Lin Yi sneered slightly. Forget dogs, he had killed many wolves with a single palm strike during missions in the deep mountains. A Rottweiler was nothing to him.
"See that? This is the mighty general. Let me tell you, he's very powerful. If you dare to go upstairs, I'll have him bite you to death!" Chu Mengyao threatened.
"Understood." Lin Yi nodded.
Seeing Lin Yi's cautious demeanor, Chu Mengyao thought he was afraid of the mighty general. She felt even more smug and, pulling Chen Yushu, ran upstairs, leaving the mighty general to guard the staircase.
Lin Yi picked up his luggage, glared at the mighty general, who shuddered and retreated. It seemed the dog sensed that the person in front of him was not ordinary and was dangerous.
Lin Yi had no time to play with a dog. After glaring at it, he ignored it and carried his luggage to the room Chu Mengyao had mentioned.
The room was simply furnished, with only a bed, a desk, and a small wardrobe. However, these were enough for Lin Yi. He had only brought a few old clothes, nothing else. What surprised Lin Yi the most was that the room had its own bathroom, just like a luxury hotel!
Lin Yi put his luggage down and took a towel to the bathroom. The journey had left him covered in dust.
He checked his watch; it was not yet six o'clock. Before Uncle Fu came to deliver dinner, Lin Yi planned to take a shower.
So far, Lin Yi was quite satisfied with his current job and work environment. Living in a hotel-like setting and earning 30,000 yuan, where else could he find such a job? It was much more comfortable than helping the old man make straw shoes at home.
...
"Xiao Shu, I'm starting to regret it. Lin Yi doesn't look like someone who can be my shield at all," Chu Mengyao complained to Chen Yushu, changing into a set of loungewear.
"I think he's fine," Chen Yushu said, lying on the bed with her legs inverted against the wall. She had read somewhere that this could slim her legs and promote growth.
"What's fine about him? I was thinking of finding someone handsome to pretend to be my boyfriend. Now, look what we have—a bumpkin who will be laughed at if we take him out!" Chu Mengyao gritted her teeth. "If you think he's good, you can be his girlfriend."
"I don't have any trouble, so I don't need a shield. Otherwise, I might have considered it," Chen Yushu said, shaking her head.
"You have a brother who is a military officer; who would dare to bother you? If I had a brother who could kick a tree in half, I wouldn't need a shield either!" Chu Mengyao knew Chen Yushu was deliberately annoying her, but what could she do? Chen Yushu had a brother, and she didn't.
"Yao Yao, how about I ask my brother to find you a god-brother in the military?" Chen Yushu blinked. "Or a love-brother... wouldn't Zhong Pinliang obediently step aside then?"
"Xiao Shu!" Chu Mengyao was furious at Chen Yushu's increasingly absurd suggestions. "What kind of bad ideas are these! You suggested my father find me a shield, and look who we got? Can he even be a shield? Now you're suggesting such ridiculous ideas, even a love-brother? How disgusting!"
"Okay, okay, I won't say anything more." Chen Yushu saw that Chu Mengyao was really angry and quickly shut up. Indeed, the idea of finding a shield was hers, and now that the person didn't meet expectations, she had some responsibility...
When Uncle Fu came to deliver dinner, Lin Yi had just finished his shower. He rummaged through his luggage but found no decent clothes. Lin Yi couldn't help but complain that the old man was too stingy and couldn't even buy him a new set of clothes.
He estimated that if he wore these clothes, Chu Mengyao would still think they were dirty and wouldn't let him sit on the sofa. With no choice, Lin Yi opened the bag Uncle Fu had given him and put on the school uniform of City No. 1 High School.
Lin Yi's new look made Chu Mengyao and Chen Yushu stare in surprise! Previously, he was unkempt, wearing a tattered tank top and shorts. Now, after a shower, he looked neat and tidy, and the school uniform made him look completely different from his previous migrant worker image!
However, the first impression of Lin Yi was too bad, so Chu Mengyao refused to admit that he was handsome. She could only say he was a bit more presentable than before.
Uncle Fu brought four dishes and a soup: fish-flavored shredded pork, boiled fish, stir-fried Chinese cabbage, and stir-fried spinach with black fungus. The soup was mushroom soup.
The dishes were well-balanced, with a mix of meat and vegetables, and were both visually and aromatically appealing. Lin Yi hadn't eaten such delicious food in a long time. Seeing that Uncle Fu had prepared a bowl of rice for him, he happily took it and sat at the table.
Just as Lin Yi was about to start eating, Chu Mengyao objected, "What are you doing? Xiao Shu and I haven't eaten yet, and you're eating first? From now on, Xiao Shu and I will eat first, and you can eat the leftovers!"
Saying this, she turned and went to the kitchen. She had a habit of using silver cutlery, a habit she had developed living with her grandfather. So, in the kitchen's sterilizer, there was a set of silver cutlery specifically for Chu Mengyao.
Lin Yi could only smile bitterly at Chu Mengyao's domineering attitude, put down his chopsticks, and could only drool at the sight of the delicious food. Fortunately, the rice was his, and he quickly scooped a few mouthfuls. Perhaps because he ate too quickly, he choked and mumbled, "Is there anything to drink?"
Chen Yushu found it amusing to see this man who seemed to have not eaten for eight generations and pointed to the nearby refrigerator, saying, "Get whatever you want to drink."
"Oh." Lin Yi turned and saw a large refrigerator filled with various drinks. He took a bottle of orange juice, opened it, and took a big sip, feeling much better.
Chu Mengyao returned with her cutlery and, along with Chen Yushu, began to comment on the dishes.
"Wow, boiled fish! I love it!"
"This fish-flavored shredded pork is a bit too sweet. Damn chef, doesn't he know that too much sugar can make you fat? I'll have Dad fire him!"
"En, this Chinese cabbage is quite good. Xiao Shu, try it!"
Chu Mengyao chatted as she ate. These dishes were prepared by the chefs from the Pengzhan Group, which was owned by Chu Pengzhan, and Uncle Fu delivered them every evening.
Chu Pengzhan had many social engagements, and Chu Mengyao's mother had left home when she was very young. Chu Mengyao didn't know the exact reason, as her father never told her whenever she asked.
So, Chu Mengyao's life was mostly taken care of by Uncle Fu.
