“Mother, should we give him a hand?”
Sitting on a beam were a small and a big figure, in the left was a small boy with a face filled with distress. He stared at the two men fighting below with his eyes actively following their moves. His cheeks were inflated almost like two small buns.
“I think we should go outside, to see injustice happening requires one to raise their knives for the sake of justice. Although today I’m only 5, the blood inside me still boils at this scene, yup, I should help!” The little boy started to stroke his chin and talk to himself as he continued to observe the fight below.
“But I’m worried that the other party seems to be too strong, even I might be unable to help after all? En, this is a serious problem, hm, a very serious problem.”
After speaking, he switched the hand holding his chin, looking at the heated exchange between the two parts below, blinking his eyes. The pair of dark long lashes flickered vividly as if they had a life of their own.
All of sudden the child’s whole body went stiff, twisting his head to look at his silent mother. His semblance grew dark: “Mother, you didn’t pay attention to my words at all again. Did you know that this attitude of yours is not polite at all? When you’re like… Mother, your cute, kind-hearted, and beautiful son is to your left, so why are you looking to your right?”
The boy had briefly raised his voice, finally pulling back the attention of the absent-minded woman to himself.
Yu Qingluo stared blankly, looking in a flabbergasted manner at her son, doubtfully asking “Nannan, what did you just say?”
Nannan angrily glared at her with his cheeks bulging, that instant, contrary to expectations, he struck an attitude as if he didn’t want to acknowledge her at all.
Yu Qingluo didn’t care about that either, her eyes turned again towards the restaurant in the corner, looking at the tall and slender shadow on the upper floor, her eyes squinting slightly.
Since that matter from 6 years ago… she hasn’t seen anyone from the Yu Household. So she couldn’t imagine that today she would unexpectedly see Yu Zuolin once again inside a small restaurant.
Yu Qingluo’s mouth curved into a cold smile, looking at him she thought about the way the Yu household treated her 6 years ago.
No, that’s not right. It’s not correct to say that it was HER, but the real Yu Qingluo. the previous aloof woman that was bullied in a hundred ways by the Yu family and had such a premature death in an ancestral temple while giving birth. At that time, she was also being sieged by a group of assassins hired by Yu Zuolin.
But it seems that without the original Yu Qingluo’s nanny Ge momo[1], who rescued her covertly from the firewood room, hid her and helped to care for her, Nannan wouldn’t be able to be born.
It’s a pity that, although the little guy was born safely, the real Yu Qingluo died due to complications during birth.
Ultimately letting her, the modern times crafty (ghost)[2] doctor with an eccentric and unreasonable personality to possess her body. Putting together her last breath to give birth to Nannan.
This crossing over ended up with the birth of the child, but it was also rather bitter.
“Mother, then you tell me, should I help him or not?” Nannan finally couldn’t bear it as he saw his mother go silent again. So he started once more posing his wordy questions.
Yu Qingluo put away her hatred for Yu Zuolin and the will to rip him into shreds and turned to see what Nannan was looking at.
Only then she saw the empty area in the centre of the restaurant where two men, a thinner one and a sturdy one fought vigorously, the surrounding crowd had a mix of those who were excitedly watching and those watching with fear, as they dodged to the sides to keep watching. But not a single person dared to take a step forward to put an end to the fight.
After silently watching the two, she turned her head towards her son who was excitedly watching the dispute, and asked smilingly: ” Which one do you want to go give a hand to?”
“The one in white.” with bright eyes Nannan immediately pointed at the thin and somewhat handsome lad while rubbing his hands.
Yu Qingluo’s brows jumped wide, and with a soft ‘hum’, said: “The lad in white is stronger, he doesn’t really need you to act.”
“Ay? So is he somewhat strong? ” Nannan looked worried, his brows were knitting distressedly as he grew unhappy. The next second he became excited again “Doesn’t that mean I could prescribe the white lad some poison, then I can go save him and take the instance of a benefactor, this way wouldn’t he be very grateful towards me?”
Yu Qingluo’s lips twitched, using an extremely weird expression to look at him, a while later her hand touching his forehead. With a sigh, she voiced: “Nannan, this kind of despicable and shameless method, who taught you?”
“It was obviously you, Mother.” Nannan replied with full conviction.
Yu Qingluo narrowed her eyes dangerously at him: “Who did you say?”
“…that, that father of mine who raised me without properly teaching before passing…” Nannan saw his mother’s fierce expression and went weak. Every time, every single time his mother acts this way with an expression like ‘your lunch and dinner, I think you don’t need them anymore, right?’ towards himself, he feels afraid of her.
“I am your mother, not your father” Yu Qingluo held out her hand pinching his soft and white little cheeks while clicking her tongue.
Nannan withdrew his head, his small body turning around to carefully use his nimble hand and feet to hug the pillar and start some soundless crying. It’s obvious that Mother wants to make clear every day that she is the one supporting him, both as his father and mother. Raising a child with great difficulties. But how come just now she didn’t recognize it at all?
Yu Qingluo weakly patted her forehead, in the beginning, she planned to raise her son as a righteous, kind and brave 5-year-old youngster, but how come he turned out to look nothing like that?
She let out a soundless sigh. Turning her head to see Nannan’s back facing her, his shoulders trembled as he pretended to weep, she had an urge to kick him downstairs.
However, something flashed in the corner of her eyes, she saw Yu Zuolin, who was in the restaurant in the corner, was already putting a bag full of silvers on the table and getting up to leave.
Yu Qingluo’s browns went tight, there’s not enough time to say too much. She raised a hand to pat on Nannan’s shoulders, lowered her voice and explained briefly: “You stay here obediently and I’ll be right back, Mother has some business to solve.”
After speaking, without waiting for Nannan’s answer she nimbly climbed the eaves and soon went towards the now empty corner below, chasing after Yu Zuolin’s shadow.
Nannan stood silly in his place, blinking his round eyes as he could only see his mother gradually disappear from his sight.
Then, he once again supported his chin in his hand and said with a bitter expression “Mother wanted to go and just went but didn’t even give me a straight answer, right? After all, do I help him or not? Ay, mom is so unreliable, it would be great if we could find grandma Ge soon.”
After finishing speaking, his attention went once again to the scene below. The two men were still in close struggle, but the situation was actually just like Yu Qingluo’s previously observed, it appeared that the winds were blowing favourably towards the lad dressed in white.
Nannan watched for a bit longer before nodding and finally making a big decision.

Translator’s Notes
[1] -(嬷嬷) (Māmā or Mómo) – it’s a way to address a wet nurse. Like a title received from the position they work in (Just like in “Manager Lee” where they put the position, ‘Manager’ along with hi surname ‘Lee’). Here she speaks about Wet Nurse Ge, where Ge (葛) is her surname.
[2] – 鬼 (Guǐ) – it is translated in this novel, mainly as ‘Ghost’. Like in ‘Ghost Doctor’. But this word can be used with different meanings, such as ‘sly, crafty, devious’… And because of Yu Qingluo’s (transmigrated) personality being such, she was called a Ghost doctor by her close friends. Not only because of her godly skills but mainly because of her eccentric character.
