A large mansion in the backstreets of the capital.

I had come to visit the slave trader.

In the spacious reception room filled with luxurious furnishings, I met the slave trader.

A portly, middle-aged man with a gentle smile sat across the table from me.

The only thing I, who lack common sense, could tell was that his eyes didn't smile.

"So, what brings the hero to our establishment?"

"Let me be frank. I've quit being a hero and have come to buy a slave."

"Hmm. That's quite... unexpected."

The slave trader stroked his chin thoughtfully, sizing me up from head to toe.

---He's probably thinking about how much money a man who's been fired from his job has. Maybe he's even considering how to overcharge me.

But that was fine.

To be honest, I thought it was inevitable that I'd be overcharged on the first one. I'm not good at haggling.

If I can get a slave with common sense as a consultant, I can avoid being cheated from the second time onward.

Unless they're a weirdo, they probably have more common sense than I do, who was raised in a sheltered environment.

The slave trader spoke cautiously.

"So... what kind of slave are you looking for...?"

"I want a slave who can take care of daily chores and has a common sense. Age and gender don't matter."

"I see."

The slave trader became even more thoughtful.

For the first one, it didn't matter if they were male, female, a child, or an old man, as long as they could be my common sense consultant.

The slave trader suddenly tilted his head.

"I understand that you've quit being a hero, but do you have any plans for your next job?"

"No, I don't. I don't even know what to do. I want a slave who can advise me on that too."

I spoke frankly. I'm not good at haggling, as I've said multiple times.

The slave trader's brow furrowed.

"Excuse me, but what can the hero do besides slaying monsters?"

"Nothing... I can't do anything other than the hero's job."

"I see... I understand."

The slave trader nodded as if everything was clear.

His attitude caught my attention, so I asked.

"Why do you understand?"

"I am aware that you, Lord Alex, have been fighting for the country as a hero since your childhood. You've grown up without knowing any other job. Therefore... you can only take up a job that involves slaying monsters."

"So, that means I can only become a border guard or an adventurer, right?"

"That's right. I think it would be best for Lord Alex to become an adventurer, taking on jobs to slay monsters and explore dungeons."

"I see. I guess I have no choice but to become an adventurer."

Actually, I don't know much about the job, but if it's just about slaying monsters, I might manage.

But will there be any income? Can I earn enough to live on?

I had no idea.

After thinking for a while, the slave trader snapped his fingers.

A thin, elderly butler rushed over. After whispering something in his ear, the butler left the room.

"Please wait a moment. I'll bring a slave that's perfect for Lord Alex."

"Thank you."

I have no way of knowing if they'll be perfect.

---It's fine if I get cheated on the first one. I'll be more careful from the second time onward.

While sitting on the sofa and drinking about half of the tea served, the door to the reception room opened.

One by one, beautiful young women walked in, maintaining a distance, and lined up against the wall.

The first one had long blonde hair down to her waist and a great figure. Her large chest bounced with every step.

The second one had short orange hair. Her slim, long limbs looked healthy.

The third one was a delicate, beautiful young girl with blonde hair. Her pointed ears indicated she was an elf.

They walked across the wide room at intervals, probably to give me time to observe each one carefully.

But I was taken aback.

---What? Such beautiful people?

They all looked so beautiful that I felt nervous just thinking about talking to them.

At the same time, I thought they must be expensive.

It seems I'm going to be a victim of a scam. It's frustrating, but there's nothing I can do.

The fourth one, however, was not a young woman but an old woman with a bent staff. Her deeply wrinkled face and hooked nose made her look like a witch.

...No, she had green hair with white highlights.

I've fought someone similar before; she's probably a witch...

While I was surprised and wary of the witch, she frowned as soon as she entered the room.

Did she sense my excessive holy aura, which is useless?

Finally, the fifth one entered the room.

She wore a white nun's habit, which seemed unsuitable for a slave.

She looked to be in her late teens or early twenties, with a mature and composed air. Her walk was graceful and demure, and her shining silver hair swayed.

---But.

As soon as she bowed and entered the room, she saw me and her eyes widened in surprise.

"..."

She seemed to be about to say something but quickly covered her mouth with her hand.

---What's going on?

Does she know me?

Maybe we met when I was a hero.

While I was searching my memory, the slave trader stood up and began to explain.
