After the previous separation, these vibrant students appreciated the value of cherishing the present even more. Pao*Shu*Ba
In the past, after each day of military training, everyone felt exhausted and cursed the instructor for being cruel and harsh.
Now, everyone seemed to have boundless energy. Without the instructor saying anything, they raised their own standards significantly.
Strive for the first place!
This became their new slogan.
After a day of military training, after singing the pre-meal song, the four roommates from Dorm 307 sat down again in the second cafeteria.
"Liu An Hua Ming," Liang Tao sighed. "I didn't expect Instructor Li to come back. It shows that the leaders of the military unit still have a human touch and listened to the voices of the grassroots."
"An unexpected surprise," Li Yu also said.
"Hey, I didn't even have the nerve to tell you guys, but I called the commander of that military unit. I said, 'Commander, Li Tieshu is a good comrade, we all like him. Just keep him here.' So, Instructor Li stayed," Hua Ming said while chewing on a chicken wing and boasting.
Liang Tao laughed and said, "Why didn't you just ask him to send us a beautiful female instructor?"
Hua Ming was taken aback and said, "Right. Why didn't I think of that?"
Because Hua Ming's performance was so convincing, as if he really had called the commander, everyone laughed until they fell off their chairs.
Hua Ming also laughed, not forgetting to gnaw on the chicken wing in his hand.
Tang Zhong had already run three laps, but the girl still hadn't appeared. This made Tang Zhong feel a bit disappointed.
Fortunately, Li Yu was still following him, which made him even more disappointed.
He knew that the girl had sprained her calf. A girl's body is precious, and even with medication, it might take a few days to recover.
Moreover, he had accidentally injured her eye. Girls care about their appearance, so even if her leg healed, she wouldn't show up.
So, Tang Zhong ran alone.
Five laps, six laps, seven laps...
When Li Yu reached the sixth lap, he couldn't keep up and sat on the steps to watch Tang Zhong run.
After Tang Zhong finished fifteen laps and did several sets of frog jumps and one-handed push-ups, the two of them went to the cafeteria for breakfast.
In the early morning, the sky was still a bit gray.
Before Tang Zhong and Li Yu finished their breakfast, it started to drizzle outside.
The wind picked up, and it grew stronger.
The wind and rain intensified, and a heavy downpour began.
"Ah, ah, ah!"
Someone stood at the cafeteria door and shouted loudly. They knew that with such heavy rain, there would be no military training.
Even Tang Zhong was happy, finally getting a day off.
The two of them rushed into the rain with Hua Ming and Liang Tao's breakfast. By the time they reached the dormitory, they were drenched.
Sure enough, the counselor, Li Qiang, was going from room to room to announce that there would be no military training today. Every time he entered a room, there would be a chorus of cheers.
Li Qiang pushed open the door to Dorm 307 and said with a smile, "I guess you already know. Those guys are shouting so loudly—no training today. You can rest well."
"Ooh," Hua Ming and Liang Tao also shouted in response.
Li Qiang pointed at Tang Zhong and said, "Come with me for a moment."
Tang Zhong was puzzled but still stood up and followed Li Qiang out.
"Mr. Li, is there something?" Tang Zhong asked.
"Do you have anything planned for today?" Li Qiang asked with a smile.
"I just received the notice that there's no training today, so I haven't made any plans," Tang Zhong said.
"Good. Go to the dean's office. The dean wants to see you," Li Qiang said.
"Okay," Tang Zhong replied.
"Go now. Don't be too late," Li Qiang instructed. Because of this student, Li Qiang had a direct line to Dean Jiao Yuheng. He knew this was his chance, so he had to do everything the dean asked.
"Okay. I'll take a shower and change clothes," Tang Zhong said.
"Good. Don't keep the dean waiting," Li Qiang agreed.
Tang Zhong entered the dormitory, and Hua Ming asked urgently, "Second, what did Mr. Li call you out for?"
"He wants me to go to the dean's office," Tang Zhong said.
"Ah, it's the dean calling you in," Hua Ming said, relieved. "Say hello to the dean for me."
"Sure," Tang Zhong said with a smile.
"Ah, poor Second. I was just thinking about going downstairs to buy a deck of cards and playing an upgrade game with the four of us. I didn't expect Second to have something to do," Liang Tao said regretfully.
"Buy the cards first. I'll be back soon," Tang Zhong said.
After taking a shower and changing into dry clothes, Tang Zhong borrowed an umbrella from the neighboring dormitory and ran to the office building.
The rain grew heavier, and even with the umbrella, it was hard to stay dry.
When Tang Zhong reached the office building hall, his shoes and half of his pants were soaked.
Standing at the door of the dean's office, he knocked on the door, and Dean Jiao Yuheng's voice said, "Come in."
Tang Zhong entered the office and noticed a girl sitting in front of Jiao Yuheng's large desk, her back to him. Tang Zhong felt the back view was familiar, but she didn't turn around, so he couldn't see her face.
"Teacher, you called me?" Tang Zhong asked with a smile.
"Yes," Jiao Yuheng nodded and smiled, pointing to the corner. "Put the umbrella on the stand. Come and sit down."
"Okay," Tang Zhong placed the umbrella and then sat down in front of Jiao Yuheng.
"Dean, you called me?" Tang Zhong looked surprised at Jiao Nanxin. "Why are you here?"
Jiao Nanxin pursed her lips and didn't bother to answer his silly question.
If you can come, why can't I?
"Are you acquainted?" Jiao Yuheng looked puzzled, glancing at Tang Zhong and then at Jiao Nanxin. The last time Tang Zhong came, Nanxin wasn't there. When did they meet?
"We know each other," Jiao Nanxin said through gritted teeth. "Even if he turned to ashes, I'd still recognize him. The black eye and the sprained leg of your granddaughter are his doing. How could I not recognize him?"
Granddaughter?
Tang Zhong's head started to spin.
The girl he had punched, giving her a black eye, was Dean Jiao Yuheng's granddaughter?
"What?" Jiao Yuheng was furious. "You, you little brat, hurt our Nanxin? I thought it was someone else. How could you do this? Even if you don't consider my face, you shouldn't hit a woman."
Jiao Yuheng could tolerate anything else, but he couldn't tolerate anyone hurting his precious granddaughter.
When Jiao Nanxin returned with that appearance, he asked who had hurt her. But she insisted it was a door frame, which almost gave her grandmother a hypertensive crisis.
"Dean, it was a misunderstanding," Tang Zhong explained, looking embarrassed. If he had known this strong-willed girl was the teacher's precious granddaughter, he wouldn't have hit her in such an obvious place. Wouldn't that just give her an excuse to lash out?
If he had hit her in the chest, would she have the nerve to tell her grandfather that he had hurt her?
Learning from this valuable experience, Tang Zhong secretly vowed never to make such a low-level mistake again.
"What misunderstanding?" Jiao Yuheng couldn't sit still, jumping up from his chair in anger. "You beat her up like this, and you tell me it was a misunderstanding?"
"It really was a misunderstanding," Tang Zhong said. "At the time, I didn't know she was your granddaughter."
Slap
Jiao Yuheng slapped the table.
"So, if she wasn't your granddaughter, you could hit her? Even if she's not your granddaughter, she's someone else's granddaughter. I know you're good at fighting, but you shouldn't hit women. What? Are you going to punch me if I say something wrong?"
Pfft
Jiao Nanxin couldn't hold back and giggled, slapping her thigh. "Yes, Grandpa, he's dangerous. You should kick him out. Otherwise, if he gets angry, he might hit you too. Your old arms and legs can't take such a beating."
"Are you still talking?" Jiao Yuheng turned to scold his granddaughter. "Among so many people, why did Tang Zhong only hit you? What did you do? Did you just get bored and go hit her?"
Jiao Nanxin rolled her eyes. "Old man, who are you siding with?"
"I'm on the side of justice," Jiao Yuheng shouted. "Tang Zhong, tell me what happened."
Tang Zhong smiled bitterly. "Let her tell it."
"There's nothing to tell," Jiao Nanxin said. "I challenged him to a fight. He said he didn't know martial arts, but he hit me in the eye when I wasn't prepared."
Jiao Yuheng stared at Tang Zhong with wide eyes, thinking, "This guy is really a brute, using such a low trick?"
"Dean, it's not like that," Tang Zhong quickly defended himself. "She challenged me to a fight, and I said I didn't know martial arts. Then she attacked me from behind. You know I'm sensitive. When I felt a strong wind from behind, I turned and punched. I didn't expect to hit her in the eye."
"Where else did you want to hit?" Jiao Nanxin glared at Tang Zhong, asking coldly.
"If I had hit her in the hair, it would have been better," Tang Zhong laughed. "As a student of the dean, I wouldn't stoop to fighting a girl."
"You..." Jiao Nanxin was furious. What did he mean?
He was using his grandfather as a shield, implying that a student of the dean wouldn't hit a woman. If she contradicted him, it would mean saying her grandfather had poor judgment in choosing students.
"Alright, alright," seeing the two of them glaring at each other, ready to fight, Jiao Yuheng quickly mediated. "Ignorance is no excuse in the past, but now that you know each other, this must not happen again. Tang Zhong is my student, and Nanxin is my granddaughter. You two must work together and help each other. Tang Zhong, as a man, should take care of Nanxin."
"Yes, teacher," Tang Zhong bowed his head in acceptance.
"I don't need his care," Jiao Nanxin said angrily. "When I recover, we'll fight again. You made me look like a panda, I'll make you look like a pig's head."
