Turning on the tap, Megu gulped down a few large mouthfuls of water, then propped himself up on the edge of the sink and took a deep breath. Only then did he feel like he had come back to life. When he woke up, his mouth was incredibly dry, and the sweet crisp biscuit almost choked him to death. His throat still felt a bit sore.
If this had happened in his previous life, he would have written a thousand-word indictment to shut down the shop. Is this even fit for human consumption!
"Father, are you okay?" Amy, who had run over at some point, tugged at his sleeve, looking worried.
"Yes, Father is fine, just a bit choked," Megu quickly looked down at Amy, reached out to pat her hair, and smiled. The feeling of being cared for and relied upon made his heart warm, and his resentment towards the sweet crisp biscuit lessened.
Now, he was just an ordinary father, and he didn't want to go through all the things from his previous life again. He certainly didn't want to experience another reincarnation.
"Father, you should eat slowly. Although the sweet crisp biscuit is very tasty, you shouldn't rush. You should take small bites to avoid choking." Amy sighed in relief, then put on a serious face and lectured Megu.
"Yes, what you said is right, Amy." Megu looked into Amy's eyes and nodded seriously. Only then did the little girl return to her seat, satisfied.
Megu didn't rush out but instead took a look around the kitchen.
The kitchen was long and rectangular, about ten square meters, quite spacious. The stove had four built-in gas burners, a silver side-draft range hood, and a large cross-door refrigerator nearby.
This was a very professional modern kitchen, but most of the area was still empty. The knife rack only had one wide Chinese cleaver, and there were no pots, pans, or other utensils.
"System, did you forget to put the appliances and kitchenware in when you renovated? The refrigerator is also empty," Megu closed the empty refrigerator, and his idea of cooking something simple was dashed.
"The host does not yet have the authority to use those appliances. After completing tasks, they will be gradually unlocked. For now, only the ingredients for the recipes the host knows will be provided, and the host needs to purchase them to use them," the system's voice replied.
"To make me learn to cook, you really went to great lengths..." Megu was a bit taken aback and felt a bit helpless. It seemed he wouldn't be able to cook anything else today, and the system said that future ingredients would need to be purchased. Would the system directly provide the required ingredients?
After wandering around the kitchen and confirming there was nothing to eat, he poured two bowls of plain water and carried them out of the kitchen. It seemed completing tasks as soon as possible was very necessary; otherwise, having a mountain of gold would be useless if there was nowhere to spend it.
After eating that terrible-tasting sweet crisp biscuit, he was very much looking forward to Yangzhou Fried Rice. Whether it was to let Amy taste the delicious food from Earth or to conquer the world with a plate of Yangzhou Fried Rice, it would be an interesting thing to do.
Megu reviewed the memories of his previous life. In this world, due to the thousand-year racial war, human cuisine was somewhat similar to British cuisine, with simple and brutal cooking methods. Besides boiling, it was mostly roasting.
No seasonings were used during cooking; instead, people added salt and pepper according to their taste when eating. The main goal was to be full and nutritionally balanced, as there were no conditions to be picky during wartime.
Although there had been a hundred years of peace, the development of cuisine was limited. Chefs' thinking was rigid, and even though they tried to improve, the dishes remained simple, with few innovative cooking methods or dishes.
If humans who liked to study food were like this, other races were even worse. The elves' food was mostly natural, consisting of various wild fruits; the dwarves ate more casually, as long as it was cooked; and the demons and orcs even ate their prey raw...
"This is like a virgin land of cuisine, waiting for me to cultivate it." Megu pursed his lips and looked at Amy, who was happily munching on the sweet crisp biscuit, a gentle smile on his face. He wasn't particularly interested in spreading culinary culture, but he wanted his daughter to eat real delicious food and live a comfortable life. With this in mind, learning to cook wasn't something he couldn't accept.
Because he was really hungry, Megu could only soak the biscuit in plain water, waiting for it to soften before eating it, barely able to swallow it.
Amy's teeth were quite good, and she crunched through the biscuit loudly, finishing it quickly. She picked up the bowl and took a big gulp of water, then looked at Megu, who was still poking at the mush in his bowl, and said with a smile, "Father, isn't the sweet crisp biscuit super tasty?"
"No, it's just something that can barely fill your stomach, Amy. In the future, I'll make you a full Manhan Banquet, and you can eat until you're full," Megu shook his head, reached out to pinch Amy's tender little nose, and said with a smile.
"A Manhan Banquet? Is it really better than the sweet crisp biscuit?" Amy's eyes lit up, but looking at Megu, her face showed a bit of hesitation. The food Father made before tasted so strange. Could he really make something a hundred times better than the sweet crisp biscuit?
"Of course, and a Manhan Banquet isn't just one dish. It's a grand feast of 108 delicacies, which can last for three days," Megu nodded seriously, guessing the little girl's thoughts. In her mind, the sweet crisp biscuit was the best thing. And his cooking skills in his previous life were not to be praised, probably leaving a psychological shadow on the little girl.
"108 delicacies?" Amy counted on her fingers, trying hard to imagine a table full of dishes better than the sweet crisp biscuit, and the idea of eating for three days. Her eyes grew brighter, and a happy smile appeared on her face. She jumped off the chair and looked at Megu excitedly, "Yay! Amy wants to eat a Manhan Banquet. Father, make a Manhan Banquet for Amy! Amy wants to eat it now!"
"Um..." Megu looked at Amy's expectant eyes and felt a bit awkward. He couldn't even make a plate of Yangzhou Fried Rice. But he had a culinary god system, so a Manhan Banquet would definitely be no problem in the future. However, the little girl's immediate desire to eat it made him feel like he had spoken too soon.
"Of course, Father wants to make it for you, but our restaurant isn't open yet, and the kitchen has no ingredients. We can't make so many delicious dishes right now," Megu reached out to pat Amy's head, feeling a bit apologetic.
"Is that so..." Amy looked a bit disappointed but quickly looked up, grabbed Megu's hand, and patted his back, comforting him, "It's okay, Father. Amy thinks the food before was also very tasty. When Amy grows up, she can earn money and buy lots of delicious things for Father to make a Manhan Banquet."
Looking at Amy's serious expression, Megu felt a bit choked up, sniffed, and shook his head with a smile, "Father is different now. Earning money to support the family is my responsibility. I will definitely make a Manhan Banquet for you. It's our promise, and it's my commitment." He then extended his pinky finger to Amy.
Amy looked up at Megu, blinked, and felt that Father today was really different, seeming taller and more approachable. She also extended her pinky finger and hooked it with his, smiling happily, "Yes, Amy believes Father can definitely do it."
