As the night quietly drew to a close, Zhou Yi stood on the rooftop balcony of the hotel, his gaze fixed on the Eiffel Tower. He believed that someone else was doing the same thing in that place. Sometimes, when the stakes were too high, you couldn't help but be concerned about your opponent.
As the first faint light appeared on the horizon, Zhou Yi put on the new armor Medusa had just delivered. The matte black armor almost blended seamlessly with the thick night, and even the sound of the evening breeze rustling the cloak disappeared into the darkness.
This new armor, specifically designed to counter Magneto's magnetic control, had undergone the most thorough demagnetization. However, this only made the people around Zhou Yi feel a little more at ease.
Magneto's power didn't rely on external settings to function; he wielded one of the most fundamental and primal forces of the universe. Just basic manipulation could have infinite possibilities. If there was any limitation to his power, it was only his thoughts and energy that constrained him.
Zhou Yi was very clear about this because he himself wielded such power. Gravity was also a similar force, but compared to Magneto, his development of this cosmic power was extremely limited. Not only was his time restricted, but he also had too many abilities that distracted him.
Sometimes, he himself felt that having so many abilities was a double-edged sword, and it was hard to say whether it was good or bad.
As the morning light appeared, Logan brought Rogue to his side, followed by Jean, Ororo, and Storm. Except for Rogue, they all wore black leather uniforms, which looked very high-quality, with the X symbol on their chests standing out prominently. The thick shoulder design added a sense of depth. Notably, the uniforms of the two women perfectly showcased their figures, especially Ororo's cloak, which accentuated her cold and elegant demeanor. Zhou Yi thought the designer deserved a big thumbs up for this.
However, Ororo's face was very cold and hard, and she didn't even have the mood to greet Zhou Yi, treating him like a stranger.
Zhou Yi assumed she was still angry, so he didn't say anything. Sometimes, the best way to deal with such matters was to let time heal them. Excessive actions would only make things worse.
"We are ready, we can go now," Jean said, clearly making the choice Zhou Yi least wanted to see.
Zhou Yi sighed. He wasn't Professor Charles, and he couldn't control others' thoughts. Moreover, from another perspective, they weren't his puppets but beings with their own will. The choice was always in their hands, not his.
"Can you promise me one last thing?" Zhou Yi asked with a hint of pleading. "Don't get involved in my fight with Magneto, okay?"
"I can't promise anything!" Jean silently shook her head, indicating her helplessness. Ororo, on the other hand, was more straightforward. She summoned a strong wind that lifted her body, and she flew towards the Eiffel Tower. The wind made her cloak flutter loudly, and she quickly disappeared from sight.
Zhou Yi sighed silently and walked to Rogue.
"Child, please believe me. I will use all my strength to be the victor in this battle."
At this moment, Logan stepped in front of her, staring at Zhou Yi with a determined and powerful gaze.
"Promise me you'll bring him back. Otherwise, I'll kill you, even if it costs me my life."
"I promise!"
With Zhou Yi's promise, Logan stepped aside. Rogue closed her eyes and hugged Zhou Yi's waist. Zhou Yi used his cloak to protect her, and with a slight leap, they shot up into the sky like a missile, leaving a trail of air waves behind.
He paused briefly in the air and then suddenly accelerated, tearing through the clouds and heading towards the top of the Eiffel Tower.
Watching him disappear, Jean and Ororo nodded to Logan.
"Let's go!" Jean said, using her telekinesis to lift Logan and float towards the Eiffel Tower.
As they approached the massive tower, an invisible force disrupted Jean's control of her telekinesis. She tried to push forward, but a blinding bolt of lightning struck down from the top of the tower.
Jean and Ororo quickly raised a telekinetic shield. The lightning hit the shield, instantly bursting into countless sparks and flashes. Although the lightning was neutralized, Jean and Ororo's faces turned pale, and the attack had drained a significant amount of their energy. They could no longer maintain their flight.
Seeing the countless currents suddenly appear at the top of the tower, like entangled pythons, Jean and Ororo bit their lips and decided to land. As soon as they landed, they saw Ororo facing off against a wild-looking man. Concerned, Jean hurried over and stood beside Ororo.
"Where is Yi? Hasn't he arrived yet?"
Ororo glanced at the lightning-entangled top of the tower and whispered.
"He's already up there, but it looks like Magneto is well-prepared. He doesn't want us to interfere."
"Damn, what is this thing?" Logan also approached, still marveling at Magneto's work. Using the 300-meter-tall Eiffel Tower to gather countless lightning bolts, the arcs of lightning stretched nearly a hundred meters in the night sky, and the sound of thunder echoed throughout Paris. The scene was enough to shock any normal person.
In fact, the French government had already noticed the abnormality. Many police cars and aircraft were heading in this direction, but once they approached the Eiffel Tower, they were met with brilliant lightning strikes. These lightning bolts carried millions of volts, and the police and officials could only stop at a certain distance.
Their role now was to block tourists and citizens from approaching the now extremely dangerous Eiffel Tower. They still didn't know what was happening, and their speculations were of no help.
Ororo, who specialized in physics, carefully observed the situation. As a mutant who could control storms, natural lightning, and blizzards, she could faintly sense the electromagnetic field of the artificial currents. This allowed her to glimpse Magneto's setup.
Only by seeing the truth did Ororo realize the scale of Magneto's plan. Her face turned grim.
"This is a Tesla coil, but a super Tesla coil controlled by Magneto's magnetic field. He has set up his magnetic field throughout Paris, and the city is powering his magnetic storm coil. With his control, the Eiffel Tower has become a massive magnetic storm tower, and he can control countless artificial lightning bolts to attack his enemies. We need to hurry. Yi is in danger."
A Tesla coil is a resonant transformer circuit that can theoretically produce millions of volts of high-frequency voltage. The principle of a traditional Tesla coil is to use a transformer to boost ordinary voltage, then charge the resonant capacitor in the primary LC circuit. When the charge reaches the discharge threshold, the spark gap discharges, and the primary LC circuit resonates, providing sufficient excitation power to the secondary coil. If the frequency of the secondary LC circuit matches, the inductance and distributed capacitance of the secondary coil will resonate in series, and the terminal voltage will increase to its maximum, producing artificial lightning.
In the human world, Tesla coils are relatively common, and small, harmless magnetic storm coils can be made with simple tools. However, in Magneto's hands, it became a weapon on par with strategic weapons.
His ability to control magnetic fields allowed him to set up a complete electrical circuit without any assistance. As long as there was a qualified discharge terminal, building a complete magnetic storm coil was not a problem. When he used the tallest iron tower in the world as the discharge terminal and the power of an entire large city as the energy source, a supreme battlefield weapon was born.
This grand gesture was enough to prove that Magneto's reputation was not exaggerated. It also instilled fear in the hearts of all those who knew the truth.
Seeing Sabretooth Victor blocking the way and the obvious worry of the two women, Wolverine Logan bit down on his cigar and stepped forward with determination and resolve.
"I'll take care of this guy. You two go up and help that bastard. Tell him not to be intimidated by the old man and not to forget his promise."
"Leave it to you, Logan!" Ororo nodded and ran towards the Eiffel Tower's entrance. As she passed Victor, he stepped aside, allowing her to proceed to the upper levels.
His attention was now focused on Wolverine Logan. With Logan present, he wouldn't care about anyone else, even Magneto's orders.
Seeing Ororo safely leave, Jean glanced back at Logan and resolutely followed Ororo.
Logan watched Jean and Ororo's backs with a complex look of longing, reluctance, and determination. He took a deep breath and stared at the mutant with whom he had a deep connection. His claws slowly extended from his hands.
"Today is the day to settle things. This time, I won't hold back."
Victor narrowed his eyes and slowly approached Logan. As he got close, he took something out and threw it at Logan.
Logan caught it and found that it was the dog tag he had lost during the attack on him and Rogue.
"Logan, that's a familiar name. Although I still can't remember our connection, I always have a feeling that you owe me a lot. And that debt can only be repaid with your life!"
With that, Victor extended his sharp claws, which scraped against the steel of the tower, producing brilliant sparks. He bared his sharp fangs and growled like a wild beast. In the next moment, he pounced at Logan.
Logan also growled, his muscles bulging, making him look particularly fierce. He met Sabretooth's attack head-on, his adamantium claws ready to strike back.
Perhaps he would never know, in his lost memories, who he was doing this for. He only knew that this was the only way to settle things between them.
