My thoughts paused for a moment at the intervention of an unfamiliar and fluent voice that suddenly appeared.
I quickly came to my senses and turned around in the direction of the door to find two young men standing there with smiles on their faces.
“That…”
I wanted to ask them who they were.
But I guess I knew the answer they would give. I subconsciously avoided it.
When Karena spoke faintly, a man standing in front of her approaches her. Then, I took Karena’s hand with a respectful bow and raised it, dropping his warm lips on the back of it.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Franz Burgmueller.”
He smiled and looked exactly like a prince from a dream story that had been told since time immemorial.
His wavy, uneven, golden-brown hair was slightly longer than his shoulders and was lightly tied back in a single bun. The left side of his hair was hidden by a long fringe, but his two clear eyes shone with a blue-gray color. The high bridge of his nose was well balanced. His skin was translucent white. His face was frighteningly well-shaped. He was tall with long, slender arms and legs. All of them were as beautiful as an elaborate sculpture.
The prince tilted his head curiously when he saw Karena standing there, unable to say a word about the sudden development.
“See, Franz, I told you not to go in there without permission, didn’t I?
When she heard another voice from behind Franz, she looked over to see a man who looked to be about Franz’s age standing there with a wry smile on his face.
Karena suddenly grasped the situation and hurriedly folded her knees and lowered her head, her voice trembling.
“I apologize. It’s my first time to see you. I’m Karena.”
After returning the standard greeting, Karena turned her attention back to Franz.
“It’s nice to meet you. This is my bodyguard, Felix. He is the son of the Knight Commander and the Captain of the Imperial Guard.”
At Franz’s words, the man who had been waiting in the back stepped forward.
“It’s nice to meet you, I’m Felix Paul Meyer. I’m Felix Paul Meyer. I’m sure we’ll be meeting a lot in the future, so please make my acquaintance.”
This young man, who smiled as much as Franz did, was also quite good looking, though not as good as Franz.
Short brown hair and blue eyes close to red hair. His sharp eyes were impressive and he looked a little younger when he laughs.
“Nice to meet you, I’m Karena.”
At that moment, I finish my greeting while hiding my surprise.
Then Franz said something surprising.
”
”
“Iyaa~, you’re as beautiful as they say. I’m so happy to see you. I can’t wait to get along with you soon. Why don’t we skip the engagement ceremony and go play together with me?”
I wondered if it’s a habit to extend the end of words.
Play…
No, that’s not the problem, it’s…
When Karena’s eyes widened in surprise at how much she had said, a voice called out from behind her.
“Franz-sama! You can’t do that! You’re going to get Prime Minister Fuchs mad at you again.”
Again…
“I’m sure you’re right, but if I slip out, I won’t be able to marry Princess Karena…”
If you look at the usual manners, you couldn’t tell that he had an intellectual disability, but there’s definitely something wrong.
Yes, I feel like I’m talking to a little boy.
Was this really the prince of a great country who was now twenty-two years old? There was no sense of pressure at all.
“Look, Franz-sama! It’s time to go back to your room. It seems that the princess hasn’t even finished her meal yet.”
“Oh, already?”
“I’ll see you again at the ceremony.”
“But the ceremony hasn’t started yet.”
“Princess Karena has a lot of preparations to make, too.”
“Hmm. Let’s eat together here.”
“The prince has his own preparations to make.”
“I’ll be ready in no time, won’t I?”
“It’s not that simple. It’s a state ceremony.”
“Oh, really? How troublesome.”
“The attendants are waiting for you.”
The two of them continued to chatter while Kareena was stunned in place.
“I see, so there’s nothing I could do about it…”
”
”
“Yes, let’s go.”
“I’ll see you later, Karena.”
Suddenly, I came back to myself and hurriedly replied.
“Yes, I will. See you later…”
“See you later!”
After confirming that the door was completely closed, Clara approached and talked to Karena, who was standing alone watching them leave in a hurry.
“Somehow…”
“It’s not too far off, I guess… I don’t think he looked very sick.”
Sensing what was to follow, Karena remembered Franz’s appearance as she covered her words.
He was tall and fair-skinned, but not morbidly so. I couldn’t tell from his clothes, but he wasn’t too thin. I couldn’t imagine that he spent most of the day in bed, unable to learn sword fighting.
This was the man who would become her husband.
The man who kept ignoring her, the man who was chosen by a political marriage.
“You’ve been observing me like that? But as they say, you are very good looking. He seemed to be very fond of you, Lady Karena.”
Don’t be deceived.
Don’t be fooled by the sweet words.
“But he didn’t explain why he didn’t show up until the day of the event. You can’t just straightforwardly ask. You can’t say that he missed me.”
I couldn’t help but feel as if I had been misled by the momentum.
Or did he not feel like making an excuse for not coming to see me?
It’s just a political marriage.
Or was he trying to say that there’s no way she could have any emotional attachment to a mere political marriage partner?
“I completely forgot about it. I am repeatedly amazed at the princess’s calmness.”
Even so, I was a bride who married into this country.
She was in a position to support the next king of a great country.
If that’s the case.
I would do my part.
Even if what I give was not returned in equal measure.
Even if it’s just a formality between countries.
“Was that a compliment? Well, I guess that’s what political marriages are all about. The crown prince and princess are the most important thing, not me. Hopefully, he won’t be deprived of his right to the throne.”
Even if this was something that could happen many times after the marriage, I couldn’t pry any more. If this was the way they behaved before the marriage, it was only natural that they should be neglected in the same way after the marriage.
This wasn’t your marriage, but a marriage between countries.
You have to assess the situation and avoid doing anything that could be detrimental to your country.
Let’s show them that we could safely fulfill the duties we have been given.
That was the mission that I have been given.
I smiled at Clara to reassure her, and she hugged me with moist eyes.
“I will do my best to help you, Karena-sama.”
“Thank you, Clara. I’m counting on you.”
Outside the door, the prince and his guards stood together in silence.
After they heard no more voices from inside, then looked at each other and started walking.
“You have chosen an intelligent woman, Franz-sama.”
The prince nodded while returning a big smile to the words of the Captain of the Imperial Guard, his escort.
“Right~ My choice wasn’t wrong~”
“Franz-sama, you’re speaking too soon. It is up to you, Franz, to decide whether your choice was right or wrong.”
“That’s right. You have to work hard!
Muttering to Felix’s words with his usual smile.
“But she’s really beautiful, Lady Karena,”
Both of them thought of the beautiful woman they had just met.
She had big black eyes with a strong will. Thick lips with a hint of sex appeal, and jet-black hair, all of which were feminine and beautiful. Her smooth, pale yellow skin, without a single blemish, was something the people of this country could never have. If you were a man, you would want to leave a mark on it at least once. The gentle curves of her body were fleshly, the very image of a man’s ideal woman.
When Felix whispered to him, he smiled again and nodded several times.
“I know, I know. I never thought I’d get that far.”
“Especially with that body…”
“Hey! Princess Karena is going to be my queen! Don’t look at me like I’m crazy!”
Felix’s long-stretched murmur made a frown on his brow and glared at him.
Felix turned his face back in a hurry and pouted this time.
“That’s great, Franz-sama~”
“Rick~”
Being pointed out in a low voice, Felix straightened his face after confirming that there was no one around.
“I’m sorry…”
“Now, good luck with the engagement ceremony~!”
Ignoring Felix’s apology, Franz stopped in the middle of the corridor. He put his hands on his hips and let out a yell for the people nearby to hear.
