushed open a cage then threw the Grand Master inside. She locked the door behind her and squatted down.
The light of the only torch inside this gloomy dungeon danced on them as she stared at his withered face. Her expression started out smiling, then turned angry, then she was silent, and finally she wept.
"You see? You see? This world is full of ups and downs. Who knows what will happen tomorrow? You were so high and mighty, like the moon in the sky. Ever since I was a child I could only look up to you, but now… How did you end up here?"
"You wanted to die, because you thought she came back. You thought she came back through Ji Yunhe, right? She wanted to kill you, so you wanted to die? On what grounds?" She stood up. "I forbid it! For my whole life, I had to do whatever you wanted me to. And now, it's your turn to obey me."
She turned around and her shadow was casted onto him by the firelight.
"Master, your power is now mine. Don't you worry, I will fulfill your wish. I will mourn the world for you."
She turned her head and grinned, the corners of her lips stretching to her ears like a ghost from hell.
