Although he was not the slightest bit interested in the rewards mentioned by the big man, Zhang Chen obediently followed him into a minivan and headed towards the battle site.
In the car, Zhang Chen opened a virtual screen and checked his physical attributes.
Strength: 4 (5)
Agility: 3 (5)
Stamina: 7 (5)
Spirit: 6 (5)
The number 5 represented the physical data of a normal 30-year-old, while the other numbers were Zhang Chen's own physical data.
It seemed that these attributes were indeed Zhang Chen's own. Thinking about it, Liang Kun was just a skin Zhang Chen was wearing.
His strength and agility were slightly lacking, but his stamina and spirit were perhaps due to years of exercise, his naturally high IQ, and the fact that he had successfully navigated the intense college entrance exams, which kept his mind sharp.
Of course, these numbers were only for reference. If he really wanted to do something significant, improving his own attributes was inevitable.
Zhang Chen moved his arm and picked up a watermelon knife.
Suddenly, he felt a warm current flow through his arm, and the watermelon knife in his hand seemed to be connected to his body.
"Obtained: one ordinary watermelon knife, Strength +1, Agility +1."
A line of text appeared on the virtual screen. Zhang Chen checked his attributes again and found that they had indeed improved to 5, 4, 7, and 6, respectively.
"This is just an ordinary watermelon knife. What if it were a divine weapon?" Zhang Chen thought. "I remember in a movie with Tony Leung, he used a paper cutter as a knife. Maybe I should try that in the future; it might increase my attributes even more!"
As he was thinking, someone next to him nudged his body.
"Hey, Kun, are you crazy? This isn't your first time fighting. What are you thinking about?" the person asked.
Zhang Chen quickly smiled and said, "Nothing, just calculating how many people I need to cut today."
"Ha!" The person laughed loudly. "Kun, don't be silly. You're not the type to cut people. Just wait in the back. The hall master won't leave you behind, especially someone as smart as you."
Zhang Chen was taken aback, realizing that in this world, Liang Kun's fighting ability might not be that strong.
Indeed, in the movies, there weren't many scenes of him engaging in real combat, but there were plenty of descriptions of his cunning and ruthlessness.
After laughing, the person started chatting with the others, boasting about his sexual exploits from the previous night.
As they talked, they mentioned Yan Feng's woman, and the group's hormones surged. They couldn't wait to find the woman and vent their frustrations.
Zhang Chen sat to the side, shaking his head. The mafia was the mafia, and he, a good person, had nothing in common with them.
He tilted his head and began to think about how he could gradually improve his strength to deal with the players who would appear in over a decade.
Unexpectedly, as he thought, a cold smile appeared on his face.
The smile was so cold that it made the people in the minivan shiver, and they couldn't help but think, "No wonder the hall master favors him. Even his smile is different!"
The minivan quickly arrived at the location. The situation was already tense, with two groups of gangsters approaching each other, brandishing steel pipes and watermelon knives, standing tall and staring at each other, neither willing to back down.
In no time, the two groups were almost touching, and the atmosphere was so heavy that even a spark could cause a massive explosion. The few police officers maintaining order instinctively retreated, not daring to stay.
Zhang Chen walked into the crowd, tightly gripping the watermelon knife. Looking at the young men with bare torsos glaring at each other, he suddenly found it a bit amusing and couldn't help but laugh.
Pfft!
The small laugh was unexpectedly jarring in the silent environment.
Almost instantly, the attention of both groups focused on Zhang Chen. Then, for some reason, all the members of the Hong Kong Triad started laughing loudly, making the members of the Xin'an Triad turn red with anger. The tense atmosphere suddenly exploded.
"Cut him!"
No one knew who started it, but the knives quickly fell, blood splattered, and the screams of the injured were drowned out by the sounds of fighting. The clash of bodies and the clanging of metal spread amidst the smell of sweat and blood, and the chaotic situation quickly unfolded. People were packed together, and the knives clashed, making it hard to tell friend from foe. The battle quickly became intense.
Although Zhang Chen was at the back, it wasn't long before someone charged at him, the watermelon knife swiftly aimed at his head.
With a watermelon knife in hand, Zhang Chen should have resisted or counterattacked.
However, the past month of being a minor character had made his body react instinctively. The watermelon knife came close to his nose, just a little bit away from cutting his skin.
At that moment, Zhang Chen suddenly fell to the ground, lying flat and rolling over, smearing the blood on the ground on his face, making him look like someone who had been brutally killed.
The Xin'an gangster was stunned, staring at his watermelon knife, wondering if he had somehow developed a special skill.
This hesitation gave Zhang Chen a chance to react.
"This isn't right. This isn't a movie; this is real!" Zhang Chen thought quickly. "But I don't need to mix with these minor gangsters. Yan Feng is clearly not here, and my target is only him."
Making a quick decision, Zhang Chen moved, and the watermelon knife in his hand drew a curve, flashing a light. The Xin'an gangster's crotch turned red!
Who would have expected Zhang Chen to suddenly make such a move?
The gangster almost instantly dropped his knife, clutching his crotch and howling in pain.
But Zhang Chen wasn't done with him yet. He grabbed the gangster by the neck and dragged him out of the battle. "Tell me where Yan Feng is!"
"I don't know!" The gangster said, even though tears were streaming down his face, still maintaining his loyalty.
Zhang Chen pulled the gangster's head and quickly ran the watermelon knife over it, scraping off a patch of hair. He looked at the gangster menacingly. "Do you really know?"
The gangster was dizzy for a moment but was soon awakened by a cold sweat. Looking at Zhang Chen's face, he trembled.
Maintaining his last bit of loyalty, he shook his head. "I really don't know!"
"Maybe you do." Zhang Chen slowly moved the watermelon knife down, waving it. "If you're quick, you might still be saved. If you're slow, you'll have to go to Thailand for a trip!"
The demonic smile on Zhang Chen's face made the gangster tense up, and his voice, tinged with tears, rang out. "I really don't know! But I can take you to Miss Fang. Just let me go!"
Miss Fang was the young actress the men in the minivan had been talking about, and as Yan Feng's mistress, she might know his location.
A glint of determination appeared in Zhang Chen's eyes. He tore a strip from his sweatshirt and threw it to the gangster. "Plug your wound and let's go find her!"
He left the minivan, which was blocked by a group of gangsters, and walked to the only mobile vehicle, the police car. He knocked on the window.
"What's the matter?" The two young police officers opened the door, frowning.
Zhang Chen grinned. "Do you recognize me?"
The two police officers looked at him and sneered. "Who are you? Why should we recognize you?"
At this moment, Liang Kun was just a minor gangster, and with his face covered in blood, even the hall master who favored him might not recognize him, let alone these two newly appointed police officers.
Zhang Chen wasn't angry; instead, he smiled even more.
"You don't recognize me?" His face suddenly turned dark, and he pulled the two police officers out of the car, kicking them in the head. "Thanks for not recognizing me!"
He kicked the police officers unconscious and quickly started the car, driving away.
Following the gangster's directions, Zhang Chen drove the police car to a hotel. By the time he arrived, the car was almost a wreck.
"This is run by the British; you won't be able to see Miss Fang," the gangster said coldly, his eyes full of disdain.
"Maybe not." Zhang Chen shrugged and dragged the gangster out of the car. "But with your help, I can!"
He pushed the gangster to the front. "Tell me the room number!"
"0315. What will you do even if you know?"
"Like this!" Zhang Chen pressed the watermelon knife to the gangster's neck. "Take off your clothes, quickly, or you'll lose your life!"
The gangster hesitated for a moment but, under the circumstances, quickly stripped off his clothes. He wanted to keep his underwear, but Zhang Chen had already cut it, making it look even worse, so he took it off.
Now, a naked man—wounded and bleeding—stood at the hotel entrance.
Soon, someone from the hotel came to drive him away but was knocked out by Zhang Chen with a blow to the head.
Five minutes later, a man in a hotel security uniform, with a flashing light in his hand, walked into the hotel.
The receptionist, noticing something was wrong, tried to warn him but was intimidated by Zhang Chen's demonic eyes and lost his nerve.
At the room door, Zhang Chen rang the bell. "Hello, SF Express."
Click!
A young woman in a bathrobe opened the door slightly. "What did you say?"
Click!
Zhang Chen pulled the door open and quickly entered the room. "Hello, are you Miss Fang? I have something I need to discuss with you. I hope you will cooperate."
The woman looked at Zhang Chen silently, her eyes briefly glancing at the watermelon knife on her neck...
