At the L City Talent Building, a thin, bespectacled man sat at a desk, with a tall, imposing man standing before him.

The man had a square face, sharp eyebrows, and bright eyes, looking dignified and commanding.

“What’s your name?” The bespectacled man asked, clearly displeased by the imposing presence of the tall man.

“Wang Yu!”

“What’s your educational background?”

Wang Yu replied somewhat awkwardly, “I don’t have any formal education…”

Hearing this, the bespectacled man chuckled, “Well, that’s a problem. Our company is one of the top 500 in the country, and we require at least a master’s degree for employment…”

“…” Wang Yu sighed and turned away, heading towards another company.

“Hey, wait a moment!” The bespectacled man suddenly called out, “Even though you don’t have any formal education, you must have some skills… Our factory is also hiring skilled workers.”

“Kung Fu!”

“Kung Fu?” Upon hearing this, the bespectacled man’s face darkened.

What era are we living in? Who still believes in ‘kung fu’? Why don’t you say you can fly with a sword? Maybe I can recommend you to a courier company.

“Ha, how amusing! Did you hear that? He says he knows kung fu!” The bespectacled man sneered, pointing at Wang Yu and saying this to the people around him.

Everyone laughed. Kung fu? In this day and age, who still practices that?

Wang Yu felt angry. Knowing kung fu isn’t shameful, so why are they laughing so loudly?

“Ha, lunatic!” The bespectacled man laughed loudly.

Wang Yu glared at the bespectacled man, “Speak with some respect!”

The bespectacled man continued to mock loudly, “Respect? Look where you are! Get lost, or I’ll call the police!” He then said to the people nearby, “I haven’t even started the day, and I’ve already run into a lunatic. What bad luck!”

“… Wu yi de xian!” Wang Yu glared at the bespectacled man, remembering the family motto he had been taught since childhood. He loosened his clenched fists and silently left the Talent Building.

Leaving the Talent Building, Wang Yu felt extremely dejected. He walked with heavy steps into the most luxurious high-end residential area in L City—Moon Bay.

“Honey, you’re back!”

Wang Yu opened the door, and a young, beautiful woman in an apron rushed over, giving him a kiss. “Where have you been? Go rest for a bit, dinner will be ready soon…”

“Oh!”

Wang Yu responded, pushed open the bedroom door, and lay down on the bed, his mind in turmoil.

How has the world fallen so low? Is knowing kung fu a crime? For two months, I haven’t even found a decent job. As a man, I’m being supported by my wife.

Just as Wang Yu was lost in thought, the bedroom door opened: “Honey, it’s time to eat. I made your favorite braised pork ribs today…”

“I know!”

Wang Yu found his slippers under the bed and walked out dejectedly.

Looking at the table full of delicious food, Wang Yu felt even more distressed. He held half a steamed bun in his hand but couldn’t bring himself to eat it.

“What’s wrong, honey? Are you in a bad mood, or is the food not to your liking?” the woman asked.

Wang Yu said, “Wife, starting tomorrow, let’s just have ordinary home-cooked meals. There’s no need to keep up the same standard as before!”

The woman shook her head, “That’s not possible. Even though I don’t know kung fu, I know that martial artists need proper nutrition. Although this place isn’t as good as home, I can’t let you go hungry, right?”

The woman was right. Martial artists need the best nutrition. Without it, they can’t even stand up, let alone practice. For example, as a prodigy in his family, Wang Yu had professional nutritionists and massage therapists when he was training. The expenses were vastly different from what they are now.

Wang Yu sighed, “Forget it. Just let me be a regular person. This is too much for you, and I can’t do anything for this family…”

Seeing his wife still wearing autumn clothes in the cold winter, Wang Yu felt a pang of pain.

The woman smiled, put down her chopsticks, and touched Wang Yu’s cheek, “Compared to what you’ve given up for me, this is nothing. I’ll take on a part-time job. I found a job as a waitress at a restaurant near the neighborhood. I can earn eighty yuan a day, and they even provide meals!”

“I…” Tears welled up in Wang Yu’s eyes, but he held them back.

After dinner, the woman cleared the table, and Wang Yu silently practiced his stances on the balcony. The “thud, thud” sounds echoed continuously.

After finishing everything, the woman came to the balcony and said, “Honey, if you’re feeling stifled, go out for a walk!”

“I’m not stifled. I’ve been a homebody since I was young!”

“By the way, our company recently launched a new game that’s very popular. Do you want to play? I can get you the equipment!”

Wang Yu turned his head, “A game? Equipment? That must cost a lot…”

The woman said, “Just a few thousand yuan…”

“No, I won’t play!” Wang Yu continued practicing his stances.

“Sigh!” The woman sighed, “I’m going to work. Remember to take in the quilts on the balcony by 4 PM. A tenant will be coming to see the house!”

“I know!”

After the woman left, Wang Yu put on his coat, slipped on his shoes, and headed to the talent market.

“I’m in this state, and you still want me to play games… Wife, are you going to treat me like a son?” Wang Yu smiled bitterly and muttered to himself.

The woman’s name was Mu Zixian. She was Wang Yu’s wife and worked as a customer service representative at Longteng Game Company, earning about 5,000 to 6,000 yuan a month. In today’s era, 5,000 to 6,000 yuan is enough for a family to live comfortably in the city.

But for someone with Wang Yu’s appetite, 5,000 to 6,000 yuan was barely enough.

Fortunately, they owned a house here. Otherwise, they would have to live on the streets. Due to their financial constraints, they were planning to rent out the other two bedrooms to make ends meet.

The talent market was bustling, living up to its name.

Everywhere, job seekers held small signs, listing their skills and specialties, hoping to be hired.

Wang Yu felt helpless. Because he had practiced martial arts since childhood, he lacked formal education. Due to his martial arts training, he even needed others to take care of his basic needs, and his only skill was eating a lot. He had no other abilities or specialties.

Wang Yu didn’t dare write “kung fu” as his specialty on the sign, fearing more ridicule. This kind of mockery was very hurtful, making Wang Yu feel that they were mocking kung fu, not him.

Wang Yu had always taken pride in kung fu and martial arts. He couldn’t bear to see his beloved art being disrespected.

After squatting by the roadside for an hour, no one even glanced at him.

Thirsty and frustrated, Wang Yu left the talent market and went to a stall to buy a bottle of water. Suddenly, he remembered that the last two yuan in his wallet had been used for the bus fare that morning…

Not knowing what to do with his wallet, the stall owner saw his predicament and pointed to a nearby water pipe, “There’s tap water over there!”

Wang Yu sighed and was about to leave when a man rushed over, bumping into him and knocking his wallet to the ground, revealing several red bills.

Tears streamed down Wang Yu’s face. These hundreds of yuan must have been secretly put in his wallet by Mu Zixian, who feared he would be too proud to accept her help. Such a good wife, and he couldn’t even give her the happiness she deserved, instead becoming a burden. As a man, he felt utterly failed!

“Someone’s stealing a wallet! Help stop him!”

At that moment, a scream pulled Wang Yu out of his thoughts!
