The time when waiting is the most painful for one.

That syringe, full of the light purple solution, was slowly injected into Ji Chuancheng’s arm bit by bit. Jing Xia never felt that his own movements were this slow. He pushed down the plunger, injecting the last bit of A-Z that was mixed with his own blood into the other’s body. In the next second, Jing Xia rapidly stepped away and fled.

“A’ Chuan?!”

“Young Master?!”

Two sounds of surprise rang out at the same time.

Jing Xia dodged Ji Chuancheng’s sudden palm that was directed at him. He looked towards the other again, only seeing that person still tightly closed his eyes, seemingly not awakened yet. Only the expression of pain and suffering on his face was even fiercer. His whole body was stretched taut straight, his upper body left the ground, the muscles on his arm tightened, revealing his blue veins.

“You bastard, did you harm the Major?!” Yu Jie lifted Qi Yang off the ground without another word and vehemently shouted.

Qi Yang smiled without care, “I said it before, I also don’t know what the results of the experiment will be like. However, you guys could also not do anything. After an hour, Major Ji will naturally die, and it will have nothing to do with me.” While speaking, he once again lifted his head and shouted over Yu Jie’s shoulder, “That Jing Xia, I’ll be presumptuous and ask, when did you awaken your ability? What’s your ability?”

Jing Xia was immersed in that attack on himself and was not aware. Suddenly hearing his own name, he turned around in a daze, reflexively answering, “Around 20 days ago, water ability.”

Hearing this, Qi Yang raised an eyebrow, but only made an indescribable low laugh and did not speak anymore. Seeing this guy’s heartless look, Yu Jie’s anger appeared. Just as he raised a fist, intending to give the other another strike, he was interrupted by Qin Chu’s abrupt raised voice, “Young Master?!!!”

Yu Jie quickly turned his head to look, only seeing Ji Chuancheng suddenly quieted down. His body that was originally stretched taut to a point of leaving the ground, once again sunk into the ground. His expression was peaceful as if he was sleeping, only the constant beads of sweat emerging on his forehead hinted to the other was still in an abnormal situation.

Yu Jie loosened his grip on Qi Yang’s shirt, “This…… what happened?”

Jing Xia blankly froze for a long while, before slowly leaning against Ji Chuancheng’s body and crouching down. He couldn’t help but reach out to touch this man who seemed to be in pain, but just as his hand was raised in midair, it paused. Finally, it was once again withdrawn. He cleared his throat and said, “He probably has begun normal evolution? We should…… wait for a bit.”

The layers upon layers of black clouds in the sky were slowly blown away by the night wind. The limpid tender moonlight passed through the atmosphere, shining down, illuminating the whole expanse of sky. A sharp wind blew across the wound on Jing Xia’s hand brought about by the battle against those flying squirrels just then. However, it was as if he had not felt anything, merely continuously guarding at Ji Chuancheng’s side until the other person’s breathing had already completely calmed, before slowly turning away and leaving. He returned to his original place, guarding that old man who could no longer be able to take another breath, not making a single sound.

The night gradually faded away. After a layer of faint marble white of dawn emerged from the east horizon, Qin Chu suddenly cried out in surprise. That man who had fainted for no less than eight hours finally woke. Everything seemed to have restored to the previous normality and serenity. Yet, everything also seemed to appear an irreversible mistake.

After Qin Chu gave Ji Chuancheng a last inspection, confirming that there was nothing abnormal with his body, Jing Xia still adamantly guarded next to Steward Wang’s corpse, not leaving even one step away. His tears have long stopped, simply just silently bowed his head and stared, not even caring about the situation on Qin Chu and the other side.

“Jijijiji?!”

Suddenly seeing the humans who had disappeared for nearly a month walking over, the little black dumpling trod towards Steward Wang’s ice-cold chest with his chubby body, continuously inconsiderately shouting, “Jiji”. Ji Chuancheng’s shirt was a little shabby. It was unknown which ferocious beast had used its claws to scratch it open. The cloth covering his chest was tattered but only faint bloodstains were left on his chest. His wound has already completely closed up.

Successfully evolved humans possessed extremely fast recovery abilities. Even their 5 senses, reaction speed, instincts, and so on, would all progressively strengthen, thoroughly separating them from evolution deserters by an insurmountable moat.

“What were his last words?” He lightly gave that incessantly squeaking hamster a glance. After successfully obstructing that hamster from jumping around, Ji Chuancheng looked down at the young man who had fallen into silence for an unknown period of time. The gradually rising morning sun shone upon the side of his face in splendid radiance. His already profound facial features became even more handsome under the light.

But the youth did not answer as if he did not hear anything.

Ji Chuancheng was not angry either.. His line of sight was tightly locked on Jing Xia, saying, “My plan is to first go to S City’s Base. Before, you said that it was humanity’s final gathering place. S City is near the East China Sea, abundant with resources. The city’s system is also comparatively developed, suitable to be the final headquarters for humanity to withstand the mutant beast herd……”

“I’m not going.” A weak, hoarse voice suddenly interrupted Ji Chuancheng.

His pupils slightly contracted, a wisp of darkness flashed past his eyes. Ji Chuancheng said in a calm manner, “Don’t be willful.”

“In the end, Grandpa Wang still died.” His voice was dry as if he had not spoken for a few days. Jing Xia lowered his head, slowly smiled while saying, “I thought I could change something, but…… in the end, I had done nothing. What use is there going to S City? Facing those mutant beasts, we could only have more and more people dying, obtaining rare victories amongst numerous defeats, just like before.”

Ji Chuancheng was silent. He heard the youth’s laughter become louder and louder, and finally, it seemed to be a little crazy.

“Grandpa Wang died. Many people will still die. More and more people will die. I can’t do anything at all. With me…… and without me, there is simply no difference.” Slowly standing up, Jing Xia raised his head and looked at Ji Chuancheng. Tears already stained his face, yet his lips still curled up into a powerless smile, “A’ Chuan, I’m tired, I don’t want to walk anymore, I can’t walk now. I can’t accomplish anything. Nothing can be changed. Grandpa Wang has left. No one needs me anymore, what other good do I have……”

“I need you.”

Jing Xia’s voice suddenly stopped. His whole person was wrapped into a tight, warm embrace. This chest was just as broad as it was a month ago, as if it could contain his entirety. The arms held him tight, so tight that Jing Xia felt that his whole self was going to be confined by this person, unable to struggle free.

“There are many things you can do. You saved the lives of hundreds in the Restricted Zone’s Armed Force, saved hundreds of people from the small scale beast tide. Although it is only one-tenth, you did it, not letting the tragedy of the destruction of the whole army happen.” His voice was just as it was in the past, calm and unhurried. However, in a place Jing Xia couldn’t see, the other’s thin lips slightly curled up, adding a few points of gentleness to that indifferent face, “We’ve known each other for 20 years. I’ve said it before, this is the last time I leave you. I need you, Xiao Xia.”

That familiar yet unfamiliar address came out from Ji Chuancheng’s mouth for the first time, making Jing Xia felt as if he had stepped onto a layer of soft cotton clouds, and everything turned unreal. A strange intention emerged from his heart, but it was always separated by a layer of hazy mist, never able to see clearly.

“A’ Chuan……”

A voice choked with emotions rang out quietly. Jing Xia slowly stretched his hands and embraced the other’s back. When his fingertips touched that upright spine, Ji Chuancheng’s body became slightly stiff, before once again quickly relaxing.

“Steward Wang left feeling very gratified because you are no longer the little Young Master he needed to look after.” Ji Chuancheng looked down, and softly said, “I’m also very gratified because you are standing in front of me, completely whole.”

“Let’s go, Xiao Xia.”

Jing Xia opened his mouth, ready to voice his rejection yet no matter what, he could not utter it. Before his eyes, that old man’s kind smile seemed to once again appear, shining upon the blaze, then finally gradually cooling in the dim of the night of the cold forest. At that time, his heart also, bit by bit, became ice-cold, feeling as if his whole person could not make a single movement.

Yet now, following the man’s thin shirt, warmth was transmitted through this embrace, making his long cold blood once again warm. His heart pulsed. Jing Xia slowly tightened his fingers; in the end, all his tears were revoked. He hooked his lips, softly smiled and said, “Okay, let’s go.”

Not far away, Qin Chu lifted her head and looked towards the two who were tightly hugging each other. Fair fingers slowly tightened before relaxing. What she didn’t know was that the man who was tightly shackled was also leaning against a large tree, looking at this particular warm sight with ridicule.

Qi Yang’s mocking gaze sized up Jing Xia and Ji Chuancheng for a while. His lips moved, saying something, yet no one heard.

Brilliant, warm sunlight shone down through the tree leaves, forming a circular facula on the ground. A large fire abruptly ignited in the mountain forest, exquisitely controlling the angle and the fire intensity. Not long after, it finished burning the ice-cold, rigid body, leaving only fine grey ashes on the ground.

Jing Xia lightly caressed the layer of ashes using his fingers, looking at it for a while. In the end, he finally grasped a handful and placed it in a small tin box, before putting the box in his pocket. In the next second, he stood up and left without reluctance, jogging for a few steps to follow on with the rest of the party.

Behind him were the ashes of the dead, gradually dispersing with the cool breeze. A black coloured small dumpling foolishly stood amidst the drifting ashes, softly chirped, “jiji”. It stared blankly for a while before suddenly speeding up and rushing towards the shadows of the people who were on the verge of disappearing into the forest.

The cool breeze that passed through the thicket of tall birch trees seemed like a murmured singing voice, sweeping away the complete disorder of the night before. This forest deeply hid unimaginable scary beasts, yet humans filled with hopes also walked through it. If there was an unknown beginning when entering the forest, then when Jing Xia and others walked out of the forest, they already had a clear-cut goal.

Different from Jing Xia’s flustered actions, Ji Chuancheng seemed to be an experienced person who was long already proficient at controlling his ability. Clearly, he had only just awakened his ability, yet he could perfectly control every blaze’s angle and size. Simultaneously while clearing roadblocks, he could also not trigger fires.

They’ve walked for nearly two months yet leaving only took a day.

When Jing Xia raised his foot to step into the recently cleanly washed Land Rover, he could not help but turn around to look at this dense, prosperous mountain forest range behind him. The continuous, unending mountain range and the verdant, lush vegetation hid all the danger. It was tranquil as if nothing had happened before.

Profoundly staring fixedly at it for a long while, Jing Xia suddenly turned around and bent down to enter the car.

“Jiji!Jiji!”

With a “bang”, the little black dumpling that had staunchly lied on Jing Xia’s head and refused to leave; was hit by the car roof onto the ground. It dizzily rubbed its small head and got up from the ground. Before it could react, the car’s engine started to buzz.

The little black dumpling immediately widened its mung bean eyes and hurriedly prepared to get in the car. Just as it had bounced a few times, before it had jumped onto the car, it heard a loud and clear sound of the door closing. Then the black Land Rover ruthlessly whizzed away, leaving only the car exhaust.

“QAQ Jiji……”

The little black dumpling that was always disdained on the whole journey now held its small head and looked at the dust in front with grievance. Although it has not yet evolved to the point where it could understand why these humans entered this strange guy’s stomach, but the little black dumpling could faintly feel——

These humans…… are really going to abandon it this time.

No matter how much it shamelessly freeloaded, not willing to leave, at this time, the little black dumpling could only squat on the ground alone. It blinked its small eyes and sniffled, feeling wronged.

Hmph…… he, Granduncle Mouse, doesn’t want to go with this crowd of hateful humans! He is Granduncle Mouse, not bringing along Granduncle Mouse is you, humans’ loss! You go, quickly go, go……

“QAQ Jijijiji……”

The entirety of the rodent’s head was buried in dust. Just as the little black dumpling was sullen, crying in its heart, suddenly it felt a pair of warm hands carried it up. The little black dumpling immediately raised its head, astonishedly blinking its eyes, “Jiji?!”

Jing Xia wrinkled his eyebrows and said with disdain, “You managed to get dirt all over your face, really damn dirty.”

“Jiji!JIjijiji!!!!”

Bah! You’re the one who’s dirty!!!
