Chapter Twelve: I like beautiful women and not-so-smart men!
Tang Chong stared at him with wide eyes, dumbfounded by his smug face, thinking: Can it really be like this?
Is this—going to be the high-achieving student of the psychology department he’s about to enter?
At that moment, Tang Chong felt an urge to turn around and leave.
Even if he didn’t want to leave Nandu University, this prestigious old school in China, he had to find a way to change his major first—Chinese, Economics and Management, Arts, Architecture, even Archaeology would do. Just not Psychology.
It’s too misleading!
The 'psychology master' opposite him clearly didn’t sense Tang Chong’s current mood or his conflicted thoughts. Instead, he enthusiastically extended his hand and said, "Classmate, I guessed right, didn’t I?"
"---Not bad." Tang Chong didn’t know how to answer this difficult question and could only give a perfunctory response.
He reached out and shook his hand, only to feel a thick layer of sticky liquid on his palm. He wasn’t sure if it was sweat from the heat or saliva he hadn’t wiped off his mouth earlier---
"This is the magic of psychology." The 'psychology master' didn’t forget to boast about the greatness and uniqueness of their department in front of this 'novice.' "Classmate, I’m not boasting. Psychology is a science most closely related to human happiness. As long as you study in our department for a few years, after graduation, you’ll be able to navigate social situations with ease, becoming the center of attention. You’ll be able to work efficiently, becoming a trusted aide to your boss, making your career flourish. You’ll be able to constantly improve yourself in the midst of ordinariness and loneliness, advancing step by step to embrace ultimate success---and even use psychology to attract girls."
"Think about it, if you like a girl, you can understand her personality and thoughts based on her every move, every word, even the clothes she wears, a new hairstyle, and then take targeted actions to court her---what kind of girl can you not attract? What kind of man can be your rival? Classmate, you’re a bug."
The 'psychology master' pointed to his slightly distorted face and asked seriously, "Do you think I’m different?"
Seeing his seriousness, Tang Chong nodded with an even more serious expression.
"This guy isn’t just different. He’s a performance genius." Tang Chong thought. "If he played Tang Xin, he would definitely be better than me."
"Good. This is the charm of psychology." The 'psychology master' said excitedly. "Look at my face. I’m not a handsome guy, and I’m not particularly outstanding in a crowd---if I hadn’t used the professional knowledge I learned in class to identify you as a **s, would you have been impressed by me?"
Tang Chong shook his head.
"Exactly." The 'psychology master' patted Tang Chong’s arm affectionately and said, "Classmate, work hard. One day, you can be like me."
"---I will work hard." Tang Chong felt his facial muscles might be twitching because he found it hard to speak smoothly.
The 'psychology master' was very satisfied with Tang Chong’s attitude. He then opened Tang Chong’s admission notice and looked through it, saying, "You’re Tang Chong?---Tang Chong, I’ll register you first, then take you to the finance office to pay the fees. After that, I’ll take you to the dormitory management center to get your room number and settle you in. Then a student counselor will contact you."
"Thank you." Tang Chong said gratefully. This time, he was genuinely grateful because he knew these seniors, who were one or two years ahead, were sincerely helping, and the school wouldn’t give them any financial incentives or special benefits.
And the annual welcoming work was a very arduous and tiring task. To make the freshmen feel the warmth of spring and alleviate the loneliness of being away from home and separated from their parents, some seniors even had to help students carry luggage, pull suitcases, and climb stairs with heavy bags---
What? You haven’t experienced such treatment?
Please, seniors only help female students. Which senior would be silly enough to help male students?
Students had to pay fees uniformly at the finance office, so when Tang Chong and the 'master' arrived, there was already a long queue.
Nandu University knew it would be a 'windfall' today, so it cooperated with the local Industrial and Commercial Bank, which sent over twenty staff members to help, setting up more than a dozen payment windows.
This way, even though the queue was long, the work progressed very quickly.
Of course, collecting money is always faster than giving it out.
The man in front of Tang Chong was one of the bodyguards of the doll-like student. Tang Chong didn’t have the heart to chat with him but had a pleasant conversation with the 'master.'
"I see other departments are bustling, but ours is so quiet. Have people already come to register?"
"Of course. How many students do other departments recruit? How many does ours recruit?" The 'master' stood next to Tang Chong, moving slowly forward with him. "Take the Economics and Management Department, for example. They have several major specialties, with a total enrollment of three thousand students. Our department? Last year, we recruited sixty students, divided into two classes."
"How many are recruiting this year?" Tang Chong asked.
"This year, we’re recruiting one hundred and twenty students." The 'master' said. "It’s said that each class will have forty students, divided into three classes. The number of new students has doubled, which is a large-scale expansion."
"---"
"Don’t underestimate our department. We’ve produced many talents." The 'master' explained hurriedly, worried that Tang Chong might think the psychology department was too small. "You know Wang Qikui, right? A world-renowned psychology master who charges a thousand dollars an hour for psychological therapy---"
"That’s not bad." Tang Chong nodded.
"Right." The 'master' said. "My goal is to become a psychology master like Wang Qikui, charging a thousand dollars an hour for psychological therapy."
"You will have your day." Tang Chong said something he didn’t even believe himself, feeling extremely guilty and quickly changing the subject. "Since the enrollment has expanded so much this year, why haven’t I seen any students coming to register?"
"There are. We’ve already received over a dozen this morning." The 'master' defended.
"---"
Tang Chong was speechless. He saw other departments with dozens or even hundreds of students gathered. Some departments even prepared several tricycles to transport students’ luggage.
When it was Tang Chong’s turn, he handed over the prepared tuition fee through the window, received a thin receipt, and officially became a member of Nandu University.
"Let’s go. I’ll take you to the dormitory management center to get your room number." The 'master' said.
"Room number? Isn’t it assigned by class?" Tang Chong asked.
"It should be assigned by department." The 'master' explained patiently, like other seniors welcoming new students. "For example, in our Psychology Department, you have three classes. The boys from these three classes will live together, and the girls will live together. Each dormitory will have four people---it’s possible that all four in a dormitory are from the same class, or it could be students from three different classes. This is arranged based on the order of registration. But don’t worry, the dormitory conditions are quite good."
Tang Chong’s room number was 6#307, which meant the 307 room in Building 6. With the 'master’s' guidance, Tang Chong easily found his little nest.
The 'master' didn’t lie; the dormitory conditions were indeed good.
Two sets of bunk beds, four desks for placing computers and books.
A private bathroom and a small balcony. The room was about 70-80% new, seemingly not used for many years. However, no one had moved in yet, and there was a layer of dust on the beds and desks.
"Tang Chong, this is your dormitory. Tidy up and rest well. Your counselor will contact you later and tell you some important matters. I’ll go back to the registration office. There might be more new students coming."
"Thank you." Tang Chong smiled. "Master---you’ve helped me so much, but I don’t even know your name."
The 'master' reached for his work badge around his neck, only to realize he hadn’t worn it.
He scratched his messy hair and said, "I’m Wang Aiguo. I’m one year ahead of you, in the Applied Psychology major. I see you’re also studying Applied, so we’ll have many opportunities to work together."
"Alright. Let’s keep in touch. I’ll treat you to a meal once I settle in." Tang Chong said.
"Sure." Wang Aiguo agreed readily. "Tang Chong, I don’t know why, but I feel a strange sense of familiarity with you. I think we’re kindred spirits---"
"Really?" Tang Chong squinted and smiled. "I also feel like we hit it off at first sight."
"Then we must become sworn brothers one day." Wang Aiguo laughed and left Tang Chong’s dormitory.
Looking around at the bed, the desks, and everything in the room, Tang Chong smiled contentedly.
A good start.
Tang Chong likes beautiful women and not-so-smart men.
On the first day, he met them all.
