Even though I was supposed to attend a ball with Lord and Lady Tarch, the maids of the Tarch household were not at all surprised when I returned with a young man instead of the couple.
The maids who greeted us bowed politely to us.
"Welcome back, my lady."
After the head maid, the oldest among them, raised her head, she looked at me. Right, I need to explain the situation.
"Um, this is Lord Theodore, from the Bailey ducal family."
The head maid's eyes widened slightly. Of course, it would be troublesome if I brought the son of a duke without prior notice. I hurriedly continued.
"Ah, Lord Theodore's visit is known to my uncle and aunt. They told me to have a thorough discussion with him..."
I wouldn't want them to think I brought Lord Theodore here on my own. The head maid bowed deeply.
"Understood. I will immediately prepare a room for Lord Theodore."
As expected of the head maid of the Tarch household. She understands quickly!
The head maid guided us to the guest room.
"Please wait in this room until everything is prepared."
We sat on the sofas facing each other as instructed.
As soon as the head maid left the room, another maid brought tea and sandwiches.
"I thought you might not have eaten, so I prepared sandwiches."
Now that she mentions it, I hadn't even had a drink since we returned from the ball immediately after attending it.
Oh!? That's right, I didn't even get to dance, which I had been looking forward to! My uncle was supposed to dance with me...
But, it can't be helped. I don't regret my actions at all.
The sandwiches, which I ate with gratitude for the maid's consideration, were delicious. Glancing at Lord Theodore, I noticed he was drinking tea but hadn't touched the sandwiches.
"Lord Theodore, do you dislike sandwiches?"
Lord Theodore's well-defined eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"No, it's not that, but I'm not very hungry. I'm sorry."
"Oh, right. You just went through a lot."
Indeed, Lord Theodore has looked unwell for a while. I hope he can rest well at the Tarch estate.
When we finished our tea, the head maid reappeared in the guest room.
"I will show you to your room."
Lord Theodore stood up and bowed to me.
"Lady Cynthia, I'll take my leave first."
"Yes."
"Let's discuss things further tomorrow."
"Understood. Good night."
Upon hearing my words, Lord Theodore looked very surprised.
"Did I say something strange?"
"No, good night."
Lord Theodore's cheeks were slightly red.
Eh? Is "good night" not said in the capital? Could it be considered inappropriate to say it to a man!?
Someone, please teach me the common sense of the capital!
While I was thinking about this, the maids guided me to my room. The room was primarily white, with touches of light pink, making it elegant and very cute.
I learned that my aunt had specially prepared this room for me. When I first saw it, I was so captivated by its cuteness that I couldn't stop swooning.
After the maids helped me out of my dress, they assisted me with my bath. They gently removed my makeup and washed my body with care.
While we have maids in the Bargau territory, they are much more casual. It was always lively there, but here, no one speaks. However, the silence is comfortable, and their attentiveness is impeccable.
I hope Lord Theodore is resting well too.
By the way, Lord Theodore said, "See you tomorrow."
"See Lord Theodore again tomorrow..."
Not only that, if Lord Theodore really comes to the Bargau territory, I might be able to see him every day. That would be too wonderful.
I was so excited that I couldn't fall asleep even after getting into bed.
Next time, from Theodore's perspective.
