Chapter 3

In this country, where various races coexist, I possess something beyond my memories of my previous life—namely, a "鉴定" (appraisal) skill. My "appraisal" skill allows me to see detailed information about people, monsters, weapons, herbs, and more in a list format. I was able to determine the country of origin of the person who joined the group with the elf women and the one who was taken to the guild master, all thanks to my "appraisal" skill. In fact, I could see their real names, their strengths, and their weaknesses.

However, I keep this convenient skill a secret from everyone. This is because the existence of the "appraisal" skill is not widely known in the world. There are no magical devices that can measure ability values.

In the past, when I told a trustworthy person about my physical strength, magic power, and the skills I possessed, they were extremely surprised, saying, "How can you know so much in detail?" I was then made to promise to keep this ability a secret from everyone. It seems that while there are people in the world who can vaguely sense the strength of others and monsters, it is generally believed that detailed knowledge is impossible.

According to the general knowledge of the world:

- There are values for physical strength, magic power, strength, intelligence, speed, and durability.

- "Physical strength" is the very life itself, and it decreases when one moves vigorously or receives an attack. If it reaches zero, one dies.

- "Magic power" is consumed when using magic.

- Special abilities called "skills" exist, but there is no way to confirm them.

From my perspective, with my "appraisal" skill, the explanations for physical strength and magic power are mostly accurate.

"Physical strength" is like HP in the games from my previous life on Earth. It decreases when fighting monsters and reaches zero when one dies.

"Magic power" is similar to MP. Using a weak spell causes a small decrease, while using a powerful spell causes a large decrease. Both can be recovered through rest, food, and potions, and their upper limits increase with growth and training.

These explanations for physical strength and magic power are generally known, but other ability values are not clearly mentioned, perhaps because they cannot be seen with the naked eye.

However, adventurers can intuitively sense these values.

For example, this female mage:

"Look, look! I recently bought a staff, and I think its power to burn is several times greater than before! Maybe my intelligence has increased!"

"That's great. Where did you buy it?"

The woman is showing off her new staff to an acquaintance. She has apparently felt an increase in her "intelligence" (the value that increases the power of magic). Indeed, my "appraisal" results show an increase. It seems she made a good purchase.

And over there, two men are having a conversation:

"Hey, I haven't seen you in a while. Are you still an adventurer?"

"You, too, can only boast about your strength. I'm surprised you can still be an adventurer."

"What did you say!"

One of them throws a punch, but it doesn't hit. The conversation escalates into a fight.

"If it doesn't hit, it's meaningless! I've honed my speed!"

One is boasting about his "strength," which refers to physical strength. The other is talking about his "speed," which refers to the ability to run, dodge, and attack quickly.

"Alright! I wanted to settle this with you. You scrawny guy!"

"I, too, wanted to fight you, you fat pig. Gufuuu!?"

"What? Gheee!"

Suddenly, the two collide with something and fall to the ground, as if licking the floor. One is dragged along the floor by an invisible wall, while the other rolls out of the room.

"Take your fight outside. Don't cause trouble here."

I created a barrier to push them straight to the exit. One is a strong but slow "strength" guy, and the other is a fast but weak "speed" guy. They would make a good team if they worked together.

"Intelligence," "strength," and "speed" are recognized in the world because they can be sensed. However, "spirit" is a value that is not even known to the public. The higher it is, the easier it is to manifest skills and magic, and the less likely one is to suffer from status ailments. It's a shame that it's not recognized.

I have the highest "spirit" value. I have more than five times the number of skills compared to the people around me.

"Next, please. I'm sorry for the wait."

Finally, it's my turn. Now, only our party is at the counter.

"Hey, the guy who was with the guild master outside, did he attack Charlotte?"

The leader of a famous A-rank party asked. Maybe the guild master was lecturing that guy.

"Ignorance is scary. From what I saw, he was probably F or E rank."

I appraised him earlier and found out he was E rank and from another country. I can't say that, so I just say, "Something like that."

"Charlotte works at the reception, but she's actually an A-rank adventurer."

The party leader smiled and showed his golden A-rank registration card and a request posted on the bulletin board.

When I appraise someone, I can see their occupation. When I appraised myself, it showed:

Occupation: Forest Kingdom Adventurer Guild, Ariz Branch Staff

Forest Kingdom Adventurer Guild, Ariz Branch A-rank Registered Member

"Ariz" is the name of the town where I live. I am currently a staff member of the adventurer guild, but before I came to this town, I was an adventurer, and I am still an A-rank adventurer. I have a golden registration card, which is the result of using my ability to easily learn skills and magic as an adventurer.

You might think it's strange for a guild staff member to be an adventurer, but there's no need to deregister just because I became a staff member, and it doesn't violate any regulations. Most people in the town know this. The guild master is also an active A-rank registered member, and many people in this country work as both active adventurers and guild staff.

In the first place, while A-rank adventurers are rare in other countries or rural branches, they are not so rare in this town. This is because the town is famous for the frequent appearance of monsters.
