The Day of Wrath (After)
The silence in the room was both oppressive and profound.
Takashiro stood amid this unendurable atmosphere and stared at the girl’s small shoulders.
Abruptly, Alfra shot up from the floor.
“I’m going!”
“Milady…?”
Seeing Alfra, who was depressed one moment, suddenly shout energetically perplexed Takashiro.
Alfra picked up the rapier and the sheath from the floor.
“Is there an armor I could wear?”
“I have it prepared.”
Strong determinations could be seen from Alfra’s eyes, which were barely dry from her tears.
Albeit feeling something ominous, Takashiro still took out the necessary items from the luggage.
A linen tunic, leather armor, leather trousers, a mantle and arctic boots with fur on the inside. Also, sword belt and two daggers.
Alfra quickly finished her preparations.
Takashiro watched her carefully, still faintly feeling negative emotions like anger and hatred from her.
“Milady, Felmar has already finished her preparations and is waiting for you above. Please heed to her instructions during the journey.”
“Okay, I get it.”
Having finished changing her clothes, Alfra lastly took the dagger in her hands and checked it.
She pondered as she thoroughly inspected her equipment.
――How about…Takashiro?
She slightly pulled out the steel dagger from its sheath and thought while checking if there was a chip in a blade. Her gaze went towards Takashiro beyond the blade in her hand.
―― He’s not good. He’s stronger than me.
But…I can catch him off-guard now.
She hurriedly erased the thought that rose in her mind.
―― No, I can’t do something like that to Takashiro.
Takashiro has always been kind to me. He might be a demon, but I love him.
“…Please bring this with you too.”
Despite frowning at the killing intent he sensed for only a second, Takashiro handed over a fist-sized drawstring pouch to Alfra.
“There are some high-quality gems inside. You will most likely get a good price for them if you convert them to money.
“Mhm, thanks.”
“Money is necessary in order to live, but it also brings danger with itself. Please be careful to absolutely not show those gems to anybody except for the time when you’re going to redeem them.
“Got it.”
“Do not trust people easily.”
“I’ll be fine.”
Still, Takashiro looked into Alfra’s eyes with indescribable anxiety.
Her mahogany-colored eyes were devoid of any shadow or guilty conscience, looking straight back at him.
Later, Takashiro would come to greatly regret this moment.
Even with his keen insight, he was unable to discern the pure madness that had started to sprout inside Alfra.
After climbing the stairs, Alfra made her way to the gates of the old castle.
Felmar, who had finished her traveling preparations, was already waiting there with a bored look on her face.
Normally, she was dressed in a maid uniform, but now she was clad in leather armor and a mantle. There was even a sword hanging from her waist.
“Felmar…?
Alfra was dumbfounded by how different she seemed from her usual look.
“I’m also a demon, after all. I won’t lose to weakling humans.”
“I-I see…”
“I’ll properly protect you at least, Milady.”
“Mhm, thanks.”
Alfra showed a faint, carefree smile.
―― I wonder if Felmar is stronger than me?
Takashiro, who came to the castle gates to see them off, explained their future journey plan.
„First, please head west of the snowfield, alongside the mountain range. You will be out in the forest in three days. This forest and the southern mountains are the territory of the werebeasts, but they regard Madam as their sworn ally you won’t be in danger.
“Got it.”
Alfra nodded with a calm expression.
‘As expected, it’s doubtful’, Takashiro thought.
He couldn’t exactly explain it, but the moment Alfra took this situation with the same attitude as usual, he felt that something was odd.
„As you go through the forest, you will bump into a river. Please go south along the river and enter the kingdom of humans.”
Takashiro handed the rolled parchment to Felmar. It was a map of the Midwest of the continent.
“After that, use a carriage and go west on the main road. It would be better if you accompanied peddlers.
“Leave that part to me.”
Felmar pounded on her chest.
“Felmar, I want to ask you a favor.”
“Hm, what is it?”
Takashiro straightened up and bowed deeply to Felmar.
“Keep serving Milady like this from now on too.”
“Wha…”
“I know that you want to return to your hometown. Please depart from that idea.”
“No but, even if you tell me that…”
“It will be 60 to 70 years at the longest, that’s a short time for demons, isn’t it? Won’t you please serve milady?”
“…Well, I don’t hate milady either, but serving a human is still, you know…”
“Then how about until milady finds a good spouse and stops worrying about living in a human town?”
“That’s…”
“With milady’s looks, she won’t have a problem with finding suitors.”
Takashiro was indeed somewhat of a doting grandfather, but Felmar inwardly agreed that Alfra indeed had good looks.
“I’m begging you!”
Takashiro dropped to his knees and placed his fists on the floor.
“H-hey! Stop it, I’m telling you!”
Felmar reached out to stop him way faster than Takashiro managed to bow his head.
With a timing that indicated that he had been waiting for it, Takashiro put a drawstring pouch on her extended hand.
it was the same pouch that he gave Alfra earlier.
“Huh…?!”
“It’ll amount to a fortune.”
Felmar dropped her gaze on that heavy pouch.
“…Well, it’s not like I have a family waiting for me back home…”
Felmar murmured while peeking inside the pouch.
“Now that you’ve said so much, it can’t be helped. Leave it to me!”
Being the capable man Takashiro was, he instantly entranced Felmar to get rid of his own worries.
Takashiro watched Alfra and Felmar walk west through the snowfield until they were no longer in sight.
In order to shake off the dark clouds of uncertainty that were lingering in his mind and to catch up to Byakuren and Senka which went ahead, he rushed to the east.
Despite wearing butler uniform and leather shoes, the figure of Takashiro running through the snowfield was like a black arrow.
If he crossed the southern mountain and passed through the forest at its foot, he would reach the main road. Although it would make his path shorter, the chance of being dragged into a battle would also rise, so Takashiro opted out of using that route.
Even after taking a big detour around the main road and running through the snowfield which had a bad footing, Takashiro looked absentminded.
His worries about Alfra still hadn’t disappeared.
―― Should I turn back?
He asked himself but no answer came back.
―― At least until she gets closer to the human village…
However, Byakuren and Senka travelled fast. He didn’t have enough time to turn back.
He was ordered to follow after Byakuren as soon as he saw Alfra and Felmar off. It was Takashiro’s pride as a butler to faithfully carry out his duties.
No matter how much he wanted to turn back and accompany Alfra, that option didn’t exist for Takashiro.
It wasn’t perfect but he had done what he could.
Felmar would be there to take care of her until some future prospects appeared for Alfra.
During their short interaction, Takashiro understood that Felmar was a trustworthy woman. She was good at taking care of people and had a strong sense of responsibility.
She’d do the rest…probably.
However, that uneasy feeling still didn’t disappear.
Telling him that something irreversible was on the verge of happening.
Alfra and Felmar walked through the desolate snowfield. Proceeding to the west.
“Hey, Felmar, do you know anything about the village I used to live in?”
“Yes, I know. I’ve been there for shopping a few times.
Felmar walked lightly on the snow, making rhythmical crunching sounds. She was a pretty good walker.
Alfra once again asked Felmar, who was walking in front.
“I wonder if that part will become a battlefield again if the war starts?
“Probably it will.”
“Do you think many demons will come along with Orcs too?”
“I’ve heard that it’s going to be a pretty big war this time. Even those with court ranks might end up coming.”
The corners of Alfra’s mouth rose in response to those words.
“By the way, it seems that the area where the village used to be has become a stronghold of humans now.”
“Hmm. The village is over the mountains, past the forest, and on the main road, right?”
“That’s right.”
Alfra, who was looking at Felmar’s back, seemed very happy.
“By the way, Takashiro went east, right?
“According to what I’ve heard, yes.”
“We’re at the west so we’re on the total opposite sides of the road.”“Yes, that’s right.”
“If you went after Takashiro right now, would you be able to catch up to him, Felmar?”
“It would be impossible with my legs. It’s already getting dark and he must’ve progressed quite…”
It was idle chatter with the only purpose of fending off boredom along the way, but Felmar felt something disquieting.
“…Why are you asking something like that――?!”
Hearing high-pitched sound of the sheath from behind her, Felmar hurriedly turned around.
“This is a goodbye, Felmar.”
Alfra was smiling with an unsheathed rapier in her hand. Its tip dangling over the ground.
“Milady…?”
“You go ahead, Ferlmar. I’ll cross the mountains.”
“What are you…?”
A confused gaze turned towards Alfra.
“I just have to go through the forest and east along the main road, right?”
“What are you talking about?! If you go east, you’ll end up on a battlefi-“
“Then that’s fine.”
“…What…do you mean?
Anger was burning in her mahogany-colored eyes.
Felmar cautiously took distance from the overwhelming presence overflowing from Alfra.
“I’m going to kill all the demons.”
Madness oozing from Alfra’s eyes was mingled with anger.
“…Mi…lady?”
Felmar took another step back.
“But Byakuren, Takashiro and Felmar are different. I love you, so I won’t kill you, Felmar.”
“W-what are you saying?!”
“It’s fine, just go. Alone.”
Alfra raised her right hand, that was holding the rapier, and pointed to the west.
“There’s no way I could do that! Takashiro entrusted you to me!”
“I know, sorry, but I’ve already decided. I can’t go with you.”
“…Then I’ll take you with me even if I have to tie you up! Naughty girls should be punished!”
Felmar lowered her waist and put her hand on the hilt of her sword.
“Don’t pull it out. If you do, I’ll kill you.”
Felmar’s face flushed and her expression distorted into anger.
“…You might be my milady, but no demon will take that kind of cocky words from a mere human!”
“Please, Felmar. I love you, so I don’t pull it out.”
“…”
Seeing Alfra look at her so sadly, Felmar stopped pulling out her sword halfway through.
“That’s why, let’s stop? I’m definitely stronger.”
That last sentence made Felmar move her hand.
A demon, who put power over everything, was told by a human lass that she was weaker than her.
“――?!”
Felmar, who tried to unleash her sword in one breath was astounded.
She should’ve put enough distance between them.
Even though they were standing on a snow that had bad footing, Alfra’s face was before her even faster than Felmar pulled out her sword.
She had heard from Takashiro that Alfra was an excellent student. Especially that she had an extraordinary explosive power.
However ―――― her speed when stepping in was abnormal!
“Kuh!”
Felmar jumped backwards with a single leap.
Making a whistling sound, the drawn sword went past her, right by her eyes.
She didn’t feel like she evaded it.
Had Alfra missed on purpose? Felmar thought,
Pulling out her sword, she took a stance and said to Alfra.
“Milady, you won’t be able to drive me away with those kinds of threats. Now that I’ve pulled out my sword, you have to come at me with a killing-“
“Ah, what a waste…”
Alfra muttered, looking at Felmar’s feet.
Following her gaze, Felmar also looked down.
The snow at her feet was dyed in red.
Like a flower blooming, the crimson color gradually grew in size.
It was sucking up the nutrients…from Felmar’s hand that was rolling in the center of its petals.
“Wha—?”
Felmar looked at her own arm that was supposed to be holding a sword.
Instead, she saw a bright peach-colored cross-section, the tip of which had disappeared from the elbow.
Thing that was supposed to be here was rolling on the ground, still holding the sword.
That attack from before didn’t miss but was instead aiming for her arm since the start.
The moment Felmar realized this, everything was already too late.
Felmar was wearing rather thick, long gloves. They were sturdy, made from tanned leather.
She looked at the rapier that easily cut off her arm. It was a sharp edged, mana-coated sword that Byakuren gave to Alfra.
Not only did the girl in front of her have high skills, even her weapon of choice was first-class.
“Tsk!”
That was when her demon instincts finally started to work.
Telling her that the lass in front of her was stronger than herself.
The moment she turned on her heels and stepped forward to escape, she felt a light impact on her back.
“Ah…”
Mana-coated blade sprouted from her left chest.
It was the last sight Felmar saw in her life.
Soft powdered snow was falling on windless snowfield.
Alfra was crouching, tears trickling down her face.
She didn’t want to kill her.
Felmar was kind.
She would often take care of Alfra.
She would give her sweets.
Yes, it was only a little while back that she had eaten the cookies Felmar baked.
“Sorry, felmar”
Alfra cried out loud.
She cried while sucking blood.
She sucked blood full of power from the arm that had baked sweet and delicious cookies.
“Sorry, sorry…”
Blood had an emetic effect. Ingesting more than a certain amount would cause severe nausea.
In addition, due to its high salinity, it caused a person to feel thirsty.
“Sorry, but you’re all mine, Felmar. Sorry.”
Alfra would suck blood and purge it, get thirsty and eat snow to sate herself.
And once again she would suck blood and purge it.
That unendurable behavior was far from sanity.
“Now we’ll always be together, Felmar.”
Gentle madness surrounded Alfra.
Alfra had made Felmar all hers.
The last day of the year was also Alfra’s birthday.
She had turned 15 years old.

Notes:
And this concludes the first arc of the story. Unfortunately it had to end with a sacrifice but such is life.
Next volume is called “desire” and has 22 chapters. Plus, there won’t be any cute lesbian interactions from now on for a long time so you might as well just start thinking of this as a regular adventure story.
There *are* going to be mistranslations in this chapter so if you understand japanese don’t ne shy and point out all mistakes. Same with typos and awkward grammar btw.
Hmm, wonder if anybody caught that Alfra got Felmar from the left side of her armor like she was taught by Takashiro…
