Yu Qingluo poisoned him
“Lord, Peng Ying has woken up.” Shen Ying’s face was filled with uncontrollable joy and relief.
Ye Xiudu’s expression softened. The corner of his lips relaxed and he spoke in a light voice: “That woman, she truly is that skilled.”
“Yes! Miss Yu is really amazing, right?” Shen Ying’s words were filled with adoration and trust towards Yu Qingluo as if he was ready to start worshipping her. (TL: We got our first fanboy, hehe).
“Peng Ying’s wounds had suddenly started to worsen in the middle of the night, but as soon as miss Yu moved her small knife once, she fixed him right away, that technique of hers was really dazzling. I don’t think that Wu Dong would be capable of such a feat. Moreover, the medicine she gave to Peng Ying really improved his complexion a lot. The blackish hue from his skin is all gone as well. I believe that she’ll be able to make the antidote soon enough and Peng Ying will get better in no time.”
Ye Xiudu was taken aback, it turns out that the woman was surnamed Yu.
“Lord, I don’t think that Miss Yu is a bad person. Otherwise, she wouldn’t put so much effort into treating Peng Ying. Maybe she really broke into the Mo residence just by accident. The most important thing is that… she is so skilful, Lord, you see…”
“Have you checked her identity? ” Ye Xiudu looked at him and asked.
“That, not yet.” Shen Ying coughed and gave an awkward laugh. “But Wen Tian went to check it out. So, there’ll be news really soon.”
In this regard, Wen Tian was a specialist.
“If that’s the case, then wait until her background is clear.”
Shen Ying sighed inwardly, right now his head was entirely filled with Yu Qingluo’s amazing talent. She’s skilled in medicine, good looking and, the most important thing, she’s not as arrogant as Wu Dong.
Using his 20 years of life experience in judging others, he could see that Yu Qingluo was a righteous person, without a single treacherous bone in her body.
“You have been taking care of Peng Ying for the entire day, you should take a rest.”
Shen Ying nodded, wiping the sweat from his haggard face as he turned around to return to his courtyard and get some sleep.
As soon as he left, Ye Xiudu’s gaze shifted towards a pillar not far away. Silently, he went back to recover the box Wen Tian had given him yesterday.
It was something Wen Tian took from the killers that his mother sent after him. This box was still sealed close and looked like a well-crafted piece, with a single keyhole in the front.
Observing it for a moment, he moved to put it back when he heard more footsteps approaching outside. Wu Dong’s voice sounded: “Lord.”
“Come in.”
Wu Dong carried her medicine box inside, taking a deep breath before walking with resolute steps.
“Lord, I am here to change your bandages.” By the way… I heard Shen Ying’s words from before.
She didn’t expect that the woman surnamed Yu that had barely arrived a day before would be held in such high regards by Shen Ying. Listening to what the Lord’s words entailed, it seems that he also was quite appreciative of her skills. If they determine that she bears no ill intentions towards them, she was afraid that…
If things come to such, would there be a place for her, Wu Dong, inside the Mo residence?
No, she absolutely cannot let such a thing happen. She has to stop this Yu woman from entering the Mo Residence and staying by the Lord’s side for good. Could she heal Peng Ying? She really wanted to see if he would actually be able to survive that.
Ye Xiudu lightly tapped his fingers on the top of the table. Glancing at the medicine box in her hand he stood up and said: “I have already changed my bandages myself, you can go back.”
Wu Dong’s eyes widened in surprise, her body growing still. “Lord, your injury is very serious, if you keep bandaging by yourself you could end up opening it up again, and will…”
“The wound didn’t open. You can return.” Ye Xiudu already turned his back on her, apparently unwilling to continue this conversation.
Wu Dong’s face turned unsightly. The Lord never wanted women approaching his body*. Ever since she started following him she has never seen him as badly injured as he was yesterday. So yesterday was exactly her first chance of getting close to him.
(TL: Mommy issues, rly. but I don’t blame him)
She thought that the next time he needed to change his bandages she would have a chance to approach him, but didn’t expect that he would do it all on his own. Then, what was her use as the disciple of the Elder Doctor of Qiongshan in the Mo residence?
Wu Dong was unwilling but didn’t say anything else. She could only bite her lips and leave the room stiffly.
Ye Xiudu covered his chest with a hand and stood up indifferently.
The sun stood at its peak, he had stayed for the whole morning inside his study after instructing the guards to prepare for the journey to the Imperial Capital soon.
But no one would have thought that the moment he decided to walk out of the door the housekeeper [1] of the house would rush over with an anxious expression. “Lord, something has occurred.”
Ye Xiudu frowned “What’s going on?”
“Master Peng… his situation is not good. it seems that he was given another poison by that Miss of surname Yu, yesterday.”
Another poison?
Ye Xiudu’s face transformed, stepping down the stairs from the study room he asked solemnly: “What’s going on?”
“Your servant doesn’t know. Master Peng suddenly started to spit dark blood and his face turned into a dark hue. The maid who was looking after him rushed to find this servant and was terrified. When this servant rushed over, he happened to run into Wu Dong and Master Wen on the way over, she took Master Peng’s pulse and stated that this was an even more complicated poison. If there wasn’t an antidote in half an hour, then…”
The housekeeper’s face was coated in sweat, as he had run over, even now his breathing has yet stabilized. “Master Ye was furious and asked that maid what was going on. She replied that this morning he was fine, but after taking Miss Yu’s concoction in the afternoon, he became like that.”
Ye Xiudu’s face twisted in anger. He turned around and strode towards Peng Ying’s courtyard.
Yu Qingluo poisoned him?
Ye Xiudu sneered, he didn’t think that woman would be this stupid. Daring to act upon Peng Ying inside of the Mo residence. If this was the case, then the situation was serious enough for them to take action.
The housekeeper was taken aback, hurriedly following his steps.
Halfway through, they happened to run into Shen Ying who had rushed over after hearing the news. None of the three spoke, but their footsteps became faster.
“Peng Ying was being treated by you. Now that something has happened how can it be unrelated to you?”
Before they walked inside they heard Wen Tian’s voice filled with fury. Obviously the target of his fury… was Yu Qingluo.
Shen Ying’s brows twisted, glancing with the corner of his eyes at Ye Xiudu’s face that was expressionless at this time and hadn’t said anything as well.
However, he didn’t believe that Yu Qingluo would do such a thing, not to mention that she had no spats with Peng Ying. And even if she did want him to die, then all she had to do was not save him at all. There was no need to choose this moment to act against him. Because doing so would mean digging her own grave.
The reason why Wen Tian who had always been so calm turned so furious must be because his mind was thrown into disarray.

[1] – 管家 (Guǎnjiā) is translated as ‘butler’ by many translators. However, I’ll change it to ‘Housekeeper’ as his functions are actually very different from a western butler. The housekeeper manages all the ins and out of a residence, and he helps the master of the house to control and manage all his servants. Some of them even take care of the accounting and expenses (and they are overseen by the house Mistress, can be a mother or a wife… even a daughter if she is recognized as such).
