The freshly cooked fried rice was still steaming, and the aroma of eggs mixed with green onions wafted over. Amy couldn't help but take a deep breath, her eyes shining as she looked at the fried rice in front of her.
Each grain of rice was coated in a golden layer of egg, as if they were glowing. Not only was it golden, but there were also green, red, and white colors mixed in. She couldn't help but swallow her saliva and looked up at Mag with curiosity, asking, "Father, did you pick a rainbow to cook?"
"Huh?" Mag, who had just sat down opposite her, was taken aback. Looking at the colorful fried rice in the plate, it did indeed look like a chopped-up rainbow. Childhood innocence was truly the most interesting thing. He smiled and nodded, "Yes, this is rainbow fried rice. Why don't you try it, Amy?"
"No, Father has to eat first, then Amy will eat." Amy shook her head and scooped up a large spoonful of fried rice, struggling to bring it to Mag.
"Amy, you eat first. Father isn't hungry. I'll make another one later." Mag smiled and shook his head.
"No, Father got up early to make breakfast for Amy, so you must be hungrier than Amy." Amy pouted, the spoon hovering in mid-air, trembling slightly due to her lack of strength, but she had no intention of pulling it back.
"Alright, I'll eat first." Mag smiled and ate the spoonful of rice. The fresh and fragrant fried rice went down, filling his heart with warmth. The little one had already secretly swallowed her saliva several times but insisted on letting him eat the first bite.
This feeling of being cared for was truly wonderful.
"Then Amy will start eating." Amy happily retrieved the spoon, scooped up another spoonful of fried rice, and said seriously to the rice, "I'm sorry, rainbow, I'm going to eat you."
Mag couldn't help but smile. The little girl's thoughts were so simple. He propped his chin on his hand, watching Amy with anticipation, feeling a bit nervous.
Although he thought this Yangzhou fried rice was incredibly delicious, it was a dish from Earth, completely different from the cooking style of this world. He wasn't sure if Amy would like it or if she would find it palatable.
As soon as Amy put the fried rice in her mouth, her eyes lit up. Her small, pointed ears, hidden under her silver hair, twitched. The soft rice wrapped in fragrant eggs, the tender shrimp, the salty ham, the sweet tree mushrooms, and the fresh bamboo shoots, all blended perfectly in one bite. The texture was so delicate, and the rich, sweet flavor melted in her mouth, making it indescribably delicious.
Compared to this fried rice, the sweet and crispy cookies, which she had always considered her favorite, seemed as unremarkable as stones. She probably wouldn't want to eat them anymore.
After one bite, she couldn't resist taking another, and then another, unable to stop. She felt this was the happiest moment of her life.
"Rainbow fried rice is so delicious, Father is so great..." Amy mumbled between bites, her eyes never leaving the plate. She lowered her head and continued to eat, not pausing for a moment.
"Slow down," Mag said, getting up to pour a glass of water and placing it beside her. Watching the little one's cute, pointed ears move, he smiled with satisfaction. Amy's reaction said it all; she was very satisfied with the fried rice. The tedious repetition of practice in the culinary god's space had been worth it. Just watching her eat made everything worthwhile.
"Maybe I'll soon fall in love with cooking," Mag thought to himself. Watching the little one eat was so satisfying, but she was eating so deliciously that he felt a bit hungry himself.
After finishing all the fried rice in the plate, Amy held the plate with both hands and licked it, not even missing the last shrimp at the bottom. She put down the plate and said expectantly, "Father, I want more. Amy wants to eat more rainbow fried rice. It's super delicious."
"More?" Mag was a bit surprised, looking at the empty plate. He had cooked it in an adult's portion, and the little one had finished it all, yet she still wanted more.
"Yes, Amy wants more," Amy nodded, her big eyes blinking, looking at Mag with anticipation. But then she glanced towards the kitchen, a bit hesitant, and said, "But Father hasn't eaten yet. Do we have enough rice? Amy can skip if needed."
"Of course we have enough rice. And since Father ate a big bite of Amy's fried rice, you must not be full. I'll cook another portion, and we'll eat together, okay?" Mag smiled and ruffled Amy's hair. The little one always thought of him, so considerate.
Recalling his memory, although Amy was only four years old, she could eat two bowls of rice in one meal, similar to an adult. It was natural that she wanted another bowl after tasting such delicious fried rice. However, it was early in the morning, and Mag didn't want her to overeat. He would give her a small bowl later.
"Okay, Father, you're so good at cooking today," Amy clapped her hands, her eyes full of admiration.
Mag got up, cleared the plates from the table, and prepared to go to the kitchen.
"Free use of ingredients has ended. From now on, all ingredients provided by the system must be purchased. Please refer to the following list of ingredient prices," the system's voice suddenly said.
"Purchase?" Mag was taken aback, suddenly remembering that the system mentioned something about gaining the right to purchase ingredients when he completed the task in the culinary god's trial. He had been so focused on the Yangzhou fried rice that he hadn't paid attention, assuming the ingredients were provided for free. He didn't expect he would have to buy them.
Focusing on the price list, Mag's eyes widened, "What the heck, system, did you get the prices wrong?"
"The prices are correctly marked," the system calmly replied.
"Fine, I can accept the large shrimp at 50 copper coins each, but you're selling green peas for 1 copper coin each... Are you trying to extort me?" Mag raised an eyebrow. The list clearly stated: Ingredients needed for one portion of Yangzhou fried rice
- Large shrimp: 50 copper coins each (2 needed)
- Eggs: 30 copper coins each (2 needed)
- Ham: 40 copper coins per piece
- Tree mushrooms: 30 copper coins each
- Bamboo shoots: 30 copper coins per piece
- Rice: 30 copper coins per bowl
- Green peas: 1 copper coin each (5 needed)
- Green onions: 1 copper coin each (1 needed)
- Total: 296 copper coins
"I could buy 296 sweet and crispy cookies with the price of these ingredients for one portion of Yangzhou fried rice!" Mag was speechless. Was this even allowing people to do business?
