"Damn father... I’ve really been through a lot."
To avoid any complications if my face were to be recognized, I left the city where the Edvane family’s mansion is located and came to the neighboring city of Rondalme by carriage.
Although I haven’t left the Edvane earldom, my face isn’t particularly well-known in the neighboring city.
It takes time and effort to travel far by carriage. For now, I’ll have to make this city my base.
I was sitting on the bed of the inn I had taken in the city. I’ve really been through a lot. If I hadn’t regained my memories from my previous life, I might never have been able to recover.
However, to be honest, I didn’t want to live the life of a noble even with the memories of my past life. The nobles in this world have a lot of power, but that’s because they bear the responsibilities of the strong. I would be much more at ease living a life of travel.
"Since I’ve finally entered the world of 'Magic World,' I have to enjoy it to the fullest."
However, the settings of the game and the history and culture of this world are completely different. The names of countries and places don’t match at all, and the cultures are quite different. I’ll need to investigate these aspects gradually.
...But before that, I need to verify my class and skills. This is what I’m most looking forward to. However, if the system has changed, it could be a significant setback. If the overpowered abilities of a heavy knight were removed in an update without my knowledge, it would be a serious problem. As the next head of a noble family, I couldn’t afford to act in ways that couldn’t be explained to others.
"There’s plenty to do. Well, this is just perfect."
Moreover, I didn’t expect my father to be such a person. No, with the broader perspective I gained from regaining my memories from my past life, I can now recognize him as a selfish man who makes unreasonable demands and is strict with others but lenient with himself. Perhaps it’s because there’s no one in the Edvane family who can speak up to the head of the household.
Even Maris, who I knew was eccentric, wasn’t supposed to be like that. He was mocking me. Perhaps I had done something to earn his enmity, though I don’t remember it.
But if they want me to leave, I’ll leave. It’s a good thing I have an excuse to get out of that place.
I looked out the window and sighed.
"Goodbye, Mother, Father."
Of course, I can’t help but feel conflicted. He was still my father in this life. But now, I have to move forward. If I just wallow in self-pity, I’ll end up dying in the wilderness.
I slapped my cheek.
"Alright, time to stop moping! I have to become a thousand times stronger than that damn father and show him."
After all, I have the knowledge as my weapon.
"Status"
In response to my words, a light projected my information into the air.
――――――――――――――――――――
【Elma Edvane】
Class: Heavy Knight
Lv: 1
HP: 10/10
MP: 4/4
Attack: 3+5
Defense: 3+5
Magic: 5
Speed: 3
【Equipment】
〈Common Soldier’s Sword〉
〈Iron Armor〉
【Special Skills】
〈None〉
【Normal Skills】
〈None〉
【Titles】
〈None〉
――――――――――――――――――――
I rechecked my status. The 〈Common Soldier’s Sword〉 and 〈Iron Armor〉 are something I picked up on the way to the inn. They’re just enough to make a decent appearance.
I can’t handle weapons that are much stronger than my current status, as they are too heavy. For now, this is my limit. They won’t be useful for long, but for now, they’re fine. I can easily level up with the right equipment, so there’s no need to be stingy.
I touched the 〈Status〉.
"Skill tree screen..."
There’s another screen in the 〈Status〉. It’s the skill tree screen.
――――――――――――――――――――
【Skill Tree】
[Remaining Skill Points: 5]
〈Oath of Heavy Armor [0/100]〉
〈Defense Boost [0/50]〉
〈Basic Swordsmanship [0/50]〉
――――――――――――――――――――
In short, this is where you choose which skills to acquire in different fields. You allocate skill points to each skill tree and gain the corresponding skills.
The [Remaining Skill Points: 5] are the initial bonus points you get when you acquire a class. You gain one more point for each level you gain. How you allocate these points can make or break your fate.
There are two types of skill trees: those fixed to your class and those randomly obtained during character creation. The only fixed one here is 〈Oath of Heavy Armor〉.
〈Oath of Heavy Armor〉 is a skill tree exclusive to heavy knights. It was once considered the weakest gimmick skill tree. While it can be quite strong if you get the right skills, it’s generally difficult to handle and often has no practical use.
〈Defense Boost〉 is a fairly useful skill tree. It doesn’t grant any specific skills but significantly boosts your defense. 〈Basic Swordsmanship〉 isn’t bad either. If you max it out, you can use special items to evolve it into a higher-level swordsmanship skill tree. Both are highly practical.
"Well, I’ll do it like this."
I touched the 〈Status〉 to operate it.
――――――――――――――――――――
【Skill Tree】
[Remaining Skill Points: 0]
〈Oath of Heavy Armor [5/100]〉【+5】
〈Defense Boost [0/50]〉
〈Basic Swordsmanship [0/50]〉
――――――――――――――――――――
〈Oath of Heavy Armor〉 was considered the weakest gimmick skill tree in the early days of ‘Magic World.’ However, it has been proven to be the strongest skill tree after thorough testing.
It takes at least level 96 to max out the skill tree. I don’t have the luxury to allocate points to trivial status boosts or inferior skill trees from other classes like 〈Basic Swordsmanship〉.
【You have obtained the normal skill 〈Wall Return〉 as 〈Oath of Heavy Armor〉 reached [2/100].】
【You have obtained 〈Defense: +10〉 as 〈Oath of Heavy Armor〉 reached [5/100].】
There it is.
I smiled.
――――――――――――――――――――
〈Wall Return〉【Normal Skill】
If you completely block a direct melee attack and nullify the damage, you can deal damage to the attacker based on your defense.
――――――――――――――――――――
Nullifying damage means that your defense is higher than the attack, and you don’t take any damage.
In ‘Magic World,’ the damage formula is basically 【〈Damage〉 = 〈Attack〉 - 〈Defense〉 / 2】. Of course, it can vary depending on the hit location and other factors.
In short, achieving a complete block is difficult and only works against weaker opponents. However, the defense boost I gained from 〈Oath of Heavy Armor〉 will come in handy here.
The +10 defense at the initial level is significant. If I equip proper armor, low-level monsters with no good attack skills won’t be able to break through. Thus, any low-level monsters that recklessly attack will be repelled by the heavy knight’s defense. Some monsters might break through depending on the situation, but I know the general stats of the monsters. If I see a suspicious one, I can just avoid the fight.
"Well, I’m looking forward to tomorrow."
