Chapter 4

Mu Chen's black eyes sparkled as he gazed at the stone chamber before him. As the lord of the Mu Domain, Mu Feng was one of the few powerful figures in the Northern Spirit Realm, and the stockpile he had accumulated over the years was naturally not weak.

And for his old man, Mu Chen didn't show the slightest bit of politeness. He quickly walked into the stone chamber and casually picked up a jade slip, glancing at it. On the jade slip, luminous characters appeared.

Intermediate-grade Mortal Spirit Art, Fire Cloud Technique.

Mu Chen blinked. Generally speaking, Spirit Arts were divided into cultivation Spirit Arts, attack Spirit Arts, defense Spirit Arts, and so on. These various types of Spirit Arts were roughly divided into three grades: Divine, Spirit, and Mortal. Each grade was further divided into upper, middle, and lower ranks. The Fire Cloud Technique before him was an intermediate-grade Mortal cultivation Spirit Art.

Mu Chen played with the jade slip for a moment and then put it down, clearly not very interested. He then strolled deeper in, occasionally picking up a jade slip, but quickly putting it back.

Mu Feng slowly followed behind Mu Chen, letting him choose from the various Spirit Arts.

Hundred Sword Spirit Art, upper-grade Mortal.

Mountain Breaking Canon, upper-grade Mortal.

...

A dazzling array of Spirit Arts filled Mu Chen's eyes. Although most were Mortal-grade Spirit Arts, Mu Chen understood that if these were taken out, they would be enough to cause a frenzy among many people. Mu Feng's collection was not ordinary in the Northern Spirit Realm.

After wandering for quite some time, Mu Chen finally reached the depths of the stone chamber but still hadn't found a Spirit Art that caught his eye. He then raised his head and looked at the final stone shelf, where three open jade boxes were placed.

"You're quite ambitious, kid. These three Spirit Arts were obtained by your old man at great cost," Mu Feng said with a smile when he saw Mu Chen's gaze fall on the three jade boxes.

Mu Chen walked over with some curiosity, then took out a jade slip from one of the jade boxes. The jade slip was crystal clear and had a slight warmth to it, clearly not an ordinary item.

"Inferno Dragon Technique..." Mu Chen scanned the jade slip, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes. "It's actually a lower-grade Spirit Spirit Art?"

He was well aware of the value of a Spirit-grade Spirit Art. If it were auctioned, it would likely fetch no less than a million spirit coins.

"Indeed, I cultivate the Inferno Dragon Technique. I obtained it when I received the spirit soul of the Inferno Dragon Carving," Mu Feng nodded and said.

Mu Chen played with the jade slip for a moment, then took out the other two. One was called "Heaven-Shaking Technique," and the other was called "Spirit Gathering Mirror," both of which were lower-grade Spirit Spirit Arts.

Mu Chen was somewhat reluctant to part with these three jade slips and hesitated for a moment about which to choose.

"Have you made your choice? These three Spirit Arts are all on par. You can choose one to cultivate. If you find a more suitable one in the future, you can switch to it," Mu Feng said with a faint smile.

Mu Chen hesitated, his hand hovering over the three jade slips, finally stopping on the "Spirit Gathering Mirror." Although this Spirit Art was not good for attacks, it had significant benefits for laying a solid foundation.

Mu Chen's hand hovered over the "Spirit Gathering Mirror." Just as he was about to make his choice, he suddenly felt a slight stirring in his heart. His gaze involuntarily shifted, and then, in the shadow of the three jade boxes, he saw a dark, dusty black jade slip.

"What is this?"

Mu Chen was taken aback, reaching out and picking up the dark black jade slip. His gaze swept over it, and he saw blurry characters on the rough surface of the jade slip.

"Great Floating Pagoda Technique?"

Mu Chen looked at the blurry four characters, a hint of confusion flashing in his eyes. There was no indication of the Spirit Art's grade?

Mu Chen looked at Mu Feng with confusion, but the latter was staring at the dark black jade slip in his hand with a complex expression, filled with tender nostalgia.

"Dad?" Mu Chen called out, waving the jade slip. "What kind of Spirit Art is this? Why isn't the grade written on it?"

"It's just an ordinary Spirit Art. Choose another one," Mu Feng said, slowly withdrawing his gaze.

Mu Chen frowned, his hand caressing the black jade slip. After a moment of silence, he smiled and said, "I'll take it."

Mu Feng's body stiffened. He stared at Mu Chen, who met his gaze with a stubborn look on his young face.

"Do you really want to choose it?" Mu Feng asked after a moment of silence.

Mu Chen nodded and said, "I don't know why, but I feel that if I don't choose it, I'll regret it. Dad, what is the origin of this Spirit Art?"

Mu Feng looked at the jade slip with a complex expression, taking a long breath and letting out a bitter laugh. He muttered to himself, "Jing, you really are your son."

"This jade slip was left by your mother. To be precise, it was left for you. However, she also said that if you didn't choose it, it should remain sealed," Mu Feng said softly.

"Mom?"

Mu Chen's body trembled involuntarily, the word feeling both unfamiliar and stirring in his heart. He had never met his mother, but deep in his heart, there was a vague yet deeply etched gentle figure.

Since he was old enough to understand, he had never pressed Mu Feng for information about his mother, and Mu Feng had never mentioned her. The two of them seemed to avoid the person who was crucial to both of them.

"Is Mom still alive? Where is she?"

Mu Chen caressed the jade slip, hesitating for a moment before finally asking the question he had wanted to know for years. As a child, he had carved many wooden figures, all identical but without clear features, as the original model was the vague yet deeply etched gentle figure in his heart.

Each wooden figure was a寄托 and a 思念.

"Your mother's situation is complicated. Telling you now won't help, but if you really want to know, cultivate it. When you reach a certain level, you will naturally know," Mu Feng said after a long silence, his hands slowly clenching. He stared at Mu Chen with a determined gaze.

"Is Mom's departure related to me?" Mu Chen asked suddenly.

"You have always been the one she cares about the most. For you, she can give up everything."

Mu Feng didn't answer directly but gently rubbed Mu Chen's head, saying with a self-deprecating tone, "It's your father's fault that I couldn't keep you together."

"I tried, but... I failed. I'm sorry."

Mu Chen nodded silently, a bright smile on his young face. "Dad, do you want to see Mom again?"

"I really, really want to. I want our family to be together," Mu Feng looked up, his voice filled with endless longing.

Mu Chen's hand tightly gripped the rough, dark black jade slip, which emitted a warm temperature in his palm. After a long moment, he looked up and smiled at Mu Feng. "I've chosen it. Dad, don't worry. I'll help you complete what you couldn't. If you believe in me, one day I will bring our family together, and no one will be able to stop me!"

Mu Feng stared at the young, determined face, a wave of emotion surging in his chest, making his eyes slightly red. He finally nodded heavily.

Jing, our son will not be ordinary.
