The two youngsters before us were no doubt connected to the witch.
They had to be. One of them was a magician and they were aiming for the violent princess now of all times.
Tina had told me powerful demons were on their side, and from the hair colour and pupils of the man and woman, it was clear they weren’t normal humans, at least.
The sound of metal against metal reverberated across the battlefield. Our fierce exchange saw no end.
The man was strong.
I thrust my dagger at his wrist, but he dodged it by leaping backwards. Damn, another miss.
I regripped my dagger and studied him.
My poison dagger had wounded him in multiple places, but poison either didn’t work on him, or it took a long time to kick in.
I just wanted to let Miss Dyna and the gluttonous princess escape.
Fighting while protecting them was difficult, or rather, we were bound to die as things were!
The woman was still playing with the two officers, but it’d be over if she fought seriously.
I had my hands full fighting the redhead. Someone, please help!
“Stop playing, Belra.”
The woman playing with the two officers looked offended. She glanced at me and snorted.
“I decide what I do. You’re playing too, aren’t you? Unless you’re telling me you’re struggling against a single human?”
“Our individual battles aren’t the problem. We just have to carry out Leonora’s orders.”
“No shit we can carry out her orders. These guys are nothing.”
“Then finish it already. Our objective is the princess.”
The woman began doing something, still making a dissatisfied face though.
The two officers paled as they intuitively knew the power of that something. They poised their swords at the woman, but their legs stayed planted to the ground.
Nah, hold up! Time out! Aargh, it’s over!
Once the officers lose, I’ll have to fight both of them by myself! Nope, not happening!
I had to stop her. Pretending to focus on the redhead, I put my right hand behind me and took out a small ball.
The ball was a glass marble with two liquids in it, and I threw it at the woman’s feet.
It landed right on target and broke, raising a small noise. White smoke rose from the ball.
“Wha-!?”
Surprised by the smoke, the woman stopped whatever she had been preparing.
I took the moment to throw a dagger at her chest. The officers saw that and rushed into the smoke with their swords.
But I had gone too far.
The next moment, I was just barely dodging the strikes of a long sword. My balance crumbled as I rolled on the ground.
No, I’m getting separated from the others!
If the redhead was the type to finish me off there, that would be great, but as I thought, he headed to Princess Amalia and raised his sword.
Miss Dyna held the princess tightly to protect her. I raised my arm to throw a dagger.
Please, make it in time!
That was the only thought in my head.
One second seemed to last forever. Everything moved slowly, my eyes simply following the dagger I threw.
The long sword swung downwards.
My dagger hit the blade, slightly changing the trajectory of the sword.
But it wasn’t enough.
The redhead’s sword continued swinging down, heading straight through Miss Dyna’s back.
I ran, reaching out my hand, but I knew I wouldn’t make it in time.
But then, another dagger hit the sword.
A throwing dagger, that normal officers don’t use.
He pointed another dagger at the redhead. His voice sounded incredibly carefree for the situation.
“Lu, who are these guys?”
“Who…?”
Can’t you tell from looking at them, idiot!? But Gyuteh, you saved us!
I kicked the redhead away to separate them from the two and took a deep breath.
“They’re enemies.”
“Can I kill them?”
“Yeah.”
Gyuteh’s expression changed with a nod. He gave off the same aura as me, or maybe a deeper aura that I had lost from all my time in peace.
The redhead scowled.
“You two must be…”
I know what you’re going to say and I don’t care!
Several soldiers that noticed the voice, other than Gyuteh, ran towards us.
I looked towards the white-haired woman.
Oh… the two officers didn’t make it. They were lying face down on the ground. Dead or alive, I had no idea.
The woman smirked and stroked her lip.
We won some and we lost some, but at least we had more manpower now.
Keeping the redhead in vision, I turned to the princess and Miss Dyna.
Princes Amalia looked at me, round-eyed, unable to comprehend what was happening.
“Princess, please run to the headquarters with Miss Dyna.”
“But what about you…”
“Don’t worry about me. Princess Iris is a lot scarier than these guys.”
A hint of a smile appeared on the princess’ face.
I nodded to Miss Dyna and she left with the princess.
I faced the redhead with my swords poised, blocking them from his view.
“Lu, I’m taking this one,” Gyuteh said, his voice still carefree.
“Gotcha.”
Gyuteh faced the white-haired woman. He seemed to be enjoying the situation. You haven’t changed.
He’s killed magicians before, so I’m sure he’ll be fine… I hope.
Arrows were raining down on the redhead from the archers behind me. You better not shoot me!
Anyway, now that the princess is gone, I can finally give a proper fight, so I’ll let it go if we win!
The redhead spoke up.
“So you’re willing to die for your low pay?”
“My pay’s not low!”
I bet you couldn’t tell, but I’m actually a general!
They paid me to fight and I was fine with that. I was ready.
The redhead poised his sword once again when he saw I wasn’t going to back down.
So uh… poison really doesn’t work on him? I’ll aim for his vitals then.
We stared at each other for but a moment, until I sprinted towards him.
I parried his sword and stepped in close.
Predicting that, he skillfully twisted his body to dodge me.
That was when I thrust his arm.
Closing in on him was a trap. My aim was always his right arm.
I couldn’t go straight for his vitals, so I disabled his arm first.
My dagger had pierced the gap between the bones, just as planned.
Any normal human wouldn’t even be able to hold a sword. I jumped back, staying cautious for a counterattack.
The handle of the sword began slipping from his hand, and I couldn’t see what Gyuteh was doing, but it was making the woman scream.
Have we won?
But then, the Witch appeared.
“You’re still not done?”
She was beautiful—her voice too.
I knew it was inappropriate, but that was all I thought when the woman appeared between us.
She had golden hair and green eyes. A colourful witch—the total opposite of Tina.
She looked at her two subordinates and frowned. The redhead bowed.
“My sincere apologies, Master Leonora…”
“Hurry up, you deadweight.”
Her harsh words pulled me back to reality.
The redhead raised his right arm and shook it. The scar disappeared rapidly as if time itself was rewinding.
I stared at his arm, which now looked completely new, like nothing ever happened to it, with my mouth agape. My jaw almost dropped from the shock.
Oh… so you can just do that!? That’s not fair! I want to protest!
The Witch walked up to the white-haired woman lying on the ground.
Gyuteh tried to block her but was sent flying, like a toy being thrown by a child. His body crashed into a large tree in the distance.
“Get up, Belra.”
“My lord…”
The white-haired woman stood after getting healed. Her expression changed from one of gratitude to a scrunched-up look of anger towards Gyuteh.
Oh shit! Didn’t he faint? Please don’t be dead!
The white-haired woman pulled up the bottom of her dirtied clothes and walked towards Gyuteh, who was still unable to move.
Oi, no, wait! Gyuteh, you have to wake up!
I wanted to run to him, but the redhead stood before me. Make a single wrong move, and my head would get lopped off!
Multiple soldiers rushed over to Gyuteh, but they weren’t strong enough to win against the woman. We were in a complete and utter deadlock.
Aargh! Everyone, just stop!
“You all look like you’re having fun.”
Her voice resounded throughout the woods, sticking out like a sore thumb.
The white-haired woman paused, puzzled, but then began quivering.
Her eyes were wide in disbelief and her legs collapsed beneath her.
The Witch pulled her arm out of the woman’s chest, then tossed a bright red heart onto the ground. She continued walking, trampling over the crimson organ with her small legs.
The golden-haired witch’s eyes opened wider.
“Why are you…”
“Long time no see, Leonora.”
The girl had black hair and eyes, with only her magic robe and skin white. She made a friendly smile.
“I hope you’ll let me join the party.”
That was all she needed to say to declare war.
With a dagger in her left hand, Tina showed a fearless smile and faced the golden-haired witch.
