Sun Sheng walked out of the main hall, where many young members of the Bai family had gathered. They all knew that today, Sun Sheng might leave the family, being expelled from the clan. After all, he was once a genius of the Bai family, and it was a pity to see him fall to such a state. This attracted many people who enjoyed the spectacle.
As Sun Sheng walked out, limping and with a cold expression, he kept his head down, looking at his feet. Many people could see the implications and began to discuss it.
"Judging by his expression, it seems the methods of the family elders have worked. He will be expelled today."
"Sigh, the former genius, the former glory of our Bai family, how did he end up like this? I wonder why he offended the successor of the Ziyang Sect back then. Now he's been crippled, his cultivation ruined, and expelled from the family. He's utterly worthless."
"He must have been arrogant and self-important back then, thinking he was invincible, challenging the successor of another sect, and ended up being crippled."
"That's true. Although he was a genius in Mufeng City, he was nothing to the major sects, like a common cabbage. It was foolish of him to act so recklessly."
"Not quite. I heard from others that Sun Sheng offended the successor of the Ziyang Sect to protect two other members of the family."
"Shh, be quiet. The family elders have strictly forbidden mentioning that incident. It's still a taboo topic. Don't say too much."
"Pity, the former genius is now worthless."
"Hmph, it can't be helped. The family doesn't support useless people. I think this is a good idea." Someone disagreed.
"Exactly. I also think it's better for him to leave. Although he was once the pride of the Bai family, he is now a disgrace. Many people in the city will mock us because of him. His departure is like erasing a stain from our family."
Sun Sheng remained silent, sighing inwardly. He naturally heard all of this, as the people were discussing it openly, loudly, and without any fear of offending him. How could he not hear it?
"Shut up!" A stout figure emerged from the crowd. It was a large, round man with almost no neck, his head and body almost fused together, his body trembling with fat as he walked. His name was Bai Yi, known as Wubao by those familiar with him. He was the fifth child in his family, the most cherished, hence the nickname "Wubao." He was one of Sun Sheng's few friends in the family.
Another girl also stepped out from the crowd. She was only fourteen, not particularly beautiful but very graceful and charming. Her name was Bai Zimo, also a good friend of Sun Sheng.
"Dasheng, how is it?" Bai Yi asked as he approached.
Bai Zimo looked at Sun Sheng with a face full of concern.
Sun Sheng smiled bitterly and shook his head. "I'm going to the back courtyard. I should at least take Tiezhu with me." With that, Sun Sheng turned and walked toward the back courtyard.
Bai Yi and Bai Zimo exchanged glances and lowered their heads in sadness. They knew the plan of the family elders had succeeded. From today on, Sun Sheng would no longer be able to return to the family. He was truly being expelled.
"How could this happen? Dasheng did so much, why would the elders..." Bai Zimo's tears flowed, her delicate face covered in tears.
"Don't say more. Be careful not to be overheard by someone who might report it." Bai Yi was quite cautious, glancing back at the crowd and speaking in a low voice.
Sun Sheng arrived at the back courtyard, where there was a cowshed he had built himself. Inside the cowshed was a large water buffalo with a rare indigo color and unusual spiral patterns on its legs. It was lying down, half-asleep, with smooth, shiny horns that looked like metal.
Seeing Sun Sheng, the indigo buffalo slowly stood up, its eyes becoming bright and alert.
"Tiezhu, we're leaving today. Come with me." Sun Sheng approached and stroked the indigo buffalo's skin.
This buffalo, which Sun Sheng had brought back from the wild when he was ten, was found soaking in a river outside the city, unattended. Sun Sheng had brought it back and settled it in the family's back courtyard, feeding it morning and night.
Sun Sheng led the buffalo out of the cowshed, followed by Bai Yi and Bai Zimo, who sighed deeply. Bai Zimo was crying uncontrollably, her face a mess of tears and snot, completely disregarding her appearance.
"Why is this happening? The family elders are treating Dasheng like this. He was injured protecting two members of the family, and now they are kicking him out." Bai Zimo sobbed, one of the few who knew the truth.
"Hmph!" Bai Yi snorted. "For the family's reputation, those old men have no integrity. Bai Zhanfei and Bai Yingying, those ungrateful ones, didn't even come to see him off. Dasheng saved them, but now the family elders, to maintain the reputation of the main line, have forbidden anyone from discussing this. It's so unfair."
Bai Yi's complaints echoed Sun Sheng's own feelings of injustice. But what could he do? He couldn't do anything. He couldn't cultivate, and he was an orphan with no one to protect him. How could he argue with the family?
Moreover, this was the Bai family, and he didn't even share their surname. Even though he had grown up here, he was still an outsider.
"Dasheng, take care of yourself. We'll see you off. Even though you're leaving, you'll always live in my heart. I won't forget you." Bai Yi said emotionally.
"Go to hell, where are you sending me?" Sun Sheng glared at the fat man, irritated.
Bai Yi scratched his head, looking embarrassed. "Sorry, I didn't go to school much. Anyway... have a good journey, and I won't forget you."
"You go to hell!" Sun Sheng glared, finding the fat man's words unhelpful.
"Wubao, can't you speak properly? You should be the one to go to hell." Bai Zimo also glared at Bai Yi, finding him utterly unhelpful.
The three of them laughed, lightening the heavy atmosphere. After all, they were young.
"Sun Sheng, this is the severance package from the family. Take it." A young man, about sixteen or seventeen, approached, holding a box and handing it to Sun Sheng, his eyes cold and his nose flaring.
Sun Sheng took the box and opened it. Inside were ten third-grade spirit herbs, Blood Ginseng, which could enhance cultivation and improve blood production, making one's qi and blood exceptionally vigorous.
"Hmph, I wonder what the elders were thinking. He's already leaving, and they still waste ten spirit herbs on him. Even if you have ten spirit herbs, can you turn your life around? Ridiculous. Such precious herbs are wasted on a useless person." Bai Jingyang sneered, a member of the Bai family's main line.
"Bai Jingyang, what did you say!" Bai Yi shouted angrily, his forehead veins bulging.
"Don't make trouble for yourself. You're no match for me, and what I said is true." Bai Jingyang sneered, glancing at Sun Sheng with a mocking look. "I hope you can use these herbs."
With that, Bai Jingyang walked away, leaving a confident back view.
"Damn, this guy is asking for a beating. He relies on his status as a main line member, but his strength isn't that great. If we really fought, I might not lose." The fat man said angrily.
"He can already burst qi, and you're still in the qi cultivation stage. You can't beat him." Sun Sheng smiled bitterly.
"I... I'll dominate him mentally! I'll despise him in terms of character!" The fat man's face turned red.
"Whatever..." Sun Sheng smiled helplessly, leading the buffalo out of the family compound, holding the box of spirit herbs.
At the front gate of the Bai family, many young people had gathered, including Bai Jingyang. However, they were not there to see Sun Sheng off. They were surrounding a young couple, showing them great respect.
The young couple, just by their aura, were clearly of noble birth. The man, Bai Zhanfei, was about fifteen or sixteen, tall and slender, already over 1.7 meters, with a handsome face, standing out among the young people.
The girl was the same age, but being a girl, she seemed a year or two older. Her name was Bai Yingying.
Sun Sheng, accompanied by Bai Yi and Bai Zimo, led the buffalo up and immediately saw Bai Zhanfei and Bai Yingying, frowning.
Bai Yi, being straightforward, immediately said, "Hey, Bai Zhanfei, Bai Yingying, you have some conscience, coming to see me off."
A group of young people accompanied Bai Zhanfei and Bai Yingying, all members of the Bai family, surrounding the young master and young mistress. However, most of them looked at Sun Sheng with disdain and mockery, some even with malicious smiles.
"Sun Sheng, did the family give you ten third-grade spirit herbs?" Bai Zhanfei asked first, his attitude cold and his eyes hostile.
Bai Yingying stood to the side, her eyes indifferent, glancing at Sun Sheng and then looking away.
"Yes." Sun Sheng nodded.
Bai Zhanfei smiled slightly. "Good, I thought you might keep them. These ten herbs are valuable. Honestly, they're useless to you since you can't cultivate. What do you need them for?"
"Bai Zhanfei, what do you mean?" Bai Yi's eyes widened.
Bai Zhanfei's lips curled, though he was smiling, his eyes clearly hostile. "I'm at a critical point in my cultivation and need some herbs to assist me. Sun Sheng, lend me these herbs. I'll send you some money as compensation when I have the time."
