Five Years In The Blink Of An Eye

Zou Yun silently sat on the railing, rubbing her chest. There was a bit of bitterness, a bit of pain, as well as something else there. The few different feelings mixed together, creating an indescribable feeling.

She had been rejected, just as she expected.

Zou Yun’s object of confession was her childhood friend, Yun Yi.

The two of them had grown up together in the orphanage, supporting each other, and their relationship was very god. They were friends, and also one another’s kin. However, Yun Yi seemed to always treat her like a brother.

Zou Yun thought that it was no wonder. She looked like a man, especially cool and handsome, was flat chested, and even her personality was cool. Plus her voice was also low and magnetic. She truly didn’t seem like a woman.

Furthermore after finishing lower secondary, she ran off to go to a military school, then after graduating went to a gym to become a Judo teacher, being honoured with the title of ‘the hottest male teacher’ for three years in a row.

Countless girls had even bought the gym’s yearly pass just to get to see her more often.

“Are you kidding me! I treat you as my bro, yet you actually want to me!” Yun Yi’s lips and voice was quivering.

That wasn’t the case. She only purely liked him and wanted to date him and hold his hand.

Zou Yun looked at at Yun Yi’s pale face. She held in her words. He seemed to have been dealt a huge blow, already angered to the point of speechlessness. She didn’t want to agitate him further.

After all, Yun Yi was different from her. His looks had been outstanding since young, with all five features exquisite and extremely well liked by all. He often received chocolates and other small snacks made by girls. His personality was also very good because after receiving them, he would always generously share half of it with her.

As for her…

Once, two good friends pushed and pulled and encouraged one another to confess. One love letter was given to Yun Yi, the other to her. In the end, after knowing that she was a girl, one of the girls felt so aggrieved that she started crying, turned, then immediately ran off.

The memory was etched deep into her mind even to this day. Part of the reason that the chocolate biscuit was delicious and really suited her taste. Of course, after she received the biscuit, she also gave half to Yun Yi.

“Is today April Fools’ Day? You’re purposely playing with me and kidding me right?” Yun Yi pulled his lips, managing to reveal a smile. “You know that I’ve recently been acting a minor role in a television series, then was fancied by the director and given the role of the third male lead, that’s why you wanted to celebrate for a bit? The idea’s actually quite special.”

If it were another person, they would probably take the chance to smooth over the topic and say, “Hahaha, its just a joke, did you really believe it? You totally fell for my joke~”

But Zou Yun was different. She shook her head hard, then looked at Yun Yi and earnestly replied, “I like you, and have liked you for a very very long time. I’m not joking. You can seriously consider before answering me. No matter what the answer is, I will calmly accept it.

After being silent for a long time, Yun Yi lowered his head. He quietly uttered, “I’m sorry.”

Why apologise? She never thought it’d succeed in the first place. She only held a ‘even if its a one in ten thousand percent chance, she still wanted to try’ conviction and only wished to tell her real thoughts to the person she liked.

“No need to apologise, never mind if you don’t accept it.” Zou Yun paused, turning her head to look at the scenery with her back towards Yun Yi. “I can’t face you right now. I’ll first move out of the rented house and find another place to stay in for the time being, then after a few days go out and travel to take my mind of things. If you cant find me then, don’t miss me too much.”

Zou Yun joked, trying her best to fake a normal expression. Even though, her heart was still aching.

Hesitating for a while, Yun Yi probed cautiously, “I rejected you, so are you very angry? Plan to ignore me for the rest for you life?”

Everything was pithing her expectations, there was no need to get angry.

Zou Yun stuck her hands into her pockets, shrugging, “Nope, I’m not that petty. I already made the decision to apply for winter vacation before confessing. If the confession is a success, then I’ll stay with you for filming and play for a few days. If it fails, then I’ll go out and travel solo, better my mood.”

Yun Yi secretly let out a sigh of relief. The emotions in his pupils fluctuated. He gazed deeply at Zou Yun. ”Promise me, after you feel better, everything will be the same as before and we are still friends.”

“Let’s talk when I get back.” Zou Yun drifted over his question.

‘how to interact with the person you like like a normal person’; to her, the level of difficulty of this problem was rather high to her.

She wasn’t angry about being rejected, but she wasn’t willing to make promises either, because, with her temper, either the two of them happily get together or break contact and never meet again.

She didn’t like being in an unclear ambiguous area.

“Have fun, I’ll be in waiting in the rented house for you.” Yun Yi stubbornly said.

Since he didn’t like her, why say words like ‘he’ll wait for her’?

Zou Yun pushed her hair aside. She didn’t understand but still just casually agreed, “Got it.”

Zou Yun thought, perhaps due to the fact that this year was her zodiac year, nothing was going well recently.

First was her confession being rejected, afterwards she found a two room old flat with a living room and a bedroom for seven hundred yuan a month, which was originally agreed upon for the rent to be paid for three months first with no deposit, but then the house’s owner suddenly changed his mind and said to pay for half a year first and even wanted a deposit.

Zou Yun considered the fact that she had already moved out of the place her and Yun Yi lived together in and had no place to stay the night. Plus the new place was a short distance away from the old she didn’t need to familiarise herself with a new environment, the monthly rent was suitable, and so agreed.

When she finished cleaning up the house, she quickly booked a luxury cruise ship vacation, packed some simple luggage, then brought the necessary identification and boarded the cruise ship.

**

“Since you’ve already asked for a day off to send her off, why not go and meet her?” Zhu Gong moved the large sunglasses that covered half her face, lowering her voice as she asked the person beside her.

“No need. Even if we meet, I don’t know what to say.” Yun Yi lightly said. As he looked at the cruise ship that Zou Yun was on, deep affection burned in his eyes.

“Zeze.” A playful smile surfaced on Zhu Gong’s face. “The person you’ve loved since childhood confessed to you, yet you actually can bare to reject her and let her go on a cruise alone. Yun Yi, my opinion of you has changed again.”

“Isn’t it agreed upon? I’m not to be involved any scandals for three years. For that, you spend resources on me and put your all into making me famous.” Yun Yi stared at the cruise ship, his tone extremely convicted. “I need money, lots and lots of money. Since being famous can let me earn loads of money, then working hard to become famous is what I should do. Everything else has to make way.”

Only by earning enough money could he buy a house that belonged to the both of them. That way, Yun Yi didn’t need to work that hard, working alongside a bunch of men all day long.

He told himself, he only had three years to strive on. During these three years, he wanted to work hard, catching hold of all chances he had to climb upwards. Three years later, no matter if he was popular or not, rich or not, he wanted to be together with Zou Yun.

Zhu Gong looked at the big child, revealing a sliver of a smile.

There were many good looking people in the circle, the same going for those who worked extremely hard, yet people who owned both qualities were rare and in between. She seemed to have picked up a treasure.

Zou Yun decided to go travelling to boost her mood, yet she didn’t expect that misfortune would follow along.

Half an hour after the cruise ship started off, Zou Yun sat on the deck and enjoyed the sea breeze as she looked around. The air was very clear, and with a look at the sea of dark green, even her mood was lifted up.

Suddenly, she noticed an attendant speed walking towards the cabin with an unsettled expression on his face.

Zou Yun initially didn’t take it to heart, until the moment she casually glanced around and found that not a single attendant was to be found all around. That was when a hind of suspicion arouse in her heart, feeling that something was off.

When she’d first purchased the ticket, the worker had enthusiastically given an introduction to her. She obviously heard the person say that, no matter when, there would always be at least two attendants on the deck.

All of a sudden, an announcement sounded and a stranger spoke through the broadcasting system, “The cruise ship ran into a submerged reef and is sinking right now! The people from the steamer company are planning to take the lifeboat and run away alone right now after finding out that something went wrong! Everyone quick stop them!”

When the others heard the announcement, some panicked and were at a loss while others started screaming loudly. The entire situation turned into a big mess.

Zou Yun gazed towards the lifeboat area from the deck as expected found the few people scrambling aboard the lifeboat to look fairly familiar. It was the ship captain and the rest.

She quickly made a decision. The lifeboat had already been snatched away and there was no time to stop them anymore. Thus, she immediately ran back to her room.

Her luck had been terrible recently and before boarding her eyelid had been jumping nonstop. That was why, she specifically brought a life ring with her before boarding!

Zou Yun flipped open her parcel, letting out a sigh of relief when she saw that the life ring was still there. She hugged the life ring and directly jumped into the water.

At this moment, she could help celebrating. Good thing she brought the life ring, luckily she’d taken some time to learn swimming.

**

Zou Yun followed the direction of the lifeboat as she floated. She would tightly hug the lifeboat when she was tired and rest for a while, then when she regained a bit of energy, she would swim in the direction she was sure of.

Zou Yun had fallen asleep a few times before. After floating for an unknown amount of time, she found that much to her delight, she could finally see a familiar shoreline!

Zou Yun swam hard. The moment she was out of the water, she collapsed onto a large rock nearby and started gasping for air, feeling as if she was finally alive again.

But… Zou Yun fixed her hair, feeling rather despondent. Her phone was gone, her wallet was gone, her keys were gone, how was she supposed to return to the rented house? Asking strangers if she could borrow their phones weren’t reliable, who knew if shed be taken as a conman.

Never mind, since this place wasn’t that far away from Yun Yi’s rented house, she’d just find him for help.

While spurning herself for being a good for nothing in her heart, Zou Yun hid in a corner and waited for her clothes to dry naturally in the sun.

When it was around 80% dry, she climbed up and slowly started walking back to the rented house. luckily, the apartment was old and the front gate had long lost power. She could open the door even if she hadn’t a key card.

Zou Yun sat on the stairs to the apartment, waiting quietly.

After waiting for a while, she lightly wrinkled her brows. Was it a misconception? She felt that the place was even more scrappy.

suddenly, the sound of footsteps echoed. Zou Yun grew delighted, because just by listening to the footsteps, she could tell that Yun Yi was back.

“My wallet, phone, and keys are gone, can I stay a night here…” Her voice automatically died in her throat halfway through. Zou Yun stared blankly at Yun Yi. His eyes were completely bloodshot and his beard was extremely messy. His face was pale too, and he looked extremely haggard.

Was he worried that something had happened to here, that’s why he wasn’t able to get proper sleep? Zou Yun felt slightly guilty, slightly upset. She wouldn’t have gone travelling if she knew.

Yun Yi stared at the person in front of him, dumbfounded, as if he didn’t dare believe that she was real.

After a long while, he slowly spoke, his voice hoarse. “You said you were going travelling to get your mind off things, but then vanished for five years and cut off all communication. Did you go globetrotting by foot?!”

Five years? Zou Yun was stunned.

I actually wanted to continue TL-ing this, but… halfway through reading I didn’t like it that much anymore lolol.
