Together with Lulu Nicatta, who was attacked by goblins, we entered Izuruli City. Surrounding us were numerous people and shops.
“Whoa, what a lively city.”
“Plenty of people live in and come to Izuruli City. Of course, many adventurers set off from here too.”
“Adventurers… Right, Lulu-san, you work at the Adventurers’ Guild, right?
“That’s right. It’s that building over there!”
Looking in the direction Lulu-san pointed in, there were plenty of people who seemed like adventurers.
“You can take on quests there, can’t you?”
“You can. On that note, you can register to become an adventurer over there.”
Adventurer registry… Registering as an adventurer would undoubtedly be important.
“Hey, Lulu-san? We want to become adventurers too, is that alright?”
“Of course, I’ll make an inquiry! …That being said, you guys really still aren’t adventurers?”
“Well. We thought that we’d need to get more powerful before becoming adventurers.”
My lie had Lulu-san convinced. I feel a little guilty, but I can’t help it.
After all, we couldn’t just say that we aren’t from this world.
Upon entering the Adventurer’s Guild, all the adventurers inside turned to look at us.
…It felt as though we were students who came in late.
With that, Lulu-san guided us to the window.
“Now, Aruto-san, Meryl-san… I’ll be checking your Condition Braces.
Nodding to Lulu-san’s words, Meryl and I brought up our status screens.
“Um… Meryl-san is a mage, and Aruto-san is… eh?”
Ah, so she was surprised as expected?
Lulu-san thought she saw it wrong, but no matter how many times she rubbed her eyes, it didn’t change.
And so, she looked at me awkwardly.
“Um, Aruto-san? I don’t mean to be rude or anything, but I just want to ask. Are you by any chance classless?”
Lulu-san’s words have caused the other guides and adventurers to look at me in shock.
She looked at Meryl, who was standing beside me, but she was also at a loss for words.
“It’s what it looks like. I don’t have a class.”
After I spoke… the facility was covered in silence for a while.
Then, some seconds later…
“Bwahahahaha! Get a load of this, guys!”
“This classless guy’s going to be an adventurer!”
“That’s way too reckless! Ah, my stomach hurts!”
As soon as it was known that I was classless, the other adventurers burst into hysterical laughter. The staff other than Lulu-san were also holding in laughs.
…hm?
I felt a sudden gaze on me. As I turned to its direction, I saw a green-haired man looking through the window outside the facility.
When that green-haired man saw me looking, he went off to god knows where.
Those clothes… could it be…
I pondered about the green-haired man, but couldn’t concentrate due to all the laughter.
How annoying… but I’m not going to let myself get provoked by that.
There’s no way that anyone would get provoked from this, actually.
“A-Aruto-san isn’t reckless!”
…I take that back. There was someone like that here.
Meryl opened her mouth with a grumbly expression. Lulu-san opened her mouth this time too.
“Yes. His skills are real! He saved me from some goblins!”
Two people were vouching for me.
I facepalmed and sighed.
“You two… I appreciate the sentiment, but please calm down.”
“We won’t calm down!”
“Even if you won’t, cool it! You’re causing a stir.”
“…understood.”
The two reluctantly agreed to my warning.
Ahem, Lulu-san coughed, as she regained her composure.
“Alright, tomorrow, you’ll be taking the adventurer registration test!”
“There’s a test?”
“What’ll be in it?”
In response to our inquiry, Lulu-san brought out a quest book and handed it over to us.
“You’ll be taking on a single quest.”
Hm? The quests are things such as: ‘Bring five copper apples back from Fielin Forest…’, huh? At least it’s not anything like taking things down…
“The test will be tomorrow morning. Please don’t be late.”
“Understood. Well then, we’ll see you again tomorrow morning.”
“Okay! Thanks a lot for today!”
I told Lulu, who was smiling and thanking me, not to worry about it, before leaving the facility along with Meryl.
As we left, the other adventurers looked at me like I was an idiot, but I merely ignored them.
Once we went outside and headed to the tool shop, Meryl stopped and called me.
“Aruto-san! Wasn’t how they were acting frustrating to you?”
Does she still care that they called me a classless idiot…?
“It’s alright. Besides, they’re telling the truth.”
After buying health potions and antidotes, I continued to speak.
“I’m glad you’re getting angry for my sake, but please don’t get into disputes with other adventurers.”
“…Aruto-san, if you say that…”
Seeing Meryl hanging her head, I giggle.
“W-what is it?”
“No… it’s just you don’t seem like a goddess like this.”
“…I guess this isn’t for me, huh?”
As Meryl heard me, her expression turned gloomy.
Ah, there’s been a misunderstanding.
“That’s not it. I thought goddesses were only there to observe humans, but… you got angry for me, right? Don’t you think that means we can keep moving from here?”
With that, Meryl went ‘Ah…’ and smiled.
“T-that’s right! We can’t stop here, huh? Hahaha! I was supposed to be the one leading, but you ended up encouraging me instead.”
“Don’t mention it. You’re my partner, after all.
Cheering Meryl up by calling her my partner caused her eyes to well up in tears of joy.
“Well, sometimes you end up being a useless goddess too, though…”
“That’s pretty harsh!”
Despite the sarcasm, we both laughed.
After buying equipment to increase Meryl’s defense, and spending the night at an inn, we stopped by the entrance to Fielin Forest.
“Alright, Meryl, are you prepared!”
“Totally!”
Seeing Meryl, who was smiling calmly, I smiled softly, then hardened my expression.
“Okay, let’s go!”
And then, we stepped into Fielin Forest…
