Chapter 16

The entire orc camp was not very large, with only three orcs in each patrol team. They walked leisurely, not at all worried about being attacked; they merely circled the area every half hour or so. At this moment, the light from the bonfire gradually dimmed, making the surroundings even darker, while the orcs' robust figures remained conspicuous in the dim light.
As the three orcs slowly rounded the tents and came into view of the second team of scouts, Rody, as the commander, began to give low-voiced orders to the soldiers beside him.
"Shoot the one on the left."
"Shoot the one in the middle."
"You, the one on the right."
"Shoot the one on the left."
...
Six soldiers were assigned to aim at the three orcs, while Rody himself took two steps back, took a deep breath, and whispered, "Shoot when you hear my bowstring, then run immediately to the watchtower."
Immediately, the horn bow was drawn to a full moon, and the long arrow aimed at the sentry on the watchtower.
"Hum—"
The horn bow, equipped with a silencer, made only a barely noticeable muffled sound in the darkness—this was the result of Rody's adjustments to the bow's dampers. Compared to the explosive tearing sound of the orcs' bows, this horn bow was almost silent!
The arrow streaked through the dark night sky.
"Pu!"
His arrow instantly pierced the head of the orc sentry, the sound of the arrowhead penetrating the skull masked by the crackling of the bonfire. The sentry didn't even have time to scream before he died, and the sound of his body falling didn't even reach the trench.
At the same time, six arrows were already flying towards the three patrolling orcs, 17 meters away! Although the scouts' short bows were not as powerful as Rody's horn bow, at such close range, they still inflicted severe injuries on the orcs—two orcs were instantly shot down, but one, whose arrow missed, let out a roar of terror, hesitated for two seconds, and then raised his weapon to charge over.
In the next moment, he was pierced through the throat by Rody's follow-up arrow.
Putting down his horn bow, Rody no longer suppressed his voice and shouted, "Follow me!"
In the next moment, he led the charge towards the distant watchtower, with the six scouts running in默契 behind him. When Rody reached the orcs, he delivered two more slashes to the two orcs whose fates were unknown, then led the scouts over their bodies, sprinting towards the 10-meter-high watchtower!
The bonfire stretched the shadows of these scouts, who were experiencing their first ambush, as the orc camp entered a state of alert from the brief shout. The young scouts felt their hearts almost leap out of their chests, as they could see many figures moving around the tents...
"Quick! Charge up!"
Rody patted Carter's back, signaling all the scouts to climb the wooden ladder to the watchtower, while he himself moved from the lead to the rear. More and more orcs emerged from the tents, and Rody, holding his horn bow, raised it without hesitation and shot an arrow into the eye socket of an orc 15 meters away. As he reached for the next arrow, he stepped onto the wooden watchtower, took three steps, and turned to shoot another arrow!
"Pu!"
An orc running towards the weapon rack to grab a horn bow was shot through the back and fell to the ground.
In theory, the same arrow, if it hit a non-vital area, would require three to four shots from Rody's horn bow to kill an orc of the current level. However, Rody's cheat-like precise archery skills ensured that each arrow caused critical damage, instantly killing the target!
At this stage, unless he faced an enemy with unbreakable defenses, Rody's offensive power was overwhelmingly dominant. However, this did not mean he was invincible. More and more enemies emerged from the camp, and although Carter and the others on the watchtower began suppressing fire, it was clear that seven people could not stop the orcs' advance with just arrows. After reaching the top of the watchtower, Rody shot three arrows, killing two orcs trying to approach the tower, but he was anxiously waiting for Lug's actions.
Finally, just as the orcs were trying to charge up the watchtower despite the continuous arrows, a series of fiery red arrows suddenly flew from the other end of the camp!
The burning arrows all flew towards the flammable tents, and three batches of flaming arrows covered almost all the tents on the east side of the camp. In less than half a minute, the fire became uncontrollable. The orcs running out of the tents were stunned, and a leader-like orc roared orders, but before he could finish, he was sniped by Rody...
This shot was the most critical in the entire battle—without a leader, chaos began to spread in the orc camp.
In the next five minutes, the scouts on the watchtower began suppressing fire without any pressure. The orcs' hesitation left them unsure whether to put out the fire or charge the watchtower under the rain of arrows—because the six bodies with arrows in their heads clearly told them there was a formidable opponent on the tower.
This situation proved that Rody's plan had succeeded.
After the third batch of flaming arrows, Rody turned and shouted to Carter, "Everyone! Down the tower, charge!"
His order was immediately followed, and the first squad, which had circled 60 meters away and was now charging from another direction, perfectly executed his previous instructions—
At this moment, all the orcs were stunned, as they thought they were surrounded by humans!
In the darkness, they could not see how many people were outside their camp, and the only thing they knew was that people around them were constantly being shot down. As the soldiers on the watchtower charged down, the orcs, without engaging in direct combat, began to retreat in disarray!
They had underestimated the number of humans and lost their leader in the first moment, and these consecutive blows left the orcs without any will to resist, causing them to scatter...
At this moment, they were far from their usual formidable combat strength. Veteran Lug had already pierced an orc's throat with his sword—due to panic and fear, the orc had no fighting spirit and was killed before he could even resist!
The exhilaration in his heart was overwhelming, and Lug was so excited that he almost wanted to shout. He had never thought that war could be fought like this... always taking the initiative, winning with fewer numbers, and causing the enemy to collapse upon first contact in the darkness...
There was no more contempt for Rody; at this moment, he was thoroughly convinced of Rody's abilities!
Twisting his body to dodge, he swung his sword, and another orc's head flew into the air, blood splattering as Lug roared to boost the morale of his team. He then turned his head and caught sight of Rody, who was coordinating the encirclement from a distance—Rody was just lifting his curved sword.
Only now did Lug deeply understand what kind of person he had provoked. If past battles had taught him how formidable the orcs were, then Rody had shown him that humans could also deal with orcs in this way!
Facing the human scouts charging down from the watchtower, the orcs put up only the most basic resistance. The orc at the front swung his wooden club, but the human in front of him suddenly fell backward, narrowly avoiding the club.
In the next moment, as the orc raised his arm to attack, the human performed a somersault, rising to deliver a double-sword strike to the orc's collarbone!
"Crack!"
The sound of metal and bone colliding rang out, but Rody's strength was not enough to completely sever the orc's arms. So he changed his move, kicking the orc's chest with his leg, using the momentum to land a backflip, and then spinning around with his swords, splashing blood, and swinging them with great force at the orc again!
The orc, with injured arms, tried to block with his curved sword but found that Rody's first strike broke his defense, and the second strike immediately cut into his neck!
The severed artery and half-detached head caused the orc to spurt a column of blood over a meter high from his neck...
This was the power of dual-wielding weapons, a relentless offensive that was far more fierce and brutal than two-handed weapons or sword and shield combinations. Even a strength-based enemy like the orcs could not adapt and resist in a short time. Rody's dominance further fueled the fighting spirit of his comrades, who charged at the panicked enemies, joining Lug and the others in the final encirclement of the remaining dozen or so orcs in the camp.
Although the 14 scouts outnumbered the remaining 11 or 12 orcs, Rody did not dare to be careless. Even as the most powerful fighter in the team, he knew he could not face more than two orcs at once.
Victory was not yet secure, so Rody immediately shouted to Lug and Carter, "Clear that exit, force them back!"
The strategy of leaving one side open would never go out of style. With the camp surrounded by fire, the orcs would have little fighting spirit left. Lug, who had already killed three orcs, immediately moved aside, clearing the largest exit from the camp. As Rody had predicted, the orcs, under the encirclement, retreated and, after he used his dual swords to decapitate an injured orc, began to flee in disarray!
Was this victory?
The human soldiers in the camp, panting heavily, watched the orcs fleeing into the distance, seemingly unable to believe the reality. However, when they reacted and wanted to pursue, they heard Rody's loud command to stop.
"Immediately clean up the battlefield and withdraw!"
Rody raised his hand and slashed the orc beside him, who was still breathing, and shouted to Lug, "We must leave here in five minutes, return to our horses, and no one is to stay behind!"
"Understood!"
Lug loudly responded to his order and quickly called a few soldiers to clean up the battlefield. The subsequent tally surprised even the veteran Lug—no scouts had died in the entire battle, and only three had minor injuries.
He knew very well that almost all the credit for this outcome went to Rody. If it weren't for the fire attack and the suppression from the watchtower, if it weren't for his precise archery, and if it weren't for his strategic planning, the orcs would not have been defeated so easily.
Rody, however, understood that the current result was the best they could achieve at this stage—honestly, the eight orcs who escaped would have no chance of victory unless he had the opportunity to snipe them one by one. He knew the principle of not pursuing a defeated enemy, but the most important thing now was to secure the spoils of war.
Fortunately, these scouts were not profit-driven players. The orc bodies on the ground were being searched by the soldiers for spoils, but Rody knew that the truly valuable items would not be carried on their bodies.
A tent that was mostly burned collapsed, and Rody hurriedly ran over, pulling aside the still burning fabric, and began searching the ashes for what he wanted—orc leaders had a habit of keeping valuable items under their beds, even if their beds were simple wooden planks or piles of soft straw on the ground.
Soon, Rody found the charred bed in the largest tent. He kicked it open and, as expected, found a wooden box under the bed. With a "crack," his curved sword split the simple lock, and he saw the first substantial spoils he had gained since his "rebirth."
