To have an affair
No. No. No…. except for this word ‘no’, could he even say anything else?
“Then, what do you mean?”
“What was our original agreement like?” Ye Xiudu rarely had such patience.
Yu Qingluo gave it a thought, repeating the housekeeper’s words to her over and over. “’As long as Peng Ying lives for another day, the 15 million would be paid in full…‘ are you playing word games with me?”
‘Lives for another day’, what a good wording: ‘safe and sound’[1]. (TL: Read the notes for details, but basically he used an idiom that can have multiple meanings. She interpreted it in the first way ‘Lives for another day’, but he meant the second way ‘safe and sound’)
Ye Xiudu turned sideways, assuming a more comfortable position. However, this movement coincidentally ended up pressing directly on his wound. He didn’t feel much about it though, just a slight discomfort almost as if he was already used to the pain. With that slightest effort, a reddish stain began to show through his white robes dyeing them red. This growing stain was capable of making onlookers astonished.
Yu Qingluo felt incredulous but she turned her head silently, pretending not to see any of it.
“Yes, safe and sound, therefore, when Peng Ying is completely cured, you’ll get the 15 million taels in your hands, otherwise…”
Yu Qingluo gave a cold snort: “So, I have to wait until he is completely healed before I can ask you for the money.” Saying that she decided to get up once again and leave.
But a lingering voice sounded again behind her: “I’m afraid that at that time I won’t be alive anymore to pay you up. After all, I have been getting worse and Wu Dong was also driven out because of you. So, there’s no one in this house capable of treating me…”
Yu Qingluo’s hands clenched hard, her mind was a vast stormy ocean at this point, and her heart was roaring wildly in her chest.
She, The Great Yu Qingluo, had actually got herself handled by this shameless bastard. She started missing her son all of a sudden, unaware of his whereabouts. Nannan was so good, obedient and wouldn’t talk back even if she bullied him. But this man… she really wanted to end him for good.
Yu Qingluo turned her body, infuriated, laughing angrily at him: “Ok, I’ll treat you. And I’ll definitely help you recover from your injuries.”
Ye Xiudu nodded satisfied, saying in addition: “Within four days.”
Oh, why don’t you just die??
Yu Qingluo sneered, then, condescendingly looking at him she ordered: “Lie down.”
Ye Xiudu was very cooperative and obediently laid back in the position she asked him to. But blood continued seeping through his robes. Yu Qingluo’s expression at the man lying on the couch turned sceptical.
Was he some sort of M? If it was Nannan instead, even a small cut in his finger would cause him to throw a fit on the ground, crying in pain.
Yu Qingluo opened his robe, revealing the thick bandages tied around his chest. The next moment she scowled deeply. This wound was so deep and extensive, spreading from the side of his chest down to his waist. No wonder it split open with just the slightest pressure being applied to it.
That Wu Dong actually did have some skills. After all, considering the current development of medical treatment in this era and the severity of this injury, she was almost certain that his life wouldn’t be able to be spared otherwise.
However, even if Wu Dong was even more amazing and her medicine even more magical it would be extremely hard for this wound to heal without suturing it up. At least, just using bandages to wrap it wasn’t enough.
“How?” Ye Xiudu looked at her and saw uncertainty in her face. But there wasn’t the slightest apprehension. It was like this type of wound wasn’t that much of a problem to her.
Yu Qingluo stood up, regaining her condescending attitude once again, she said: “I need to suture your wound.”
“Suture?” Can a wound be sewn up? A hint of surprise flashed through Ye Xiudu’s heart, but his face was still calm: “Since it’s like that, then just do it.”
“…” Yu Qingluo was perplexed by his response: “Why aren’t you curious if this is not just me wanting to take your life? Are you going to simply let me do whatever? To you, I should still be a stranger.”
Ye Xiudu closed his eyes, he realized that this woman was trying to provoke him at every turn with such a high-and-mighty attitude on purpose. His eyes turned a bit sour while looking at her.
“I won’t doubt the people I already put into use.”
Since he has put Peng Ying’s life in her hands already, why bother with doubting whether she wanted to kill him? In any case, if anything happens to him this woman wouldn’t be able to leave this residence alive. What’s more, he didn’t think she was the type of stupid person who couldn’t even think of this possibility.
Yu Qingluo ‘humphed’, turning to open the bag she carried around to take out her surgical tools. These were instruments she had slowly crafted for herself after coming into this world. Whether it was the tweezers or the needlework scissors, they were all unique in this world. Even if she is quite skilful in Chinese Medicine and studied poisons as a hobby, she is most well-versed in western medicine practices.
“It might be a bit painful, but you must bear it for a while.” She didn’t plan on giving him any anaesthetics since he seemed to handle the pain quite well.
Yu Qingluo felt uncomfortable as she turned to meet his closed eyes.
She took all the clothes from his upper body, thinking ‘Really good, such a strong body with beautiful abdominal muscles…’ her heart trembled even harder.
At this moment, there was a knock on the door.
Ye Xiudu opened his eyes, first giving Yu Qingluo a glance, then he saw that there was no bigger reaction as she was placing her wholehearted attention into taking out his robes, not stopping her movements.
After hesitating a bit, he said towards the door: “Come in.”
Shen Ying opened the door cautiously before stepping in. Before he looked up he started speaking: “Lord, Peng Ying has woken up. He said that he had something to report to the Lord and let me come here… Oh, uh… so-sorry, sorry to disturb you. I’ll come back later.”
With a ‘squeak’ Shen Ying took some steps backwards and quickly closed the door. Then he patted his chest, trying to digest the scene he has just witnessed. With his heart still pounding fiercely in his chest even at this moment.
Just now… it shouldn’t be his eyes playing tricks on him. Just now… Miss Yu was the one “attacking” the Lord. Just now… the two of them were doing that.
Shen Ying felt like his head would soon be rolling on the floor and blamed Peng Ying for not waking up later to ask him such favour when his Lord wasn’t busy minding his own…affairs, instead.
Ay, that wasn’t good. The Lord was still hurt! That Miss Yu was just too impatient!
Shen Ying thought about how inappropriate that was, then decided to knock again.
This time, Yu Qingluo came over and opened the door with a gloomy expression. When she saw him she put a blood-stained bandage into his arms and said: “You’re here just in time. You go and get me something, I’m going to treat your Lord.”
“Eh? Eh? Ah!!” Shen Ying was stunned, speechless, it took him a while to react, staring at the bloodied bandages in his hands and then back at the room where he saw his Lord looking at him coldly.
Shen Ying shrank his neck then nodded quickly. Yu Qingluo then proceeded to tell him to prepare some clean bandages, a Jinshuang medicine[2] and a table suitable for her to suture him on. Then she turned around with a ‘humpf’: “What the hell is going on inside that Shen Ying’s head? How could you and I have…” an affair.
In the middle of saying her words, she abruptly shut up with eyes widening and pupils dilating as she stared at a small jade pendant that had fallen from the robes she took off his body, feeling that something cracking into pieces inside her head.

[1] – 安然无恙 – is an idiom with slightly different meanings, it can mean ‘to live for another day”, “to be safe and sound” or “to come unscathed after an illness/accident”. Depending on the way you interpret it you can get the meaning of saving someone’s life or healing them up completely. I believe this is what she meant by ‘playing a word game’.
[2] – 金疮药 (Jinshuang Yao) is a powdered medicine used to apply on open wounds it has hemostatic and, apparently, bactericide and anti-inflammatory properties. Although I’m not well-versed in Chinese medicine you can just google the term in chinese to see pictures.
