Many monsters had made their home within the forest’s bushes.
At the same time, in the vicinity, some humans had made a settlement here.
Right now, a large pack of wolves was heading towards this settlement.
To hunt humans…
And secure food.
The wolves pushed straight ahead.
However, the two wolves leading the pack were blown away.
The wolves behind them stopped to see what was going on, and they saw a man with a chain around his waist, his dark blue hair swaying slightly, with horns on his head.
The man fearlessly steeled himself at the sight of the wolves.
Both his fists were surrounded by electricity.
Frustrated by having their allies beaten, the wolves charged at the man.
However, without getting intimidated, the man intercepted the wolves’ attacks.
Moments later, a shock of electricity went out, and the wolves fell. The man stood imposingly.
After confirming that the wolves had been defeated, the man sighed.
“I’m definitely not gonna let ya get to them…”
After muttering that, the man went into the dark depths of the forest…
At the start of the day, there was always morning.
People went to school or work…
It depended from person to person, but in the morning, people woke up, and got ready to do whatever they needed to do for the day.
And in order to build up the strength for that… there was breakfast.
Some people slept in and skipped breakfast, but take caution,
not eating breakfast could make your brain work slower.
That’s why I always ate breakfast in my past life.
And so, in Reinbark too….
A week after our guild home was finished.
I was cooking breakfast in the kitchen.
The sound of bacon and eggs frying filled the kitchen, and I put toast in the toaster.
I was surprised to learn that toasters existed in this world too.
Incidentally, Meryl, Eim, and I purchased household equipment after the party.
“Alright, after this, I’ll prepare the salad.”
With the bacon and eggs done, I was about to start preparing the salad when Eim woke up.
“Good morning, master.”
“Oh! Good morning, Eim. How’s Meryl?”
Eim and Meryl shared a room.
“Meryl-onee-chan woke up, but she said to give her five more minutes, then went to sleep.”
This idiot…
“Eim, can I leave the salad to you? I’ll go wake up the useless goddess.”
“Understood. Don’t overdo it.”
“I’ll try.”
Leaving the salad to Eim, I headed for Meryl’s room and knocked on her door.
I wouldn’t open the room without knocking. There was no way that I would let myself accidentally see Meryl changing.
“Meryl, I’m coming in!”
Knocking three times to no response, I entered the room and saw her asleep on the bed.
“Oi, Meryl. Wake up. It’s morning!”
I shook her shoulders to try and wake her up. She turned around and mumbled.
Immediately…
“Nuaaaaaa!”
“Ugh!?”
While yawning, she managed to punch me in the face.
She then went back to sleep soundly.
This annoyed me, and I summoned electricity from my hand…
“Wake up for good, you oversleeping useless goddess!!”
“Iyaaaaaa!?”
The sound of electricity crackling, and both Meryl and I screaming, echoed throughout the guild home.
“Alright, I did it!”
The salad should have been completed around this time.
A few minutes after…
We were at the table, eating breakfast.
Meryl was still spasming from the shock, and her body was singed, but I didn’t really care.
“These bacon and eggs… they’re tasty.”
Eim was chewing her eggs on toast while smiling.
She seemed to like my food.
I was drinking coffee while reading a letter delivered to us.
The letter, to put it simply, was news.
The letter concerned the army’s movements.
Recently, there were some bad rumors about the army.
It was only a matter of time before they got into a confrontation with the knights…
“Anyway, we haven’t received any commission requests yet, huh…”
Meryl muttered, sighing deeply.
It had been a week since we formed the Handymans’ Guild.
However, I couldn’t say that we’d been receiving requests…
For the better part of the week, I’d just been doing quests at the Adventurer’s Guild.
I wanted commissioners to come, but…
“Well, we’re still starting out, right? Let’s wait and see.”
I said, straightforwardly, while sipping my coffee.
“But at this rate, we’ll have to disband.”
I spat out my coffee at what Eim said.
My coffee ended up spilling over Meryl.
“W-what are you saying all of a sudden, Eim?”
“There’s no reason to establish a guild that doesn’t take in requests.”
While replying in a grounded way, Eim passed Meryl a handkerchief.
What she said was true, but…!
“What choice do we have? We have no choice but to wait for clients.”
I drank my coffee, then sighed.
Then, the doorbell rang.
Could it be a commissioner…?
I opened the front door, and saw a man standing there.
“What do you need?”
“D-defeat an oni for me!”
“An oni?”
For the time being, I invited him in to listen to his request and serve him tea.
“What’s an oni?”
I was confused at the mention of an oni.
Then, Eim came to explain.
“Onis are a kind of demihuman. They have two horns, and they possess terrifying strength. I thought the oni clan was wiped out in the past, though…”
“So this is a survivor from the oni clan?”
It was probably just as Meryl thought…
Putting the topic of onis aside, I listened to the man.
“The truth is, a few weeks ago, I saw an oni in our village.”
An oni, huh…
“The oni… killed everyone in the village… and wiped it out…”
So this person was a survivor, then…
“My loving wife… and my daughter…! They were killed by the oni! Please! There are still many villages nearby! If we let him get away, there will surely be more damage to come!”
The man grabbed my hand and tried to appeal to me.
He had lost his family and friends, and come all the way here…
“Alright, we’ll take this commission. Sorry, but do you know the whereabouts of this oni?”
After the man told us its whereabouts, he rested in Izuruli.
For the time being, we had to quickly get ready.
A murderer…
This oni couldn’t be let off the hook!
We finished preparing and headed to the specified area…
