Change The Fate
This is stupid.
Not only silly but also painstaking. Even if she did it, her character wouldn’t escape her demise.
She carefully pushed the door open and surveyed the place where Chen Fang lived. It was quite simple, reminding her of where she had lived in her college days.
In her last life, Jiang Liangchan was a poor college student. After her mother died her father remarried, but his new job demanded much of his time. His absence made her stepmother harbor ill feelings toward her, so her uncle took her in.
However, that wasn’t the solution either. Her aunt was very dissatisfied with her presence and complained about it every day. The constants fights between her uncle and her aunt were so frequent that, after a few days, Jiang Liangchan moved out on her own.
It was impossible to move to any good place. Jiang Liangchan was only a poor student. In the end, she lived in a damp basement on part-time job wages.
The place where Chen Fang lived was worse than that basement where she lived. If he lived like this, he probably wouldn’t have enough to eat at ordinary times, right?
Jiang Liangchan was feeling a little guilty, so she put her oiled paper bag on the shabby table in the room and left. She knew how hard it was to endure the taste of hunger.
Unbeknownst to her, there was a shadow watching her from the wall of the remote courtyard. It hung there, motionless, and waited until her figure was far away from the building before jumping down without a sound. At first glance, the man’s skill was undeniable.
The man pushed the door open and went inside. The faint light illuminated his young and handsome face. However, once the facial features were exposed by the light, the identity was revealed. It was Chen Fang.
His eyes fell on the oiled paper bag on the table. His first reaction was to throw it out.
Jiang Family’s siblings were well known to him. They were fond of practical jokes and delighted in watching people make a fool of themselves. No matter the beginning, the ending would always make people embarrassed or hurt.
The oiled paper bag must be the same as the lotus leaf steamed pig from earlier. Not a good sign.
Using the tip of his sword, he opened the bag. Inside was a fragrant roasted chicken. He carefully rummaged through it and discovered no organ or harmful powder, nor did it seem to be soaked in croton seeds.
[T/N: Croton seeds have toxic properties]
There was a saying that “Behind the red doors meat and wine go to waste, while out on the road lie the frozen bones of the poor—obscene lavishness and luxury.
[T/N: Chinese idiom.]
The Jiang siblings took delicacies, put some croton inside, sometimes even unpleasant things along with it. It made people sick and did not occur only once or twice.
The people living outside were starving. To them, anything thrown at random was good.
The Jiang Family didn’t know how many people’s blood, sweat and tears their greed sucked in. The young siblings of the Jiang Family committed many crimes, despite their age.
Chen Fang remembered the scene with Hua Shan in the backyard of the brothel.
During the day, he heard Jiang Yunting say the word “Hua Shan”. Later, Jiang Lianghan also covered it up, and his heart was even more suspicious.
In the evening, he went there to look.
The boss told him two masters came by earlier. It was obvious that one of them was wearing a disguise to appear as a man.
While they were there, they got into a fight with another man, who compared Hua Shan to a lady from a distinguished family. The lady in question was the disguised person.
Chen Fang was quite sure the young lady was Jiang Liangchan.
No wonder Jiang Liangchan tried to bury what happened. Even after covering it up, she still kept alert to any rumors. Perhaps she felt it was harmful to her reputation, somehow.
After living in the Jiang Family for a few years, he knew Jiang Liangchan very well. She wouldn’t eat that loss, so Hua Shan’s future might become full of danger.
Hua Shan once saved his life. He had to repay that kindness. Starting tomorrow, he would keep a good eye on Jiang Liangchan.
Chen Fang frowned at the paper bag. Grabbing it with one hand, he threw it to the corner of the room. He took a steamed bread out of his pocket and scarfed it down with a cup of cold water.
Done eating, he made sure to extinguish the candle and headed to the garden with his sword. It was time to practice the sword move he learned while passing by the training ground earlier.
Since Jiang Yunting wanted to be a general, Jiang Pingxuan invited a famous martial artist to teach him.
The teacher had been giving lessons for a long time, but Jiang Yunting still hadn’t learned the moves. Chen Fang, on the other hand, secretly stole the teacher’s knowledge and already had every move engraved in his mind.
Once night fell, when there was no one around, Chen Fang would follow his memory and practice.
He had been practicing for a while when the sound of footsteps reached him. Chen Fang grabbed his sword and hid in the shadow of a nearby tree, waiting for the person to pass.
He secretly practiced martial arts and sneaked out of the courtyard every day. He couldn’t afford being discovered by the Jiang Family.
He waited for the footsteps to fade before returning to practice. He only stopped once sweat poured out of every part of his body.
He filled a basin with water to scrub his body and, inexplicably, he remembered that Jiang Liangchan had sent him a paperback secretly.
At that moment, he had just returned from the outside. He had climbed over the wall to prevent being caught by anyone from the Jiang Family like he did every day.
As soon as he cleared the wall, he saw someone sneaking into his garden. He had no idea what she was thinking, so he leaned closer to the wall and waited.
Jiang Liangchan walked slowly, constantly checking the area. She seemed to be sneaking around and probably didn’t want to see him.
Chen Fang practiced martial arts all year round. He had good eyesight. He had noticed the branch in front of Jiang Lianchan long before she tripped. It was ironic how she looked in all directions clearly, but couldn’t see the branch right in front of her.
Naturally, she stumbled. Somehow, she kept a firm grip on the oiled paper bag and didn’t drop it. It was so curious, Chen Fang remembered how her thin fingers gripped the bag tightly.
Her soft, white fingers looked like they had never seen the sun nor touched anything rougher than water. He stared at his hands under the moonlight, contemplating. His fingers were rough from practicing martial arts all year round.
It wasn’t the same as Hua Shan’s soft hands but rough hands because of work.
That pair of beautiful hands… He didn’t know how many people had slapped them and tried to direct her to not do so many bad things.
He could still see the arrogance he knew she had, but something about her made him feel a little strange.
She appeared to be fierce while cowering inside her heart. She looked arrogant but became flustered very easily. Even when Jiang Yunting applauded her and said that steamed suckling pig with lotus leaf powder was good, she seemed to quiver in fear.
Very strange.
Just from being compared to a brothel woman, she had been so angry. If she had such a spirit hidden inside, starting tomorrow she’d be more vicious.
