Chapter 1

In the majestic hall shrouded in mist and clouds, at the end of a long, green jade staircase, a man in a golden robe sat straight on a large, white jade chair.

The magnificent hall, now in a state of chaos, was strewn with broken weapons like axes, halberds, and hooks, and scattered with various precious treasures. Several of the massive coiled dragon pillars were shattered, leaving only half of them standing.

The grand and solemn hall was deathly silent, with no other human figures present except for the man in the golden robe. He seemed oblivious to the chaos around him, staring blankly at an object on the ground nearby.

On a huge, nearly half-destroyed plaque, the two large golden characters “Lingxiao” exuded an endless aura of authority.

With a loud “Boom”!

The grand hall trembled slightly, and dense silver spiritual patterns appeared in various corners, rapidly spreading out layer by layer, covering the entire hall like a vast web.

Outside, the thunderous sounds continued incessantly, while inside the hall, the silver spiritual patterns flashed wildly. The ground cracked, and the ceiling groaned with a “creak.”

“Finally, it has come to this moment!”

The man in the golden robe finally lifted his head, muttering to himself as he looked up at the top of the hall. His face was covered with a faint layer of white light, making it impossible to see his features clearly.

The purple-golden ceiling of the hall “cracked” and shattered, and amidst the flying debris, a mountain-sized, sky-piercing demonic hand fiercely grabbed down at the man in the golden robe.

...

A golden mountain over ten thousand feet tall was enveloped in boundless green demonic flames. From the temple at the top of the mountain, continuous chants of Buddhist scriptures echoed, and countless golden Sanskrit characters flew out, desperately resisting the encroaching demonic flames.

However, as time passed, fewer and fewer Sanskrit characters flew out from the mountain, and the chants gradually grew weaker. Soon, they were completely overwhelmed by the surging green flames, and all sounds ceased.

...

In the dim and gloomy Netherworld, at the gate of the black, fearsome giant city, countless bizarre and grotesque ghosts howled and surged out. Some of the more powerful ghosts either rode strange winds to fly or burrowed underground to escape, like a flood of water, disappearing into the gray wilderness outside.

...

In the human world, at noon!

The sky was as black as ink, with not a single ray of sunlight. Both cities and wilderness were as dark as midnight, with only a few flickering lights barely visible.

In some cities and towns, countless people could be seen looking up at the black sky, some with wide-eyed shock, others with extreme fear.

Suddenly, low rumbles began to emanate from the black sky, growing louder and sharper, like the low sobs of countless people, causing immense sorrow and tears.

Almost simultaneously, the sky above was filled with dense red lights, and then red meteors, some as large as mountains and others as big as houses, pierced through the black curtain, rumbling as they fell to the earth, spreading across the four continents.

During the Tang Dynasty, a demonic creature devoured the sky, and the heavens wept, sending down celestial fire to the world, causing great suffering and death among the people. — *The Record of the Demonic Tribulation*
