My mother is the Ghost Doctor

‘Number 3?’ that guy stared blankly. Didn’t Yu Qingluo forbid them from putting the numbers 1 and 3 inside of the ballot box? What is the shopkeeper planning to do? What should he actually feel now that the shopkeeper is about to dig her own grave?

But even though he had this sort of thoughts, under Jin Liuli’s fierce stare, he still went back in a hurry.

Worried, he ended up scraping against the edge of the dishes Da Wu was carrying.

The latter glared at him, before twisting his body and standing on his tiptoes, a palm resting against a pillar on the side to support himself from falling. He supported the plates, protecting the wine bottle over the plate. Turning his head, he berated the inattentive guy: “What are you doing?! Just what emergency caused you to be in such a hurry? These plates are on the shopkeeper’s tab. If you smash them, be careful not to be skinned alive by her.”

“Ahh, sorry. I’m sorry!” the guy hastily apologized, turning his body to move farther away.

Da Wu shook his head, letting out a sigh. Cautiously bringing the dishes over the second floor’s box.

The shopkeeper said that these dishes are to be given to those guests that were trying to play tricks around. Let them have nothing to do and keep trying to do the so called ‘imitate the dog to steal the chickens’ [1] thing. Since they have the mind and will, then making them spend a few extra silvers is a must. (TL: Jin Liuli is sending the most expensive dishes, but not for free. She’s gonna charge them for those dishes 😛)

As he was having these thoughts, he turned his head and started to knock on the door of the box in front of him.

Yu Zuolin’s brows drew tight as he felt annoyed by the sudden knocking sound. Staring out for a while he let out a low voice: “Who is it?”

“Dear guest, our shopkeeper ordered us to bring some dishes over. After all, we also don’t know how long the Ghost Doctor will need to see all his patients. And we cannot let our guests go hungry while waiting.”

Yu Zuolin had no patience: “I don’t need it. You take it back.”

“Dear guest, this… this is what our shopkeeper instructed to pass, so I must give it to you. If you don’t open the door, I have no way to explain this to her. So I can only stay here in front of your box, outside.” Da Wu chuckled, his tone had not a single shred of the embarrassment his sentence implied.

Yu Zuolin’s face turned ashen, he wasn’t in the mood to eat anything. But he also couldn’t allow this waiter to stand outside of the door. Otherwise, he would attract unwarranted attention.

Pursing his lips, he could only stand up, open the door and let the person come in.

Da Wu smiled slightly, almost like he had foreseen early on that he would end up compromising. In a skilled and careful manner, he arranged all the plates over the table. Then, he extended a hand towards Yu Zuolin: “Guest, it’s 20.”

Yu Zuolin looked at him, bewildered, then stared at the course of dishes over the table. His expression twisted around as he let a cold smile: “The dishes brought over by the Fulong tavern are no different than those served by those big restaurants in the capital.”

Da Wu still had a smile on his lips as he stretched his hand over: “This little one hasn’t gone to the capital and has no idea what the big restaurants serve. But I could call over the shopkeeper right now to come to explain it over to you.”

Finished speaking, Da Wu turned his head towards the window inside of the box and opened his mouth: “Sho…”

Yu Zuolin’s expression changed. Pulling the person back inside and, with gritted teeth, he took out the silvers and put them on his hand. “You go out.”

Da Wu checked the silvers he received, not a single care was given to the man’s bad manners. Smilingly he turned around and left the box. Soon after receiving the silver on top of his hands, his eyes curved in a slit.

Nevertheless, Yu Qingluo really had a way, uh. Knowing that these guests were all about having a good reputation, wanting to save face at all costs, and didn’t want to have any troubles. It was only a matter of lifting his voice to speak a bit louder than they would immediately compromise.

Tsk tsk, but he wasn’t quite sure whether the guests in the other boxes would be this easy to deal with…

It’s just that, Yu Qingluo instructed them not to go over the Mo residence’s box. How weird. How come that this Mo residence is so mysterious that even Yu Qingluo didn’t want to provoke them?

But the shopkeeper wanted to deliver the dishes to all of the boxes.

Da Wu lowered his head, in thought. Thinking that he could only choose to walk the route picked by the shopkeeper now, reasoning that this way of earning money was really hard to come by and that the shop should treat its guests equally and that… ok! He was just curious about what kind of people those fellows from the Mo residence were.

Turning his head, he hurried back so he could pick more dishes to bring over. It was pretty weird, except for Yu Zuolin trying to make things difficult in the beginning, the other guests were quick to shush him out, not giving a single glance towards the dishes and simply giving him the money directly.

He was lucky to have thought a bunch of reasons, but in the ended he didn’t need any of those.

Carrying over the last course of meals to deliver, Da Wu stood in front of the third box door, he lifted a hand and knocked.

From inside could be heard a voice: “Who is it?”

Shen Ying’s brows knitted, the other person promptly reporting over.

“Dear guest, I have come to deliver some dishes.” Da Wu held his breath in rapt attention, feeling an intangible pressure upon his body.

Nannan, who was already suffering from hunger inside of the room, after hearing the voice stood erect, leaping in a second from the ground and rushing like a cannonball towards the door. “Finally, there’s something to eat. Finally, there’s something to eat!”

Mo Xian feared him hitting the door so he hurried over to block his path: “You go slower, let him come in and then you can eat.”

After saying those words, he gave Wen Tian a glance and the latter opened the door, holding a hand to pick up the food. “Give it to me.”

“Dear guest, it’s 30 silvers.” before Da Wu lifted his head, he felt that the person in front of him had deliberately released the pressure from before, letting his apprehensive heart settle.

30 silvers?

Right at the spot, Nannan started calling out: “You are extorting us! Uncle Da Wu, I can’t believe you even want to extort me! Is it because you jealous of this pretty like a flower and innocent cuteness of mine that you came bearing aunty Jin’s name to come over to take others money? You all make me starve for such a long time and after sending something for me to eat, you still want to get money. I’m so sad, my heart has been broken into pieces. It’s all turned into dregs.”

“Nannan?!” Da Wu lifted his head startled, seeing the kiddo making threatening gestures standing next to Mo Xian. His next words were unable to leave his mouth as he became astonished ‘N-nannan, how could he be here? Did Miss Yu know about this? Could it be a kidnapping?’

‘N-not right.’ A million thoughts rushed through Da Wu’s mind. The last was that Yu Qingluo didn’t let them come to the third box, and that made the situation clear in his mind.

“Do you… know each other?” Mo Xian looked at Nannan then at Da Wu, with a sharp gaze.

Da Wu’s lips twitched, bracing himself to answer: “W-we c-could be considered acquaintances.”

“How could you call it acquaintance?” Nannan wasn’t satisfied. Struggling out of Mo Xian’s arms and walking in front of Wen Tian. Seeing the course of dishes, his face turned dark: “This is what you are giving me to eat? Uncle Da Wu, you are mistreating me! Where’s my mother? Where did my mother go? I want to file a complaint!”

Da Wu couldn’t say a word, he still wasn’t sure of who those guys were. In addition, that man who was standing by the window with his back turned to him and that hadn’t opened his mouth seemed to be their leader.

Wen Tian saw Nannan’s hairs standing up, crazy about finding Yu Qingluo. This racket of his would end up attracting the attention of the other guests. So, he hurriedly squatted to try and pacify him. “Your mother went to see the Ghost Doctor and will return soon. You first eat something, I’ll let them bring over something delicious for you.”

Went to see the Ghost Doctor?

Nannan’s eyes widened, in a vacant manner, he blinked twice. Before immediately starting to laugh while pointing a finger at Wen Tian: “Hahahaha, went to see the Ghost Doctor? My mother IS the Ghost Doctor. How could she go out to see herself? Hahahaha, Uncle Wen, you’re too funny. Hahaha, my mother going to see herself, hahaha.”

(TL: So many haha’s, I wanted to write ROFL and get done with those, xD)

[1] 偷鸡摸狗 – It’s an idiom that has more than one meaning. The first is ‘to pilfer’, that is, to go around secretly trying to steal from them. The second has to do with a man dallying with a woman (but it’s not this situation).
