Chapter 1
20 min read5,029 words
"Three days from now, the fully virtual game 'Heavenly Destiny,' jointly developed by countries Z, M, Y, F, D, and R, will officially begin operations. 'Heavenly Destiny' integrates the latest technological advancements from various countries, replacing traditional keyboards and mice with virtual devices that allow brain waves to control the game, providing players with a truly immersive and thrilling experience. The head of 'Heavenly Destiny' claims that this has transcended the concept of a game. Players entering the virtual world are not just playing a game but experiencing it, living through the life within. ... 'Heavenly Destiny' has started selling virtual devices today, and the long queues at the sales points can hardly be described as just 'hot.' ... If you also like it, be sure to buy a virtual device and experience this new life in the game."
Watching the advertisement on the screen of the building, Chu Rui couldn't help but smile slyly.
A slight vibration came from his pocket. Pulling it out, he saw a special symbol displayed.
"Have you made up your mind?"
He answered, and after a moment of silence, a voice finally came through, a soft yet captivating voice that could drive any man mad.
"I've made my decision!"
Chu Rui smiled lightly, not losing himself in the voice, and replied calmly.
"Is that so! ... Can you tell me what you plan to do?"
After a moment's hesitation, the woman on the other end of the line asked.
"What to do?" Chu Rui looked up at the huge screen still advertising 'Heavenly Destiny' and smiled softly. "Maybe I'll enter 'Heavenly Destiny.' After being so tired for so long, it's time to relax."
"I see, I understand! ... Goodbye, Blood Hand Ghost Shadow!"
Hearing the dial tone, Chu Rui raised his head and exhaled softly. His years as a killer were finally over.
Yes, Chu Rui was a killer, a super killer known as Blood Hand Ghost Shadow! He was the supreme ruler of the assassin world, with a 100% success rate, having assassinated even the Secretary of State of M country and a cabinet minister of R country. However, all of this was now in the past. The current Chu Rui was no longer Blood Hand Ghost Shadow, the king of killers, but just an ordinary person who yearned for a normal life. He became a killer for certain reasons, and now that he could finally be free, he naturally wanted to live a normal life. After completing his last mission, he immediately returned to his homeland.
He closed his phone and threw it into the trash. Now that he was no longer Blood Hand Ghost Shadow, there was no need to keep the phone. The woman who called was the intermediary responsible for contacting him. With the promise fulfilled, he was free to do as he pleased.
Dragging his suitcase, Chu Rui went to a real estate sales center. Money talks, and he quickly secured a place to live.
A simple two-bedroom apartment in a residential area, after furnishing it, he left himself a little money for living expenses and donated all his savings. As an orphan, he had been taken in by an orphanage, which saved his life, and he still felt grateful. After being a killer for so many years and killing so many high-ranking officials and tycoons, the rewards he received were substantial. The amount he donated was at least a hundred million dollars, but he didn't care. Knowing what it was like to be an orphan, he understood the despair. Now, with food and a place to live, that was enough. The money, rather than sitting in a bank and being used by capitalists, was better donated for a meaningful cause.
After handling the necessary procedures, Chu Rui looked at his computer, where his account showed only a five-digit balance, and smiled faintly. He took out a golden card, glanced at it, and placed it at the bottom of a drawer. This was a Swiss bank overdraft card, with a maximum overdraft limit of one billion dollars. However, if he used this card, many people would likely know his location.
"Right, there's still the game device and tuition. Damn, is this money enough?"
Suddenly remembering two things, Chu Rui slapped his forehead, his face twitching. He had been a killer since the age of fifteen and was now eighteen, and he had never truly experienced school life. This time, returning to his homeland, he didn't want to leave any regrets in his life, so he wanted to experience university life. However, it was currently summer break, and the next semester wouldn't start for over a month, so he had some time. The immediate priority was to get the game device.
With that in mind, Chu Rui put on his clothes and immediately left.
He went to the bank and withdrew 10,000 RMB, then rushed to the game device sales point.
Seeing the long queue, Chu Rui couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat. Was it really that crazy? Damn, it was causing traffic jams. Was there really that many people in SH?
Cursing under his breath, Chu Rui had no choice but to join the queue. Looking at the people inside the sales point, he couldn't help but envy them. Damn, it was so hot, and at least the people inside had air conditioning, unlike him, standing in the scorching sun. Wiping the sweat from his forehead, even with Chu Rui's endurance, he was still feeling the heat, let alone those with weaker constitutions, who were drinking ice water to no avail, and some had even fainted from heatstroke.
After waiting in line for nearly three hours, he finally entered the sales hall. Seeing the twenty sales counters, Chu Rui was speechless. Damn, with so many counters, how many people were there?
Taking a deep breath to calm his restless heart, he waited another twenty minutes before it was his turn.
"Hello, sir, which device would you like?"
The salesgirl smiled politely and asked.
"Um, I'm not sure. What types are there?"
Chu Rui was taken aback, scratching his head awkwardly.
"The game devices are divided into four types: the standard model for 2,000 RMB with 90% virtual reality; the mid-range model for 5,000 RMB with 93% virtual reality; the high-end model for 10,000 RMB with 95% virtual reality; and the supreme model for 100,000 RMB with 98% virtual reality. Which one would you like?"
"Give me the high-end model!"
Chu Rui smiled helplessly and handed over the 10,000 RMB he had just withdrawn from the bank.
"Sure! Would you like to pick it up now or have our staff deliver it to your home?"
"Let me pick it up now!"
He filled out a form, took a receipt, and left the sales point with a box.
He went back to the bank to withdraw some more money, bought some daily necessities, and then returned home.
After putting the daily necessities in the refrigerator and bathroom, Chu Rui returned to his room, turned on the air conditioning, and eagerly opened the box.
Inside was an exquisitely crafted helmet, resembling a motorcycle helmet, with a silver-white body that was very dazzling. He picked up the manual, read it, connected the wires, and put on the helmet, turning it on.
His vision went black, and Chu Rui felt as if he had entered a dark space, surrounded by a starry night sky, as if he were in the vast universe. After floating for a while, a bright light suddenly appeared, forcing him to close his eyes.
A floral scent wafted in, making Chu Rui's nose twitch. Opening his eyes, he was surprised to find himself in a small valley that seemed like a paradise.
"Hello, welcome to the 'Heavenly Destiny' world. The game is not yet open, but you can create your character!"
A sweet female voice greeted him, making him pause. Although the synthesized voice was sweet and pleasant, it lacked the human touch, which was a bit disappointing.
"What character classes are available?"
"'Heavenly Destiny' has seven main classes: Knight, Warrior, Mage, Thief, Archer, Summoner, and Priest."
As the synthesized female voice spoke, a seven-star circle appeared before Chu Rui, with carvings of seven characters. A valiant knight riding a horse, protecting everything; a fierce warrior wielding a large sword, charging into battle; a proud mage surrounded by elemental spirits; a stealthy thief in black, holding a dagger in the darkness; a nimble archer in the forest, drawing his bow; a summoner with fierce beasts and exotic birds; and a priest in white, holding a staff, radiating holy light.
He went through each one, reading the descriptions. Knights were good at defense, serving as tanks; Warriors were balanced, excelling in frontline combat; Mages were ranged attackers, becoming powerful in the late game but relatively weak; Thieves were assassins, elusive and deadly, excelling in stealth and ambush; Archers were also ranged attackers, but they were physical attackers, highly agile, and could set traps; Summoners summoned monsters to fight for them, with skills to enhance themselves; and Priests were healers, able to buff teammates and heal.
Chu Rui stroked his chin, thinking. As he flipped through the pages, when the Thief's carving lit up, he looked up and saw the black figure come to life, with blood-red eyes staring at him and a bloodthirsty dagger in hand.
It seemed that even if he wasn't a killer anymore, his body and mind couldn't escape it.
With a helpless smile, Chu Rui decisively chose the Thief!
"Congratulations on successfully choosing your class! Next, we will scan your physical strength to determine your growth attributes!
