Be Familiar Part 2
Once he finished speaking, Jiang Liangchan’s expression suddenly changed and Jiang Yunting felt relieved.
Jiang Liangchan’s expression turned indifferent because she recognized that name.
Hua Shan. That name felt too familiar.
Wasn’t that the white lotus of a ruthless male heroine?
After thinking for a while, Jiang Liangchan finally remembered where she had read that name. It was a part of the original novel when Jiang Liangchan began finding fault with Hua Shan.
Because of Liu Cheng’s words, the original Jiang Liangchan felt disgusted when she thought of someone who looked like her serving drinks in a brothel every day.
Of course, she went to the brothel intending to do something about it.
She specifically chose Hua Shan to serve her. Once she arrived, Jiang Liangchan did not waste any time in criticizing her.
The first three days had only subtle comments. By the end of the week, she openly tormented Hua Shan, even insisting that the waitress should be thrown outside.
Hua Shan was beautiful enough that the brothel intended to train her as a courtesan. How much glistening silver could such a beauty earn for the brothel every day? How could the brothel be willing to free her?
The brothel spent every effort possible to hide Hua Shan from Jiang Liangchan, but the young lady did not let it go. They had no other choice but to sell Hua Shan to an old eunuch at a high price. In the end, she was tortured to death.
Jiang Liangchan’s hands sweated profusely. She had transmitted into this novel right before that plot point began. She was supposed to start finding faults with Hua Shan tomorrow.
While she was still quietly thinking about how to deal with the progression of the novel’s plot, a noise caught her attention.
When she looked up, she saw that Jiang Yunting had turned around and was speaking to someone else. It was another interesting person.
Jiang Yunting was bullying Chen Fang.
That brother of hers was a disaster every day.
Before Chen Fang could walk out of the garden, she noticed what was wrong. The bundle of firewood he was carrying on his shoulder was too long. The part that hung to the ground was being trampled on.
More than one hundred kilograms of firewood was already heavy enough on the shoulders. On top of that, there was a person with evil intentions deliberately stepping on it and adding half the weight of an adult man.
Chen Fang wasn’t able to eat well, so his body was malnourished. His thin shoulders were almost crushed by the weight.
Shoulder injuries were very painful.
Chen Fang’s face didn’t look very good.
Jiang Yunting had a cocky expression on his face. His head was tilted to the side, obviously finding the situation very funny. “Hey, can you call this working? My sister’s yard is very clean. You dragged this piece of wood across it, look how many pieces fell to the ground!”
He pointed to a fallen twig with his foot. “Go and pick up all the wood you dropped while on your knees. Then carry it away. If you let it fall again, you’re not going to eat today.”
Chen Fang didn’t speak. His eyes were lowered, looking hazy.
This sly and overbearing young master of the Jiang Family was only skilled in spouting threats and oppressing people.
At first, he only watched Chen Fang. Then, he took a thick branch from the bundle of firewood and tapped Chen Fang’s shoulder. “Why are you still standing here? Are you deaf?”
Chen Fang’s vigilant eyes made Jiang Liangchan feel bitter inside, but she didn’t express it. Deliberately ignoring Chen Fang’s gaze, she calmly spoke to Jiang Yunting.
“This person is our older cousin from a distant branch who’s visiting our Jiang Family. Therefore, he should be treated the same as a young master of our Family.”
Jiang Liangchan had remembered that scene with great difficulty. What “older cousin from a distant branch”, that was just an identity made up on the spot for Chen Fang.
No one had called him so kindly before, including Jiang Liangchan. Before her rebirth, Jiang Liangchan was any less domineering than her brother Jiang Yunting.
Maybe the gods wanted to change the destinies of her and her family, so Jiang Liangchan had to face Chen Fang again. She tried being kind and boost his impression.
“Cousin, you’re too thin to be carrying such heavy things. Put down that wood, quickly! I’ll ask the East Kitchen to cook some more dishes with you. You’re still growing, how can you be so thin?”
Jiang Liangchan’s heart skipped a beat. Chen Fang looked shocked, but his eyes showed nothing but suspicion, vigilance and hidden thoughts.
She had expected some gratitude, maybe. But perhaps she wasn’t friendly enough to make him feel grateful to her. She tried remembering something else about him and tried a bit more.
“I can ask them to make you a steamed suckling pig with lotus leaf powder and roast chicken on a stove. Do you like it?”
Just as she stopped talking, her brother laughed. He draped his arm on her shoulder, amused. “Now I know why my sister’s temper changed today. She wanted me to eat the steamed suckling pig with lotus leaf powder together with Cousin!”
Chen Fang pursed his lips.
The subtle action made Jiang Liangchan confused. Was there something wrong?
It took a moment for the pieces to connect.
Steamed suckling pig with lotus leaf powder. Why did she choose this dish? Once the dish’s name came out if her brother’s mouth, it didn’t sound good anymore.
Hidden behind the names of dishes were terms used to punish people. That tactic was used against Chen Fang several times. Since she thoughtlessly mentioned a dish, she gave the appearance of deliberately using that tactic against Chen Fang.
Compared to Jiang Yunting, that made her seem even viler. That realization scared Jiang Liangchan into silence.
