Towering trees stretched out towards the sky, covering the sun and moon across the entire mountain range. Some trees pierced through the clouds while others remained short and weak, seeming very strange. And in such an environment filled with vegetation, a slim youth walked forwards slowly with his head lowered.

These two months of travelling and fighting had caused the slight fat that Jing Xia originally possessed to change to lean muscles. However, all in all, there was still a lack of sufficient food so he still appeared rather weak, concealing this force under his clothing.

With a slash, the fleshy and disgusting colourful caterpillar was chopped in half. Another sharp water arrow shot forth, tearing the chaotic poisonous flower vine apart. Jing Xia swiftly navigated this forest, hunting for tonight’s meal for the three of them.

First he had to confirm that it was not mutated. The second thing was to make sure that there was enough for them to consume. Not many could satisfy these two conditions. So in these 12 days after finishing their rations, the party of three couldn’t eat until full every day. Fortunately, there was Jing Xia’s supply of water. It could be counted as solving a giant, difficult problem.

Jing Xia once again used a knife to solve the flower spider that pounced towards him. Afterwards, he shook his head and cast Qin Chu’s words just now to the back of his mind, no longer thinking about this matter. His delicate brows knitted, Jing Xia clenched the long blade, running amongst the bushes.

“Food, food, food! Right now, I only want food!”

Lying to numb himself, Jing Xia didn’t notice that behind the tall tree only a hundred meters from himself, a streak of dark indigo shadow flashed past, creeping towards his direction. When the enemy entered the 20m scope around him, Jing Xia instinctively bent down with vigilance, barely dodging the abrupt mid-air strike.

The rapid evolution of his dynamic strength allowed Jing Xia to clearly see this unexpected attacker when he raised his head while crouching down. When his gaze met the indigo patagium, he froze with his eyes widening into circles. He subconsciously formed a light blue water barrier, obstructing the black venom splattering from the sky.

What followed was exactly a battle of speed and defense.

This complex-toothed flying squirrel’s build suddenly increased by more than three times. Its speed was even more shocking. Its whole body appeared to be indigo, in a highly toxic state and its large, sharp molar tooth was no longer the scariest weapon. The venom splat out was the weapon that made Jing Xia feel the most threatened.

Fortunately, he could use the water barrier to block the poison but the water barrier had quickly faded away each time due to the highly corrosive nature of the venom. It truly made Jing Xia susceptible to danger many times. However, it was not known whether it was because this flying squirrel had been injured or its evolution was not yet completed, after several confrontations, it finally fell under Jing Xia’s blade. Its body was covered in blood and it made loud squeaking sounds.

“Hu…… I haven’t met such a troublesome thing in a long time.” Jing Xia wiped away the still-warm blood on his body and muttered to himself: “At my current level in addition to my actual combat ability…… this complex-toothed flying squirrel should have been at least that of a D-grade mutation physique.”

The blood dripped down the long knife along the blade. Jing Xia’s eyebrows were tightly wrinkled. He looked at the flying squirrel’s carcass for a while before moving away his line of sight. He raised his foot and intended to continue to advance. Suddenly, he felt a burning stare casted on his own back, carrying with it a strong intent to kill and hostility, making Jing Xia subconsciously put up a water barrier. His whole body turned around and retreated backwards a few steps, once again brandishing his blade, ready to face an attack.

After the sound of metals clashing, Jing Xia gazed with wide eyes at the giant complex-toothed flying squirrel that fell onto the ground, staring at himself while baring its teeth. Purely from its imposing manner, this flying squirrel is stronger than the previous one just then by more than one level!

Jing Xia’s hands tightly held onto the sheath. Just as he readied for the fight, he suddenly heard the sound of clapping echoing around him.

A bad premonition immediately bubbled forth in his heart. Jing Xia held the sheath and no longer prepared to face the enemy, subconsciously ran towards the opposite direction. Behind him was 10 mutated complex-toothed flying squirrels, flicking with indigo coloured brilliance. All these flying squirrels flapped their wings, gliding towards that tiny human figure to attack.

One pursued while the other fled. The latter’s speed became slower and slower while the enemy behind chased like the wind. The gap slowly shortened.

“Strange, why hasn’t that little bastard returned yet?” Qin Chu carried a bundle of firewood and returned to the cave. She stood at the cave mouth, looking around with a baffled expression for a while and softly muttered to herself: “It’s already been two hours, even if he didn’t manage to find any food, he should’ve been back too ah.”

Steward Wang walked over: “Miss Qin, Young Master wouldn’t have…… encountered something?” His concerned voice sounded, carrying with it some wavering due to fear.

Hearing this, Qin Chu’s beautiful face also showed some anxiety. She carefully thought for a while, before finally still taking out her long knife, saying: “Steward Wang, I’ll first go and have a look. If I don’t come back within an hour, you just ignite the signal flare. If the little bastard comes back within an hour, you don’t need to use the signal flare. I’ll come back on my own.”

Steward Wang took the silver metallic red flare from Qin Chu and solemnly nodded: “Okay. I have troubled you, Miss Qin.”

Qin Chu didn’t say much more. She dashed towards the direction in which Jing Xia had disappeared. Her slim and tall figure quickly vanished in the pitch-black curtain of the night, only leaving behind the worried old man and an ignorant little black dumping at the cave mouth, both anxiously waiting.

After merely an hour, a beacon of resplendent white flare ignited in the sky, blossoming into elegant and dazzling rays of light.

Qin Chu stared at that familiar signal flare lighting up in the sky with astonishment. In this quiet mountain range without the disturbance of city lights, it was even more beautiful and striking like Venus. However, Qin Chu couldn’t appreciate this beauty at this moment. This gleam of light signified——

Jing Xia’s situation is definitely very dangerous!

Damn it! Her current strength isn’t even better than Jing Xia’s. This is a crisis that even Jing Xia cannot confront. Perhaps all she could do is to create more chaos for him!

On the other hand, Jing Xia also blankly stared at the signal fire flicking in the southern direction of the night sky. Under him were three to four complex-toothed flying squirrels that were already chopped in half and on his face were two bloody gashes scratched by the enemy’s sharp claws. A sleeve was torn off, his body carrying glaring bruises and wounds.

But now, he had no energy to care about his own situation at all!

He only saw the flying squirrels that were fighting with him suddenly paused its movements, and in complete unity, all turned its stout body, staring at the white flare in the sky. Seeing that the beacon of flare dimmed until it finally thoroughly disappeared into the darkness of the quiet night.

Then, in the next second! All the flying squirrels brandish their huge patagia in succession, rushing towards the place where the flare was ignited.

“NO!!!”

It was needless to guess. Jin Xia naturally knew where that direction was, knew what that white flare was. He once heard Qin Chu mention that this kind of signal flare will not alarm living creatures and will even bring with it a type of hormone used for deterring organisms, able to prevent attacks from wild beasts.

But now…… why would these mutated flying squirrels rush towards that direction?! That place he had kept away from by any means possible!

Jing Xia’s originally tired body brimmed with energy in an instant. He unceasingly brandished his blade, wanting to overtake those flying squirrels but always fell behind by a beat. He could only barely catch up to the last one’s speed, yet the point of his knife couldn’t even touch the other’s body.

These flying squirrels that were only just happily pursuing Jing Xia, now seemed to have already found a new motivation and target, incessantly charged towards that place where the signal flare was released. Anywhere they had been will set off a spell of alarm, causing all the other creatures to hide in fear, not daring to disturb them.

The orignal many chasing one now became the one chasing many. Everything changed too quickly. Enough so that Jing Xia completely had no ability to obstruct them.

Just as Qin Chu was searching through the forest, she suddenly heard a burst of aeolian sound. She perplexedly raised her head. In an instant, she saw an ocean of indigo as well as the pale youth amongst.

“Jing Xia!”

Qin Chu discovered that youth didn’t pay attention to her. She looked towards the direction in which Jing Xia had disappeared, and immediately understood what had happened. She hurried towards that direction with appallment, but simply couldn’t catch up with Jing Xia’s steps.

Complex-toothed flying squirrels filled the entire sky, obstructing his entire line of sight. Jing Xia’s legs have long tired and numbed from all the running, but his speed did not slow at all, only incessantly running, running. His eyes were bloodshot, his complexion deathly pale, only rigidly stared at that indigo squirrel wall in front, not willing to move away his gaze.

That place was even closer now, EVEN CLOSER!

Jing Xia felt that his breathing seemed to have completely ceased, the sound of his heart beating was so loud as if it had exploded next to his ear. At this very moment, all sounds became static in the face of the pulsing red blood. Only the anxious and fearful “jiji” sounds as well as the humming noises as the flying squirrels gilded by were so clear that it seemed to have echoed in his mind. All his messy thoughts just became a sheet of blankness.

“NO!!!!!!”
