Chapter 2094: Get The Good Rooms

4 min read1,071 words

The chaos in town when the prizes were announced caused an instant flood of Immortals to the Darklight Host.

It was still nearly a week away, but those who had linked their cities with a portal knew that the hotels would fill up fast, and they wanted to get the good rooms instead of checking the board for room shares or bed and breakfast options run by the Guild members.

There would be plenty of those, Lycans were pack creatures, and they loved taking people in.

The problem was that the love of taking people in, and the ability to cook didn’t always go together, and it was rude to turn down breakfast from the hosts. So, if they served you something that was borderline inedible, you just had to pick at it and tell them you had a light appetite in the morning.

That wasn’t much of an issue among the Blackwoods Pack. There were cooking lessons available to anyone who wanted them, and there was a small army of people who had actual chef skills.

But the visitors didn’t know that.

Eryman noticed the influx of people even from within the separate space where he was being bombarded with snacks by eager bunnies, who wanted outside feedback on their new recipes.

They strongly suspected that Karl would spare their feelings if it was not good, and Cara would eat anything at all without complaint.

They had seen her taste test chunks of ore.

Dana was too nice to be mean to the bunnies, and the little dragons were all gluttons.

So, it was down to Remi, who had no taste buds that they could determine, and the residents of the Tiny World, whose preferences they already knew. That made chances like this very important to the success of their businesses in the city and the arena.

"Did something happen? I sense a lot of powerful Immortals rushing to the city right now," he asked the bunny holding a new pitcher of juice.

Lala nodded eagerly, "We just had the guards put up the posters with the tournament prizes all over the city. That’s got everyone super stoked about the upcoming fights, and they’re all racing to town to try to get the best hotel rooms.

You see, the Dollhouse is super fancy, but the rooms are limited.

The Lycan’s Den is less fancy, and more lively, but the rooms are small and cramped. It was made to be the budget option, so the rooms are in layered pocket dimensions for more capacity, but each of them is no larger than this sitting room."

The Legend frowned. The sitting room wasn’t actually small. It had room for three sofas, a fireplace, bookshelves on the walls, and a work table area, plus the spot by the door where the servants waited.

If it was a hotel room, it would definitely rank on the higher end of the "Budget" category for space. Plus, he strongly suspected that the rooms were not the single hard bed and a desk setup that most travellers Inns furnished.

He was right, the rooms at the Lycan’s Den were themed to look like small Lycan Hunting Lodges, and they actually had a small kitchen area plus a private shower, which most budget inns lacked.

When you entered, each door actually opened to a small hallway, with rooms down either side.

That was where the separate space started, and each of the rooms was part of the space behind that door. Meaning that while the hotel only appeared to have twenty rooms, it actually had two hundred.

Still not nearly enough for the crowd that was coming.

However, the ones who had stayed there before knew that you didn’t have to stick to one person to a room. You could bring three or four friends with sleeping rolls and let them crash on the floor of your hotel room.

They didn’t even charge extra.

Partially because Andrea liked to have more people to spill secrets within the hotel, and partially because the real money was not from the rooms, but from the food and drinks at the Tavern downstairs.

They delivered food to the rooms as well, which was uncommon among Inns of that type, but the Tavern got so busy some nights that it was impossible to hear yourself think, much less find an open table to eat at.

So, many preferred to eat in their room and then come down to drink.

Eryman extended his senses into the city, and nodded in understanding. "I see now. It’s not an attack, despite the power level, it’s just the rush to get more of your cooking."

The bunny giggled. "In fact, we are in charge of the kitchens at the hotels. But we don’t do all the cooking, there are constructs there who have been given system skills for the task. They do the bulk work, and then we do the special treats."

Eryman smiled. "I see now. Asking you to make dinner for a thousand is a lot."

Lala shrugged. "The dinner special at the Lycan’s Den is stew and bread every day, and that’s what almost everyone orders unless they want more meat. It’s easy to make, but it’s more fun for us to go to the fancy restaurant at the Dollhouse and make things for the gourmet diners."

I bet that Karl can get you a meal pass if you want to go as a VIP and eat in the back room.

It’s nearly the Equinox, so we’ve already started the ritual dances between shows on the stage, and those are always popular."

The Legend looked stunned. "The Darklight Host allows Bunny God Fertility Dances inside their hotels?"

Lala nodded eagerly. "We dampen the magic for all but the late night shows, so things don’t get out of hand. But the back room is VIP only, and everyone there is powerful enough not to lose control when the blessing hits.

Besides, we’re only doing the public dances that we would do at festivals."

That was a relief to Eryman. He had seen what the disciples of the Bunny God could do even when they were still mortals. If they unleashed a full on Immortal Rank Blessing upon a packed hotel, nobody would be in any shape for the next day’s tournament, and the first day of the fights was the last day of the festival.
