Chapter 49

"Brother Peng, you're really pushing the limits!" Mai Xiaoyu took a sip of alcohol to calm his nerves.

He knew that "Ten Years" was a good song with high popularity, but sweeping the charts of six major music websites... wasn't that a bit exaggerated?

Su Youpeng refilled his glass, "You, not caring about your own work, drink a penalty shot!"

No problem, even three penalty shots!

Mai Xiaoyu raised his glass, drank it all in one go, and then ate a few slices of hotpot lamb to calm the alcohol, sighing, "I was too busy this afternoon, no time to pay attention to the chart changes."

Su Youpeng was also very busy, but he had a company, a manager, and an assistant all keeping an eye on the rankings of "Ten Years."

This time, "Ten Years" managed to break through the fierce competition among the top stars, thanks to both the quality of the song and Su Youpeng's own influence.

In early April, the TV series "Deep Affection in the Rain" starring Su Youpeng premiered on CCTV-8 at 9 PM, with ratings almost matching "My Fair Princess," setting a new high for the year.

The media's renewed interest in the rumors between him, Zhao Wei, and Lin Xinru was enough to prove his current popularity.

First broadcast, second round, third round... By summer, many local TV stations' summer theaters, those without money, played "Journey to the West" and "My Fair Princess," while those with money played "Deep Affection in the Rain" first, followed by "My Fair Princess."

At this critical moment, Su Youpeng released a single, and "Ten Years" was a good song. The combination of the person and the song attracted a large number of non-fan supporters, making it a super dark horse.

When good wine meets a true friend, a thousand cups are not enough. The two chatted and drank, and soon Su Youpeng, feeling the alcohol, chewed on cooked cabbage and said, "I'm planning to release a new album, and the company is collecting songs. Write two more songs, and I'll guarantee you a satisfactory price to make up for this loss. I'm sorry for putting you through this."

"Cough, Brother Peng, you're being too formal. I said the song was a gift, thank you for taking care of Liu Tao. Talking about money ruins the friendship."

"Alright, I said the wrong thing, I'll take the penalty." Su Youpeng finished his glass and burped, "Then write two more songs. I'll tell the company, ten thousand per song, and we'll negotiate the ringtone rights."

Old Su is a straightforward person, really nice.

This time, he owes him a favor, and he'll find a chance to repay him.

With a decision made, Mai Xiaoyu sighed again, "No time, I've been so busy lately."

Su Youpeng, hearing Mai Xiaoyu say this for the second time, asked, "What are you so busy with?"

"Remember Liu Tao? She's the only signed artist in our company. I'm planning to help her get a TV drama role, and I'm contacting various production teams."

"Ah, I have an opportunity here."

Su Youpeng had just signed on to play Zhang Wuji in "The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber." The production team planned to start filming next year, and they were currently in the pre-production stage, with actor auditions and contract signings scheduled soon.

This novel by Mr. Jin has been adapted into TV series multiple times, with many memorable characters. If Mai Xiaoyu agrees, Su Youpeng can recommend Liu Tao for an audition.

As the lead, he has the star power. With his recommendation, as long as Mai Xiaoyu isn't too greedy and Liu Tao's acting isn't too bad, it shouldn't be a problem.

This is definitely a good opportunity. The classic status of "The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber" is undeniable, and the biggest issue is which role Liu Tao should audition for.

It seems that Old Su also starred in "The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber" in my dream. I'll refer to it and help Liu Tao choose a suitable role as soon as possible.

Also, I need to hire a performance teacher from Yan Film to give Liu Tao private lessons.

"Thank you, Brother Peng, I'll toast to you again."

"Don't be so formal. I'm just letting you know in advance so you can prepare. You'll receive the audition information when the production team starts the process."

That's not how it works. As a complete newcomer, Liu Tao would have a significant difference with or without Su Youpeng's recommendation.

Moreover, Su Youpeng's early notice gives Mai Xiaoyu enough time to prepare.

Plan before you act, and when you act, hit the target!

"Xiao Mai, there's another opportunity, maybe even better..."

Before he could finish, Xiao Song suddenly shouted excitedly, "Brother Peng, first place, all first places!"

Su Youpeng glared at him, "What first place, don't be so dramatic."

"‘Ten Years,’ Brother Peng, your ‘Ten Years’ is number one on all six music websites, all of them!" Xiao Song pointed at the laptop, speaking incoherently with excitement.

"What? Let me see!"

Su Youpeng couldn't remain calm, pushing the bowls and plates aside, he pulled the laptop over and widened his eyes, clicking through the pages of the six music websites. "Ten Years" was at the top, with the new songs of the five top stars ranking second to sixth, all behind him!

Before he could look further, Xiao Song's phone rang—it was Su Youpeng's phone!

The caller was Su Youpeng's agent, asking where he was and urging him to return quickly for an important meeting.

"Ten Years" had been released for less than 24 hours and had swept the charts of the six major music websites, ranking first, while the five top stars' songs were relegated to the background.

This major event would undoubtedly make the headlines of many media entertainment sections tomorrow. He had to return and discuss with his agent and contact the company to plan the future promotional work. In fact, many media outlets had already contacted his agent through various means, wanting to interview him.

His Weibo was almost flooded with congratulatory messages from fans; many friends in the industry also sent their congratulations, praising him for sweeping the top spots on the six music websites; the topic of him and "Ten Years" was skyrocketing, with discussions everywhere online.

"Xiao Mai, my agent is urging me to go back. We can only eat up to here." Su Youpeng said, unable to hide his excitement.

Stars are also human, and they can't avoid the俗 (common) desire to be number one in the rankings.

Since the dissolution of Little Tigers, this was his return to the peak of the music industry, all because of "Ten Years."

Thinking about it, the first dissolution of Little Tigers at the end of 1991, and now, it's exactly ten years. Could this be fate?

"Xiao Mai, I'm really sorry tonight, it happened suddenly and I didn't expect it... Another day, we'll find a time, just the two of us, until we're both drunk!"

"Congratulations, Brother Peng, no need to explain, I understand, we're friends."

"Right, right, we're friends."

Mask, hat, sunglasses... fully equipped, Su Youpeng took a few steps and then turned back, quickly saying, "I didn't finish what I was saying earlier. Ms. Qiong Yao is preparing to shoot ‘My Fair Princess 3: Heaven and Earth.’ I'll contact her in the next couple of days to see if I can help you get an audition opportunity..."

Mai Xiaoyu was also excited, "I heard the casting for ‘Heaven and Earth’ has already entered the second round of auditions. Is it still possible to join?"

"I'll try my best, it should be fine."
