EP 1 - I Lost My Job (3)

As soon as the oath of office was completed, something fell from the sky.

Someone was hit by a piece of concrete, bleeding and collapsing.

I'm not sure what it was. Just, a lump of muscle. A lump of muscle with sharp horns.

It spread out and crushed the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.

I've always been quick to judge,

and I was the first to limp out of the Capitol with my left foot.

Someone ran faster than me. Someone stood there in a daze. Someone was being chewed up by something.

Fortunately, I was running, but the biggest problem was the seating arrangement in the Capitol.

The more senior people, those who have been in office longer, sit at the back.

I am a first-term representative, so I am at the front. Therefore, I am right in front of the monster.

Fortunately, I am in the corner of the Democratic Party. The first-term representatives of the Republican Party are already a mess.

I can't run to the back. My left foot is a prosthetic, so I can't run well. If the prosthetic breaks while running, I can't even walk. Then I will die.

I have to walk to escape. Without bumping into anyone or falling.

Everyone is going to the opposite side of the monster. I first called Yeo Doyeon, who was waiting outside. I told her not to come to save me.

Then I got up and headed in the opposite direction of the people. The monster was catching and crushing people running around.

The monster had already climbed the stairs, smashing desks and crushing people. I saw a presidential candidate with a 24% approval rating die.

Ring, ring. Ring, ring. I slowly moved forward while listening to the phone ringing.

There is an emergency exit at the front edge of the Capitol.

Yeo Doyeon answered the phone.

- Hey! Damn! What just fell from the sky?

"Don't come into the Capitol. A terrorist is killing people, and I'm escaping through the emergency exit."

If I say it's a monster, you won't believe me.

- What?

"Uh-huh. Stay calm. Stay calm. Don't wait at the main entrance of the Capitol, drive to the back entrance. Let's not hang up."

- Ah, got it. The back entrance? Back, back entrance?

"Don't cause a traffic accident, come to the back entrance. I'll go out through the emergency exit."

While the monster was jumping around and crushing people, I walked calmly while talking on the phone, which probably made me look like a madman.

Fortunately, the 3-meter-tall monster was too busy catching people to come this way.

I walked to the emergency exit door and tried to close it,

- Click!

A wrinkled hand slipped through the gap.

"Ah... Is it you? I'm glad."

A pale Representative Yang Pansuk, breathing heavily, opened the emergency exit door and came in. He closed the door and even locked it.

Yang Pansuk is a four-term representative. He was at the back and probably the first to leave.

But now he is with me at the front emergency exit of the Capitol.

That means,

"Is there a monster at the main entrance of the Capitol?"

"Yes. Let's go."

He grabbed my hand in fear. It was an uncharacteristic action, but I firmly held his wrinkled hand. He had never been unfair to me.

Neither of us tried to run first. I was a cripple, and he was a frail 60-year-old.

We supported each other and slowly went down the emergency exit stairs. Representative Yang Pansuk, breathing heavily, spoke to me.

"Well, well. You're quite calm, aren't you?"

"Yeah, I didn't know I could be this calm."

"I, I saw a lot of these guys in Vietnam. You're reliable."

He was a Vietnam War veteran.

Anyway, we supported each other tightly and went down the stairs. We didn't forget to lock the emergency exit door every time we went down a floor.

It was an unconscious action, but looking back, it might have been to prevent the monster from following us through the emergency exit. If a lot of people came, we might get trampled. I calmly told Yang Pansuk.

"My sister is at the back entrance."

"Vehicle?"

"I got a K5."

"Domestic. That's what a representative should do."

We talked like madmen while going down the stairs one by one.

"Our speed is a bit slow because of the cripple and the old man."

"Can you carry me?"

"You could let go."

"You've lost your manners since becoming a representative."

Was he trying to ease the tension? Our crazy conversation didn't stop.

"We've arrived."

"Be careful opening the door. We don't know what's outside."

I carefully opened the door.

The Capitol has a grass field. It's where I occasionally walked with Yang Ilho, Lee Hojeong, and Kang Seokho.

The field is red.

There is not one monster.

There is a blue hole in the sky. Monsters are wriggling and falling to the ground.

All the suit-wearing people are screaming and falling, and indescribable creatures are killing people at an unbelievable speed.

Heads are bitten off and fly into the air, spouting red blood. Arms and legs are bent like insect legs and scattered in all directions.

Representative Yang Pansuk vomited. It splashed a little on my suit and shoes, but that's not important now.

I put down Representative Yang and picked up my phone. I changed my priority.

"Sis, are you okay?"

- Hey, damn. Damn.

She seems to be driving with her phone on the dashboard, using speaker mode.

All kinds of screams can be heard from the phone. Screams, breaking sounds, dying sounds, and brake sounds.

- Where are you?

"Coming out now. Going to the back entrance."

- Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
