Lin Jue had a long, long nightmare.

In it, he walked across a swamp filled with blood, and every step he took was on white bones and carcasses.

He met one familiar face after another, one familiar head after another, all buried under the sea of blood, their despairing eyes looking towards the faded sky, filled with resentment.

It was all over his body, some his, some not. Like maggots squirming on him, it bit through his skin, digging inwards, swimming and reproducing in the layer between skin and muscle, an itch that no amount of scratching could ever remove. It was an itchiness that went into the bones, right down into his organs.

He woke up, panting in shock.

Sunlight gracefully seeped through the gap in the curtain, leaving a long ray of light on the tile of the dorms. It was quiet in the room, only the snoring coming from the upper bunk disturbing the peace.

This familiar scene, this familiar scent, this familiar sound…

Lin Jue sat up in confusion.

It seemed that he really did have a long and terrifying dream.

His eyes suddenly widened and he flipped off the quilt and jumped down. Jiang Wei was sleeping peacefully on the opposite bed; he often gamed late into the night on Fridays and had probably only slept when the sun was about to rise and hence was only now in the deepest stage of sleep.

Seeing his roommate’s face, he suddenly returned from the nightmare back into reality.

There were no zombies, no Judas. Everyone was still alive.

Lin Jue opened his phone. It was only 7:30. Flipping through his call history and messages showed only the day’s information.

There was nothing out of place.

But that despair and darkness from the nightmare was so real; the pain of being bitten, the coldness of the lake, the weakness of his body, each and every one of them felt carved deep into his brain, making the current peace feel like no more than a sweet dream.

Lin Jue felt his shoulder. It was perfectly fine, no wounds at all.

He finally relaxed.

But, if that was truly a dream…

Then did there really exist a person called Song Hanzhang?

Clinical medicine, their fourth year of university, in this dormitory building?

He was probably… just a person from that dream.

The strong sense of loss made Lin Jue feel a little lost. The companion that went through life and death with him disappeared after the end of the nightmare. He finally returned to the peaceful school life; there were no zombies, but there was also no Song Hanzhang.

A rare Saturday, yet he was woken up in the early morning by a nightmare, completely driving away all need for sleep. Lin Jue could only put on his clothes and prepare himself to enjoy breakfast in school.

Just as he arrived at the bottom of the building, a gust of cold wind blew across and Lin Jue shivered.

It was getting a lot colder.

A few students walked across him in groups of threes and fives, meeting up to play outside. There were also girls in short skirts walking by, that choice of a shirt and a skirt reminding Lin Jue immediately of Zhou Yuxiu.

It was just a dream though.

Lin Jue rubbed his temple and told himself that before striding out of the dormitory building.

Going through the open area, the quiet but lively atmosphere slowly brushed away the remnants of that nightmare. It was a single nightmare, but it had felt like an entire lifetime.

He took in a deep breath and walked towards the canteen.

He focused on the delicious spring onion noodles and fried egg that they sold, and skipped to its outside, whistling an out of tune melody.

Suddenly, he stopped.

There were two familiar people, one with his back to him talking to a third person, and the other with his hands in his pockets, standing by casually.

“Song…” Lin Jue’s eyes widened.

“Eh? Another one.” Lu Ren turned around, hands still in his pockets, and took a glance at Lin Jue, his expression smiling, yet not.

Song Hanzhang turned around, revealing the person standing behind him——

Lilith with her hair in twin ponytails.

She held a box of pretty easter eggs, a notebook in her arms.

Seeing Lin Jue’s face, she giggled. “Happy New Day!”

Luci: Annnd that’s the end of the main story of book one! Thank you all for sticking with us till the end, it really makes our day when we see that someone has liked our post or just when there is someone reading.

There’s still one more extra chapter but it has nothing to do with the main story. In fact, it’s got no plot. But it exists so look out for it I guess. There are two more books that follow this, following our sad little MC Lin Jue and the extremely slow development of his relationship with ML, so keep reading!

Vera: Luci complained so much about the extra haha. All our lovely viewers, likers, commenters, followers, thank you! We’ve been getting a lot more of you since last chapter, it’s a pleasure to see the notifications in our inbox.
