Chapter 37 of 100

Chapter 37

5 min read1,165 words

Getting into the car driven by Lutz, we set off.

Soon, we could see a raging fire in the distance.

At the same time, we could see many onlookers and soldiers trying to control them.

"The fire is quite big, isn't it?"

Leonor, sitting in the backseat next to Erika, muttered.

"It's because of the Tuesday stone... They should have managed it properly."

There are tools to prevent it from burning.

"It's definitely a management error. But why did the fire start... Careless smoking?"

"Would a cigarette cause such a big fire? It must be an accident or arson. Well, that's Lutz's job."

As we were talking, the burning warehouse came into clear view.

Lutz parked the car a little distance away.

When we got out of the car, we could see soldiers and firefighters moving busily around, using hoses from fire hydrants and bucket relays to extinguish the fire.

"It's like pouring water on a stone that's already burning. What about the mages?"

"They haven't arrived yet. We need to make an emergency request, but at this hour, there's no one at the association, so it will take time to contact them."

It's a day off tomorrow, after all.

"Lutz!"

As we were looking around, a man in his 30s wearing the same uniform as Lutz ran over to us.

"Captain! I've brought someone from the Alchemists' Association!"

Lutz saluted the man who seemed to be his superior.

"Yes! But can it really be done? It's that branch, right?"

Which branch?

"Sir Sieg is a 5th-class national mage. It will take time for other mages to arrive, so let's ask Sir Sieg."

"I see... Sir Sieg, this isn't really within the jurisdiction of the Alchemists' Association, but I would like to ask for your help."

The captain bowed slightly.

"It's for the town, so it doesn't matter. It's only natural as a resident of this town."

Saying that, he glanced at Helen, who nodded with a satisfied look.

"I'm sorry... As you can see, the fire is quite intense. It's because of the Tuesday stone."

As the captain said, it wasn't just a fire; it was raging.

"I heard there's Tuesday stone in the adjacent warehouse too?"

Looking at the neighboring warehouse, it hadn't caught fire yet, but it was only a matter of time given the intensity of the fire.

"Yes. Ideally, we would move the Tuesday stone inside, but in this situation, that would be dangerous."

If a spark flew while they were moving it, it would ignite.

"I understand. Let's put out the fire before it spreads to the neighboring warehouse."

"Can you do it? I want you to buy us some time to prevent it from spreading..."

Taking our time...

"Let's put it out immediately. However, there's something I need you to understand."

"What is it?"

"All the magical tools in the warehouse will be destroyed. Is that acceptable?"

"What do you mean? No, we don't have time for such questions... It will burn anyway, so it's not a problem. The priority is to put out the fire."

Of course.

But if I don't get a statement, I don't know what the warehouse manager might say later.

There are a lot of fools in this world.

"Then, let's put it out."

Saying that, I approached the burning warehouse.

It was hot from the flames, and I was afraid of the flying embers, so I used a defensive spell and made it to the front of the warehouse.

"What are you going to do?"

"Isn't it hot?"

Looking back, I saw Erika and Leonora had followed me.

For a moment, I thought about telling them to go back to the car, but I decided against it, thinking it would be better for the branch's reputation if they were nearby.

"First, I'll cast a defensive spell on you two."

I cast a fire-resistant spell on the two of them.

"It's not hot anymore!"

"Amazing!"

A 5th-class mage can do this much.

"The firefighters are working hard, but the reason the fire isn't going out is because of the Tuesday stone. It's not that easy to extinguish."

"It's used in stoves, bathrooms, and even camping, right?"

The Tuesday stone is used in various places.

"What are you going to do?"

Leonor asked.

"It's simple. The Tuesday stone is just a type of magic stone. It's essentially a stone imbued with magic. So, we just need to remove the magic."

I took out my staff from a spatial magic pocket.

The staff was adorned with gold and had a dragon carved at the tip.

It was very tacky, and I didn't want to use it, but it was given to me by my master, the head of the headquarters, when I passed the 10th-class national mage exam, so I had no choice.

"Watch this... Dispel!"

When I cast the spell at the warehouse, I felt something pop.

Then, the intensity of the fire visibly decreased.

"Huh? The flames are weakening?"

"Dispel... It's an advanced spell that removes magic... A 5th-class mage can't use it."

I'm just intentionally stopping at 5th-class.

"This is nothing."

Well, it's a spell that alchemists dislike because it destroys the magical tools they create, which is why I got a statement from the captain.

"Amazing!"

"Sure enough, you're our master!"

You're a bit overbearing, though.

"Alright, let's put out the remaining fire."

Saying that, I raised my staff.

Then, water vapor from the air gathered above the burning warehouse, forming a mass of water.

The mass gradually grew larger, soon becoming a sphere much bigger than the warehouse.

"Water... What should I name it?"

"Since it's a sphere, how about Water Ball?"

That works.

"Water Ball!"

Adopting Leonora's suggestion, I cast the spell, and the water sphere fell onto the warehouse, extinguishing the fire.

However, the fire was still not completely out, though its intensity had significantly decreased.

"One more time."

I gathered water vapor from the air again, forming a large water sphere.

"Water Ball!"

Casting the spell again, the water sphere fell onto the warehouse, completely extinguishing the fire.

There was still smoke, but it was enough.

"Alright, it's done. Let's go back."

"Amazing!"

"Sieg, you can do anything!"

The two of them clapped for me.

"It's nothing. This is easy."

Saying that, I returned to Lutz and the captain with the two of them.

"Are you really an alchemist?"

The captain asked, looking incredulous.

"That's my main job, and I'm better at it. I'll leave the rest to you. Lutz, take me back to the branch."

"A, ah..."

We returned to the car with Lutz and left the scene.

Then, we returned to the branch, and after that, I went home, dismissed the others, took a bath, and went to bed.
