"Listen, I plan to invest 40 million to build a greenhouse in the village."

Buzz—this one sentence caused a stir in the crowd.

"What? 40 million?"

"Good grief, 40 million for a greenhouse?"

"How big would that greenhouse be? It would probably take up all the land in the village."

Wang Yong ignored the murmurs and calmly said, "Based on this greenhouse, I will establish a restaurant."

Before the crowd could react, Wang Yong dropped another bomb.

"The village will hold 45% of the shares in this company through land equity."

This time, not only did the crowd below erupt, but even Wang Dahai and Dawei were taken aback. This was different from what they had discussed before! How could he suddenly give away 10% of the shares?

While people were still in shock, Wang Yong continued, "I plan to unify most of the village's land and invest it into the upcoming Half Mountain Ecological Restaurant. The main project is a 100-acre greenhouse ecological restaurant. I will hold 40% of the shares, and the nationally renowned chef, Mr. Zhang, will hold 10% of the shares. Dawei will invest one million and be responsible for the restaurant's management, holding 5% of the shares."

The villagers were numb, even the mischievous children sensed the unusual atmosphere and stood quietly by their parents, watching Wang Yong on the steps.

"Our village has fallen behind the outside world for various reasons over the years. To put it bluntly, we are poorer! Because we are poor, the young men in the village can't find suitable partners; because we are poor, we can't hold our heads high in front of relatives and friends; because we are poor, children who should be playing in kindergartens are left to run wild in the mountains; because we are poor, we are looked down upon when we go out to work; and because we are poor, people who have lived here for generations are all trying to leave, hoping never to return. Why? Why is this? Are we lazy?"

"No." This was the roar of ordinary farmers.

"Are we not hardworking enough, are we not willing to put in the effort?"

"No!" This roar shook the heavens.

"Then why? Tell me, why? Why are we looked down upon? Why?"

This time, no one answered. Everyone stared at Wang Yong with anger.

"I will tell you why. It's because we lack knowledge, we haven't seen the world, and ultimately, it's because we are poor!"

Everyone below clenched their fists and gritted their teeth, staring at Wang Yong without moving. Wang Dahai also looked at Wang Yong nervously, not understanding what he was doing.

"I am not content, so I came back, to be a farmer. By chance, I became the village chief, and I have been thinking about how to lead everyone to prosperity, to stand tall and hold our heads high. The success of the greenhouse vegetables and my friends' advice gave me the idea. So I decided to open an ecological restaurant to develop tourism and bring Dawei, who is a chef in the capital, back to lead everyone to a path of prosperity."

Cheers erupted throughout the venue. The villagers clapped their hands hard to express their enthusiasm, giving the capable, visionary, and practical new village chief a warm and prolonged applause.

All the villagers at home unanimously approved Wang Yong's proposal, and the construction of the Half Mountain Ecological Restaurant entered a fast track. Manager Li and Li Yongxin, along with a group of engineering technicians, set up camp in Half Mountain Village and began the紧张的施工建设。

Since the company was established, large-scale talent recruitment began. One month later, following the principle of prioritizing villagers, Wang Yong and Dawei started recruiting essential personnel for the company, including finance, human resources, and technical staff. Other ordinary workers were mostly chosen from the village. The basic salary for workers was 2,000 yuan, with five insurances and one fund, statutory holidays, weekends, and other benefits, making the company's positions highly sought after.

The influx of people seeking favors and connections made the villagers of Half Mountain Village stand tall and proud. Since it was agreed that each family in Half Mountain Village would have at least one person working in the company, the elderly in the village called their children working outside to come back home. They told them not to wander aimlessly outside, as they could earn money at home, avoiding the hardships of working elsewhere.

In recent days, childhood friends from all over the country rushed back. Upon returning, they saw the bustling construction of the large greenhouse, which was gradually taking shape. All doubts were dispelled, and they flocked to Wang Yong or Dawei to sign up. Most of them were already married with children, and they brought their wives back with them. As more and more people working outside heard from the first batch of returnees that Wang Yong had indeed set up a company in the village and that every household was a shareholder, they packed their bags and rushed home.

For a time, Half Mountain Village was bustling with activity. The elderly were overjoyed to see their children return, and the children clung to their parents, fearing they would disappear again. Every household celebrated as if it were the New Year, sitting together, cooking a few good dishes, chatting about the present, and dreaming of the future.

The establishment of the company and Wang Yong's name spread throughout the city. Many people learned about the super vegetables and the magical golden eggs and delicious fruits produced in Half Mountain Village.

For a time, Half Mountain Village was filled with visitors. Many city dwellers came to taste the legendary vegetables, golden eggs, and fruits. However, they were disappointed when the villagers told them that all these products were already reserved by hotels in the capital and were not for sale.

Many people from nearby villages also came to visit relatives, hoping to find a job through their connections in Half Mountain Village. Some even asked matchmakers to find a young man from Half Mountain Village for their daughters. Surprisingly, a few pairs hit it off and quickly became engaged. The women were then smoothly employed by the company. This made the eligible young men of Half Mountain Village highly sought after.

Wang Yong saw all the changes in Half Mountain Village and felt proud of the villagers' happiness and pride. However, his joy was short-lived when Er Ye (Second Uncle) came to see him.

"Wang Yong, some of your actions are not right!" Er Ye said with a serious tone, making Wang Yong's heart sink.

"Er Ye, what's wrong?"

"Look at how some people in the village are acting. They think they are so great, looking down on others. They've forgotten their roots!"

Wang Yong frowned.

"Prioritizing villagers for jobs is fine, but we can't let them add people at will. The other villages are our neighbors, and we see each other often. This will cause big problems in the long run. Your second uncle also thinks so. He asked me to remind you to maintain good relations with the surrounding villages."

Wang Yong understood. This was indeed a problem. The villagers' behavior would make the surrounding villages envious, leading to jealousy and eventually resentment, isolating Half Mountain Village. This was not what Wang Yong wanted. He needed to cool down the villagers' enthusiasm. Fortunately, the new HR manager, Dawei, had just arrived from the capital and could help.

Without delay, Wang Yong bid farewell to Er Ye and rushed to the temporary office in a prefabricated steel building. He found Dawei and the newly appointed HR manager, Li Jianping, and explained the situation. Dawei immediately became alert, but Li Jianping was dismissive.

"Such things are inevitable anywhere. Our country is a society of personal connections. As long as we control it, there won't be major issues. Don't worry, leave it to me!"

Li Jianping graduated from Harvard Business School with a degree in human resource management and a minor in law, earning a dual bachelor's degree. He continued his studies and obtained a master's degree in human resource management, along with a minor in business administration and psychology.

Before coming here, he was the HR director for the Asia region of a Fortune 500 company in the capital. He came here because he fell in love with the super vegetables from Half Mountain Village after tasting a dish made from them. When he learned about the job opening, his contract had just expired, and he hadn't renewed it. He resigned and contacted Dawei, coming to Half Mountain Village.

Wang Yong was indeed lucky to attract such a talented person to such a small place.

After a discussion with Wang Yong and Dawei, Li Jianping was immediately appointed as the company's vice president and HR manager. The villagers unanimously approved the appointment. Li Jianping, a master's graduate from a prestigious foreign university and a former regional director of a large company, was not there for the mere one million yuan annual salary. His previous salary was in US dollars, which amounted to about one million yuan per month.

Li Jianping proved his worth. On the third day, he published the improved company personnel system. All new hires, except those already employed, would be managed by the company's HR department. Some older villagers were confused, thinking it was a power grab, but the young people who had returned from working outside found it normal and even advised their elders. They explained that large companies in the city operated this way, and it was nothing new. They had never had the chance to work for such companies, while small companies and factories often had no HR department, with the boss making all decisions.

The company's HR issues were quickly resolved by Li Jianping. After hiring a few assistants, he established and improved various company policies, including recruitment, training, leave, and benefits. The company's operations began to run smoothly and efficiently. Er Ye praised Li Jianping for his capabilities and insisted on inviting him to dinner. After enjoying a meal cooked by Mr. Zhang at Er Ye's house, Li Jianping frequently visited to improve his diet.

The cold of late autumn brought many challenges to the construction, but the use of advanced technology and machinery ensured the project progressed on schedule and to high standards.

With Dawei and Li Jianping handling the company's affairs, Wang Yong had nothing to worry about. He enjoyed a leisurely life, either taking his dog and the black and white cats to harass small animals in the mountains, secretly visiting Yuan Yuan in the city, or staying at home to experiment with dishes taught by Mr. Zhang. This leisurely life ended when the apples and hawthorns in the orchard ripened.
