Two years flew by after the battle against the witch.

Most events were never made public, so only a handful of people knew our opponent was a witch.

Princess Iris won the civil war and I was awarded for bravely fighting and defeating a hired magician.

Also, the violent princess was soon to be the violent queen. Terrifying, I know.

I was on the verge of death when my chest was pierced, so I never saw the outcome of the fight.

Tina didn’t tell me what happened either.

“I won. And I doubt she’ll ever appear before you again,” was all she said.

Nothing felt resolved for me, but I had had enough of such fierce battles. Tina said it was fine, so I just had to believe her.

These two years were as peaceful as always, and I was bullied to the limit.

I’m getting old guys, so take it easy with me, please. One of your sick pranks are gonna kill me someday.

Life was good, despite all the bullying, and one day, I was having a conversation with Tina.

“So, I’ve finally decided to propose to Miss Dyna!”

“Propose what? A duel?”

“I’ll skin you alive.”

Vyro told me I wasn’t making any progress, but in my mind, I had gotten much closer with Miss Dyna!

So isn’t it about time!? Isn’t it about time to propose!? I’m sure now’s fine for my first proposal.

“First… proposal? How many times are you planning to propose?”

“I, I was thinking at least fifty times for now…”

“Oh, I get it, you’re waiting until she goes insane and accepts.”

“Hell no! I just want to propose, so give me some advice you idiot!”

I struck the table and pleaded, basking in the witch’s gaze of pity.

How long is this gonna go on? Please say something already.

Tina sipped her tea and sighed.

“Fine. Since your life depends on it.”

“Please take care of me.”

I slammed my forehead down onto the table.

Heh, I’ve refined my pleading skills in these two years! I’m proud to admit I could beat anyone in a pleading contest!

Tina said, “I’ll brew some more tea first,” and left her seat.

She seemed off, so I called out to her.

“Hey, don’t worry, you can leave your room the way it is, even after I get married!”

“I’m not worried since you won’t get married.”

Aren’t you supposed to be my adviser!?

I wanted to cry, but I held in my tears and took Tina’s crash course until late at night.

The next day, Miss Dyna arrived just on time, bringing nothing but her blinding beauty.

You’re so radiant! The world won’t need the sun if you’re here!

If I had to pick a problem with this situation, it would be that I was wearing a mask… I would’ve cried if Miss Dyna hadn’t asked me to wear it.

So, two extremely suspicious people (because of me), ate under the attention of many and then strolled around the city.

At last, when the sun began to sink, calling upon the evening sky, I made sure no one was around us as I pulled out a note from my chest pocket.

“Mi-mi-mi-miss Dyna!”

“Yes?”

Oh no, her smile’s so dazzling my mouth can’t form words.

But I’ve got the note Tina wrote for me! I just gotta do my best and read it!

You don’t need to tell me I’m a failure of a man for relying on stuff like this.

I finally spoke, voice quivering.

“If, if you’re… fine with me… please let me live… with you, forever… as if I was your dog.”

Tina! The hell is this!? Did you need the dog part!?

Right underneath, it wrote, ‘it’s your first one, so just try to make her laugh,’ but I didn’t care!

I’m gonna cry my eyes out and scold you when I get home!

Yet, Miss Dyna grinned and said, “Of course, if you’re happy with me.”

Huh? What? Am I dreaming? Am I dead?

Before I could break my finger to check, Miss Dyna smiled at me in silence and held my hand.

I thought I was gonna die.

My suspicious conduct went to never before seen levels after that, but when I saw her off, there was one thing I had to tell her.

“I have a housemate that hates humans, but she’s a good person…” I said.

Tina has a… personality, you could say, but she’s a good person at heart, and Miss Dyna’s a goddess in human form so they should get along well.

And if she doesn’t want to, I’ll buy the house next door and make her live there!

It’d be complicated though…

But Miss Dyna replied, “I look forward to meeting her.”

Yes! Now I just have to introduce her!

I skipped down the path back home… but by then, she was gone.

Her room was empty.

Everything was gone, clean and tidy, just like that, as if no one had lived there in the first place.

That alone told me she had been preparing to leave for a while now.

I looked around my house in a daze. A house that now seemed lifeless—dead.

Not a single trace of her existence remained.

She lived with me here, for three whole years, yet there was nothing left to prove it.

I slumped into the couch and cried out loud, for the first time in so, so long.

Where did she come from?

Why did she become a witch?

Did she really hate humans?

Now I would never get the answers.

What I knew was that she was always in a sour mood.

And that she napped a lot but woke up moody.

And that she was surprisingly good at housework and was hardworking and kind inside…

And that at heart, she was just a human who didn’t want to be alone.

Idiot. I never got to thank you once.

Let me show you my appreciation, jerk.

That night, when I cried myself to sleep, I saw a strange dream.

I dreamt of her, laughing in an unfamiliar garden.

She was all grown-up, walking alongside an unfamiliar man, their kids scampering around them.

I was glad she found happiness in the end.

After breaking free from a life in the shadows, I bought my dream house and lived with a cat for a mere three years.

Now, I live with my wife and kid in that house, and I’m so happy it all feels like a lie, but I still think about that cat from time to time.

Those days were full of surprises with something always there to endanger my life, but it wasn’t bad at all.

Wherever that whimsical black cat is, I’m sure she’s doing well.

The end.
