Names mentioned in this chapter (which can also be found in the glossary ):

-俞知乐( yú zhī lè )- Yu Zhi Le, the female protagonist.

-余子涣( yú zǐ huàn )- Yu Zi Huan, the male lead

-小亮( xiǎo liàng ) – Xiao Liang, the young boy living in the apartment where the female lead stayed in 2015

Yu Zhi Le limped towards the door of her house and took out the key shakingly. She didn’t manage to put the key into the keyhole several times. Slowly, she recovered a little from the fluster and noticed the rust on the anti-theft door seemed to be lesser. It even looked more brand new. She froze for a few seconds and stood up from the posture of bending down to open the door. She raised her head slowly and stiffly to look around.

Although it was still the corridor she entered in and out in the past two days, there were some subtle differences.

For example, the walls were not so dirty, the windows were not so grey, and there were not so many sundries in the corridor.

In short, everything looks newer, with a different vitality from the past.

Yu Zhi Le stared blankly for a moment. Suddenly, there was a lot of movement behind the door. A boy that was about ten years old opened the door and rushed out abruptly as he held a dirty football. As he rushed out of the house, he didn’t notice Yu Zhi Le, who was standing at the door. Leaving Yu Zhi Le, whose brain was frozen staring foolishly at the young woman who was behind the young boy.

“Remember to come back for dinner later…” When the young woman saw Yu Zhi Le, the imposing manner of shouting towards the boy disappeared in an instant. She awkwardly pulled her loose hair behind her ear and squeezed out a smile. “Hello, are you the teacher from Xiao Liang’s school? Xiao Liang hasn’t been in trouble at school recently, right?”

Yu Zhi Le looked down at the formal clothes she was wearing to seek employment. She understood that the other party had misunderstood her. She quickly shook her head and explained, “No, I’m not a teacher.”

As soon as the young woman heard this, she was less tense and smiled more naturally, “I’m sorry, I thought it was Xiao Liang’s teacher who came to visit our home. I made you see a joke about myself.”

While the young woman was talking, Yu Zhi Le glanced at the house several times and noticed that although the layout of the apartment was the same as her rented apartment, she could not see anything that belonged to her. It was all traces of the life of the three members of the family.

When she glanced over again, she noticed the calendar hanging on the wall, clearly printed with four huge numbers – 2005.

Yu Zhi Le’s brains were buzzing. She couldn’t hear what the young woman was saying. She grabbed the young woman’s arm and asked anxiously, “What year is it currently?”

The young woman was taken aback by the abrupt question, but she answered truthfully, “2005.”

Initially, Yu Zhi Le was hoping that she got the wrong door. But her hope was torn into pieces after noticing the hanging calendar, which was ten years ago. The young woman seemed to have asked several questions when she saw that she was in a daze, but Yu Zhi Le was so dizzy that nothing could be heard. After giving a few random responses, she went downstairs dazedly as the young woman stared at her concernedly.

She went down to the first floor and opened the iron gate, which the paint did not peel as much as ten years later. The sunset at the end of June had not completely set, but Yu Zhi Le’s eyes could only see darkness.

How could this happen?

She finally managed to finish attending university. How could she return to ten years ago before she even started a new life?

She slumped down on the community bench. Yu Zhi Le felt like weeping, but she had no tears, and her mind drifted to looking at the passers-by coming and going. It was as if there was an invisible barrier in front of her, which separated her from the people and things belonging to ten years ago.

Her situation now is worse than the previous two days. At least in 2015, she had an identity and education, and returning home was her last resort. Now, her ID card states that she was born in 1993. This meant that she is 12 years old this year.

Twelve years old! Who dares to hire her?

Also, no one would believe that she was twelve. The issue in this problem is that she has become an unregistered household. She has an educational background that cannot be used, and she has relatives, yet she couldn’t approach them. Otherwise, what would happen to the real twelve-year-old self?

As Yu Zhi Le considered these issues, she felt that these issues would involve philosophical problems such as the origin of the universe and the nature of time. Her brain capacity wasn’t enough. As she thought about it a little, she felt that she couldn’t lift her head.
