It was half a month later when Liu Yang was encountered again.
That day, Yuan Chenfei was off, and he was driving home. On his way back, he saw Liu Yang enter a small alley.
Completely out of a sense of responsibility for his patient, Yuan Chenfei stopped the car and entered the alley.
Then he saw Liu Yang standing in a corner, hiding behind some old boxes, crouching and looking at something.
He could faintly hear Liu Yang muttering something.
As he got closer, he could hear him counting: "Ten, nine, eight..."
Yuan Chenfei couldn't help but say, "Hey, what are you doing?"
Liu Yang was startled by the voice. He turned around and, upon seeing Yuan Chenfei, suddenly grabbed him and pulled him behind the boxes, then put his index finger to his lips: "Shh!"
Yuan Chenfei was confused, but Liu Yang was already looking outside.
He said, "It's coming."
Coming?
What was coming?
Just as Yuan Chenfei was puzzled, a motorcycle suddenly rushed out from the opposite direction and crashed into a wall. The rider was thrown off and rolled a great distance.
Then Liu Yang clapped and laughed loudly, "Did you see that? Did you see that? He fell! He really fell!"
Yuan Chenfei looked at Liu Yang in surprise, not understanding what he was up to.
But Liu Yang's gloating clearly angered the fallen rider, who got up and shouted at Liu Yang, "What's so funny? Are you looking for death?!"
Liu Yang shouted back, "Yes, I am looking for death! We will all die! All of us!"
With that, he turned and ran out, ignoring the rider.
Seeing that the rider was still okay, Yuan Chenfei pointed to his head and said, "Sorry, he's got a problem."
Then he went to chase Liu Yang.
Out of the alley, he saw Liu Yang standing in the middle of the street, looking up at the sky.
A bunch of cars were honking at him, but he ignored them. A few irritable drivers had already opened their doors, ready to get out and beat him up.
Yuan Chenfei quickly ran over and pulled Liu Yang aside, "What are you doing? Are you crazy?"
Liu Yang just stared at the sky, "A great change is coming... we will all die... all of us..."
" Liu Yang, snap out of it! That's just a dream!" Yuan Chenfei said to him.
"No!" Liu Yang shouted.
He looked at Yuan Chenfei and suddenly grabbed his collar, "Doctor Yuan, you don't understand. I'm not crazy, I saw... I saw the future!"
"Saw what?"
Liu Yang paused for a moment and answered, "I saw... the future!"
Yuan Chenfei was stunned by Liu Yang's answer and took a while to react, "Don't joke around."
"I'm not joking. Didn't you see what just happened?" Liu Yang shouted excitedly.
"Yes, I saw it. A motorcycle crashed into a wall. Believe me, it won't destroy the Earth."
"No, I mean I knew it would happen before it did. Because I saw the future!" Liu Yang shouted, his mind spiraling out of control again.
Yuan Chenfei was taken aback by his words, "You mean... you knew in advance that there would be a car accident there?"
"Exactly!" Liu Yang nodded seriously.
"Alright, tell me what will happen next," Yuan Chenfei asked. He didn't directly deny him but asked a question based on what Liu Yang said.
"Changes... terrible changes, just like I told you. It's not a nightmare, it's a prophecy, something I truly saw," Liu Yang said, unable to stop trembling.
Yuan Chenfei shook his head, "That's too far ahead. Tell me what major events will happen on Earth today."
"I can't," Liu Yang roared, "I can only know what I have personally experienced."
"Then here, tell me what will happen in the next second, anything. Even who will spit on the ground."
"No, no, I can't remember that much. Everything I see is in my dreams. Some I can remember, some I can't," Liu Yang said dejectedly. "These things are chaotic, they swirl in my mind like a nightmare... but they are not dreams!"
He grabbed Yuan Chenfei's collar, his voice becoming shrill, and he was almost hysterical, shouting in fear, "This is the truth, the future that is about to happen. It will happen in a few days. Everything will change, the whole world will be different! Different! Those who can't adapt will die!"
"Hey, hey, calm down!" Yuan Chenfei tried to hold him down.
But Liu Yang was incredibly strong, acting like a madman, waving his arms and shouting, "We will all die, all of us! Struggling is meaningless, effort is meaningless!"
Then he looked around and muttered, "All of this will be destroyed, living is just suffering, a disaster... I've already been through it once, do I have to go through it again? No, no, I don't want to, I don't want to!"
Just then, a young man passing by heard him and glared at him with disgust, muttering, "Crazy, what are you raving about? If you think living is suffering, why don't you just die?"
Hearing this, Yuan Chenfei's face changed.
Sure enough, Liu Yang's eyes lit up, "Yes, we will die sooner or later... we will all die, so why live?"
He suddenly rushed out.
Yuan Chenfei couldn't catch him and shouted, "Liu Yang, no!"
"Screech!"
In the screeching of the brakes, a heavy truck ran over Liu Yang's body...
Yuan Chenfei closed his eyes, unable to bear to look.
---
Liu Yang's memorial service was held three days later.
When Yuan Chenfei arrived, he almost got beaten up by some of Liu Yang's relatives.
They thought Yuan Chenfei was responsible for Liu Yang's death.
It was Liu Yang's mother, a kind old lady, who stopped everyone.
After offering incense to Liu Yang, Yuan Chenfei found a moment to speak to the old lady, "I am very sorry I couldn't save his life..."
"I know, it's not your fault," the old lady sobbed softly. "It's fate. He always said he was destined to die, whether early or late. When he said that, I always worried this would happen, so I had him see a psychologist, but I never thought it would happen so quickly."
"So it was you who had him come see me."
"Yes, he always said he dreamed of a great change in the world, everything becoming different. At first, it was a bit superstitious, but later it got worse. He said he could see the future, see gods and demons descending, see the laws of physics changing, see all sorts of chaotic things."
"Yes, he told me the same," Yuan Chenfei sighed. "I could have helped him, but he only came once. The treatment hadn't even started when it ended."
"I know. After that, he locked himself in his room, writing and drawing all day, spouting nonsense and making wild predictions. One moment he said there would be a robbery on Linshui Street, the next he said there would be a car accident in Jiming Alley..." the old lady said helplessly.
Yuan Chenfei was taken aback, "Jiming Alley? He told you there would be a car accident in Jiming Alley?"
The old lady nodded.
Jiming Alley was where Yuan Chenfei had met Liu Yang.
At that moment, hearing this, Yuan Chenfei's heart began to tremble uncontrollably, "Did he tell you what kind of accident? For example, a motorcycle or a car?"
The old lady shook her head, "I don't remember. Who would pay attention to his nonsense? If he hadn't died near Jiming Alley, I wouldn't have remembered this. A car accident did happen near Jiming Alley, but it was my son who died."
The old lady thought Liu Yang's prediction was a description of his own accident, but since the accident didn't happen in Jiming Alley, she didn't believe Liu Yang had truly seen it.
To her, this similar prediction was just a coincidence.
But in Yuan Chenfei's heart, it caused a tremendous wave.
He stood there in a daze for a while before saying, "Old lady, I have a request."
"What?"
"Can I see the things Liu Yang wrote and drew at home?"
"There it is, a notebook," the old lady pointed to a pile of miscellaneous items. According to local customs, these items of the deceased would be burned together.
Yuan Chenfei hurried over, picked up the notebook the old lady pointed to, and carefully flipped through it.
"Hey, what are you doing? Don't touch the deceased's things," a relative said.
"Oh, sorry, I'm his doctor. His notes will help me understand his condition," Yuan Chenfei quickly explained.
"So what? He's already dead, what's the point of understanding now?"
Yuan Chenfei replied, "But his condition is rare. If I can understand more, maybe I can prevent such tragedies in the future. So, can I have this notebook? Of course, I can pay for it."
Hearing about payment, everyone was a bit moved.
But the old lady stopped them, "If you want it, take it. Why mention money? If it can save more people, it's a good deed."
"Thank you, old lady."
Yuan Chenfei began to flip through the pages.
